~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Cam - Thanks for the offer, but it's actually my dad that is getting married and we are staying in some hotel with other family.

Matt should have mentioned that the wedding is near Wilmington. Actually, it's in Claymont and I believe that is where our hotel is (although my sister can't seem to remember to send me the hotel confirmation information).

HMMM.....Mindy sounds none too-thrilled about this trip. Hang in, there, kay?

MIke, you and I are the same age and I say we ARE MUCH younger than Jeff.:thumbsup2

Off to the craft store and library today. It is "ant" week at our house. I ordered an ant farm, so we will be doing a little educational (I know Jodi, I suck) research and projects all about ants and communities.

A. Alright, you win. We are much younger than Jeff.

2. Research projects?!?! You ought to be ashamed. I'm half tempted to call Child Protective Services!

Dave - Well WISHes coming your way.

I actually looked into using a similar plan a while back, but then I realized that I hate cross training and would rather run instead. What are you planning on doing for cross training? Biking? Swimming? Slow easy running?
Hammer-Time - A couple days a week on the recumbant (sp?) bike at the gym and then some weights. I pedal like hell and call it a tempo workout.

Howard - Safe travels.

Cindy -- I'm sorry I didn't get back here yesterday. For some reason I didn't get a notification of your post. :confused3

Actually, you will be just a couple miles from us and there is a wonderful state park very close to where you will be -- Bellevue State Park. It has a 1 1/8 mile cinder track (used to be utilized to train harness race horses). The scenery is beautiful and there are restrooms and water fountains right at the track. I think it may cost $4 to get your vehicle into the park, but it is worth every penny. We see lots of beautiful wildlife there. And there is trail running off that course, as well.

Let me know if you want more information. Depending on if your hotel is where I think it is, you are maybe 3 miles from that state park. Very convenient.

Oh, and you will be very close to 2 places voted Best of Delaware for food -- Claymont Steaks and Primo Hoagies, each very close to your hotel. :)

:rotfl2: Cam - I misread your post. I thought it said the track was 1/8 of a mile. Matt is planning on running 18 miles, so I was dying at the thought of him running 144 laps:rotfl2: (and, yes, I used a calculator for that one!)

Luckily, I googled the park and realized that it is 1 and 1/8 and it looks very pretty. With the option of doing some trail running too, sounds perfect! Thanks so much for the info! Now, if my sister would just send me the hotel info, I could print out some directions.:headache:

Cam That sounds awesome. Running, water fountains, restrooms and good food all in one place. If I really end up running 18 miles, do you think I would be hungry enough to eat a steak and a hoagie?

Also 144 laps does sound crazy. I'm trying to think of what would be worse. Running 144 laps around a track or running 18 miles on a treadmill in the hotel with only John and Kate + 8 re-runs on the TV.

Hey Everyone: We're slowly getting better around here. Evie's temperature was just under 100 this morning (99.6) so she went to school. She really wanted to go because it's the next to last day, and they're having a hot dog roast (which parents come in for). So we went in for the hot dog roast, and heard the 7 kids in the class were out sick yesterday. This bug has been hitting the schools hard here, and evidently there was talk last week of just cancelling the rest of the school year. I guess they can't do that due to state rules though. I'm still feeling under the weather, but my cough has gone away. I just feel kind of draggin...

I went for a run yesterday, and struggled through 3 miles. My legs felt like lead, and when I was done you would have thought I did a 20 mile long run. It felt good to get some miles in. I'm going to try again today.

Matt -- YES!! Go for the cheesesteak AND the hoagie. The shops are right across the street from each other. Oh, and 16 laps doesn't sound too great to me, but you are worlds faster, so I'm sure it wouldn't bother you to be out there that long. Me? I'd be looking at a 1/2 day commitment. LOL!

Dave -- WISHing you and Evie a speedy recovery. pixiedust:

My God...there's been a lot of activity lately. Where have I been?

Dave - Sorry to hear about DD and the flu bug that's hitting your house. Man, there has been a lot of flu bugs making there way around. I can't remember this many illnesses in the summertime. Loved the blog by the way.

Colleen - Good start to the NYC training. Good luck with the ant research. I hate bugs. If I bought a research kit it would have to come with a big magnifying glass.

Cindy and Matt - Good luck with the wedding and 144 laps in DE. Claymont? You'll be right down the road from Philly. We should do a run along the river this weekend. We'll run and I'll buy you guys breakfast to recover from your hangovers. Let me know if you are up for it...seriously.

Howard - Good to see you back on the 5K circuit. Maybe you could grab Matt and Cindy in DE and come to the Art Museum for the run this weekend? I'm actually golfing on Friday for the first time in 2 years. May have to play a round with you soon.

Mike - I think you were the one who told me about the Back on My Feet Article in Runner's World. I found the February edition, sitting in the plastic wrapper, in a massive pile in my inbox. The article was pretty good. I actually met one of the guys yesterday. Wish I would have read it before I met them/him.

Jodi - What's up with the feet? I thought they were good to go after the last doctor's appt. You should think about running the LBI 18-miler in October. Good training run for NYC and not terribly far from you.

Chester - I have a cousin who lives in FL that happens to be in Bradenton this week for work. Told him I actually know a guy who lives in Bradenton. By the way...Happy 25th to you and Tracy! That's quite an accomplishment. I hope I make it to 25 before Nicole kills me. :lmao:

Hey Sara, Jen, Megan, CindyLou and everyone!

Ran 12 on Sunday in the rain (getting used to it) at 9:01 mpm pace. Ran 5.5 today at 8:29 mpm pace. Getting a little psyched about NYC. Kind of nice to finally have something to train for over the summer.

Lou

Hi everyone! I finally made it to my karate class for the first time since... oh, maybe September. I went when one specific instructor was there. The first one I ever worked out with. It was great. My quads were sore before we were done with the warm up. I'm going to stretch a little bit more before bed to help wth that.

I got lucky that they set me up with a Master instructor when I was working on my forms. I had to be walked through the forms, but I started with my highest form and worked my way down. I stayed after to practice them a few more times. I think I will be back up to speed quickly as long as I can make it to at least one class per week. Keep you fingers crossed for me!

Matt & Cindy~

I would highly recomment Bellevue State Park and the Northern Delaware Greenway. In my previous training plans (last fall) incorporated runs around the 1 and 1/8 mile track and the Northern Delaware Greenway which loops from the Philadelphia Pike area (Route 13) to Bellevue State Park and then down to Rockwood Park/Mansion. It is a paved trail, heavily canopied by trees in many areas. A LR is a definite possibility there. I hope you enjoy it. I'll be home on Friday night very late and probably not up for a run on Saturday but I'd love to stop to see you guys and say hello.

Howard

Send your cousin by my office and I'll take him out to lunch.

Thanks for the congrats on the anniversary. We didn't didn't know whether we should celebrate our anniversary or Howards birthday, so we decided to catch the Rays vs. the Phillies Tuesday night. Too bad the Rays didn't show up. 6 runs given up in the 1st inning. Arrrgh!

Best wishes and happy running to all the Bots,

Chester

Hi Bots. I've been MIA for a few days because I am super crazy busy at work. Like working til 2 am and then getting up at 5:30 am to go back to work busy.

Lou, Howard, and Cam - I would love to be able to see you all since I will be up in your neck of the woods, but I'm guessing it likely isn't going to be possible. For starters, I don't even know what time any of this weekends events are expcept for the wedding which is at 2 tomorrow. Actually, I don't even know the location of the dinner tonight. And I know there is a brunch on Sunday but I don't know where, when, or if I am supposed to look nice.:headache: I'm not exactly pleased with my dad's lack of ability to communicate details.

Anyway....

I also am likely going to have to give up running this weekend so that I can spend all of my free time in the hotel working on this document that I have to get done for work.

So that's enough out of me.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Mine should be interesting, if nothing else.

Oh, you poor thing! Cindy, hoping the weekend is more fun and less work than you currently anticipate.
