The Conservative Thread: Back to Basics. Pass the Lasagna and Have a Flower!!

One thing I have always found maddening about McCain is the fact that he is more interested in being the dear friend of the opposition than throwing down the gauntlet and fighting. And as y'all say, there's a difference between being nasty and playing dirty and actually fighting fire with fire. There is no excuse for McCain not slamming Obama and the Dems on the Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae issues, among others. Each time he'd start on an issue, I always got the feeling he found it very unseemly. Unfortunately McCain is more likely to stab a Republican in the back than blast a Democrat on policy. If you followed the Republican primaries closely, you'd have seen the absolute contempt he held for Mitt Romney. He was far nastier and gloves-off to him than he ever was to Obama.

i totally agree!!
it really annoyed me..
and who knows what the outcome might have been...

but i was never big on mccain...
now palin...that's another story.....and i'm sure she'll be back, which i consider to be a very good thing!!....

That's why I said good, long, hard look instead of ignore completely. :goodvibes
If he's a great conservative and the libs like him and he runs we'll stand a very good chance of getting control back in 2012.
And if they don't like our candidate, we're still taking it back in 2012. :rotfl:

Long hard looks are definitely needed at all GOP candidates. I was just trying to reassure you he's not a closet liberal or a conservative with skeletons in the closet. :rotfl:

Assuming the comment was sincere (I'm taking it as such), that would be very interesting to see how the average leftie would react to Jindal. The main thing they could pick on him about now is his pro-life views. It'd be funny to see them try though because a common argument is cons or pro-lifers are stupid. Yeah, well, Jindal was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, among his many other accomplishments. It would be kinda funny to sit back and watch some people come unhinged trying to figure out exactly how they can go after him.

Do you have a trip report or review anywhere he on the DIS? If I might push this, I need to be armed with facts. And I know zip about the Poly, other than: I know the restaurants but have never eaten there; I looked in the gift shops there in May on our way out of town; and my dad went over there one morning and brought us back at WL the Tonga Toast from Captain Cook's. That Tonga Toast was so good... :worship:

I don't have a trip report but, I'm sure someone probably does.

The Poly is beautiful and very convenient. If you want a second choice....AKL. We stayed in the villas, for the first time, this year. They are a little out of the way but, very nice. We have stayed at the Poly, SOG, The Fairway Villas, THV, BWV, BCV, AKL and The Swan.

Blestmom...Thank you for this quote.:goodvibes I so want to use it in my siggie.:lmao:

"I don't know if anybody's asking Barack Obama, for instance, who did your makeup before you went on stage. But they've been asking me," Palin said.

I loved that one too. Kills me...
Ca taxs are 7.75% I thought :confused3
California is probably like Washington (and undoubtedly other places). You have a base rate, which here is somewhere around 8%, and then various counties and cities tack on extra. I think King County is pushing 10% these days, and the city of Tacoma is around 9%.

I tried to read the "mandatory volunteerism" thread and had so many things I wanted to reply to...and I had to just close the thread and walk away. Some people are never going to get that volunteering is a wonderful thing which WE should be teaching to our children, and that government mandating it is overstepping boundaries. :confused3 Besides, what the heck is the deal with if you don't want to earn the money don't take it? WHAT??? Helloooooo it is OUR MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE! Education is one of the things we are supposed to get out of that deal! Somehow our money became "the government's money" which they magnanimously bestow upon us and now has come around to well if you want us to generously share "our" money with you, then you are going to have to earn it from us. OUR MONEY. OUR MONEY!

Sigh. Sorry. Preaching to the choir.

They'll find something.
And I agree, long looks will be required. We know Palin will pass. So will Fred Thompson, from what I've seen, but still have to take another look as it's been awhile.
Now how about the rest of 'em?

I believe Soarin is starting Disney College in January. :thumbsup2

Gotta love our state, eh? Sigh. So disappointed Dino didn't win. Four more years of Dora the Explorer. Fun, fun, fun. :headache: :headache:

Our base tax rate is 7.8%. It goes up from there. I see our gas tax is working wonders too. I see road construction all over the place. :sad2:

I totally agree with you on the mandatory volunteerism thing. Grrrrrrrrr. I need a nightcap....

uh...is it Soarin08?

Not entirely sure.

Bobby Jindal is the gov of Louisiana, and turned around the mess of Katrina that the prev. governor made...well, her and Ray Nagin. Now Obama is toying with the idea of giving that (*#$@_#& mayor of New Orleans the job of spearheading FEMA! Seriously, my 5 yr old could manage FEMA better than that man.

Let's hand over millions and millions of dollars in relief funds to a man who was directly responsible for so many people being stuck in New Orleans during Katrina, causing so many to loose their lives, a man who let chaos reign in the aftermath of the storm, to the point where hundreds and hundreds of police and national guardsmen were required to impose martial law to keep the peace. Yep-he's great at managing things:scared1:

Thanks:thumbsup2 I was just posting with another poster who is also starting in January....

City of Tacoma is 8.8%. I was trying to see what Kitsap is, but everything I bought in Port Orchard today was non-taxable. And oh yes, on the gas tax. And the sin taxes. I actually deleted a whole 'nother paragraph from that post that was just ranting about that. Sin taxes for education. Apparently we don't sin enough in this state (yeah right) because my daughter was sharing textbooks with other classes her senior year, and they had a rotation on when they got to use them outside of class.

Our esteemed Governor, Dora the Explorer... :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

OK, for some reason the picture doesn't want to work so try this:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2008/11/01/PH2008110100559.html

Now, if that picture doesn't scare you, I don't know what will... :confused3 I was kind of creeped out by it.

You (and everyone here) might want to bookmark this site: http://blog.bobbyjindal.com/ Jindal posts a blog about once a week where he talks about what he did during the week, issues they're pursuing, legislation they're passing, meetings, etc. As Reagan said "Trust, but verify." But I think that blog site could help us all learn a lot about him in the months and years to come.

Gotta love our state, eh? Sigh. So disappointed Dino didn't win. Four more years of Dora the Explorer. Fun, fun, fun. :headache: :headache:

I have to ask... who is Dora the Explorer and who is Dino? I'm presuming that's not Dino of The Flintstones variety. :rotfl2:

I don't have a trip report but, I'm sure someone probably does.

Thanks, friend. I will peek around the resort thread in a minute and more tomorrow. If I have any questions, I'll let you know.

Naturally. They liked McCain because he was a thorn in our side, and most of them knew in their heart of hearts that if he got elected, they could stand him because he's a not-so-closet liberal on so many issues. It would just be funny to see the other side try to paint Jindal with the typical "He's an idiot!" routine like they do with all conservatives. Isn't going to work with him.

Can't see it for some reason. But that's probably just as well...:lmao:

I feel the serious need for a nightcap too, but I'm drinking ice water instead. I cruised through more than half a bottle of rum already this week. Rough week. :headache:

   :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

And of course don't forget the death tax. If we can't get it out of you while you're alive, don't worry, we'll get it out of you when you're dead...:woohoo:

Thanks, friend. I will peek around the resort thread in a minute and more tomorrow. If I have any questions, I'll let you know.

If your dad has been dreaming of the Poly for decades, then you should go for it..

if nothing else, you'll enjoy being in a monorail resort....it really makes it special..
and at the poly it's not only easy to get to the MK by monorail, to get to epcot, you can walk through the parking lot over to the TTC and hop on the direct epcot monorail there (avoiding have to change trains)..

i haven't stayed at the poly since 1984, but i enjoyed it at the time..

if you could possibly swing concierge, that would make it even better...
poly concierge gets outstanding reviews...the podcast team gave it multiple thumbs up!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

by the way, the rooms at the poly are much bigger than the rooms at the WL....
they're the size you would expect from a deluxe resort...

SD, I knew who she was talking about when she referred to Dora, but couldn't figure out WHY she was calling her Dora...until I followed Honu's link. And gee THANKS Honu. MY EYES!!!! Now I'm going to have nightmares tonight, and terrifying flashbacks every time my son watches Dora. :scared: And Dino, is Dino Rossi, the Rep candidate who lost to her this week.
