~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Hi BOTS!

I had the best of intentions to run today but came down with a heinous cold (and all the accessories) overnight. I feel lousy! Today i took meds and pushed fluids.

I will see how I feel tomorrow night and run in the evening if I can. I have to pick Cam up at the airport around 6 PM tomorrow.

Have a wonderful week!

:grouphug:

Hey Everyone: I got a run in on Saturday - nothing major, just 6 miles.

Chester- How was the EEC?

Mike- Good job on the 20 miler. Wow, it seems like a long time ago since I've done one of those.

17.3 miles this morning (and afternoon), it felt like I was out there ALL day. Time was 3:42, kind of disappointing considering I could have easily ran 18 in 3 hours a few years ago.:sad2:

Yay Mike Yay Mike. Don't worry, Mike, you'll be fine. :rolleyes1. what a girl.
Hey Now!! Don't give ME any of your attitude. This is all Ms. Theta! I'm manly enough to understand that sometimes it's just no bueno and the best you can hope for is not to crap in you pants!

Colleen - Three cheers for you!! Yeah, yeah, your next 20 will be better...:rolleyes1:rolleyes:

No, really. Great job knocking out the miles. Sorry it was such a long haul, but it must feel good to have them done. How do you feel?

Chester - Did you get rained out? I'm very interested to hear how your race went.

I finally caught up after not being on here for a week and a half.

Lou – Congrats on an awesome PR at the PDR! I hope your arm is healing.

Howard – I’m very impressed with your PDR time! I hope your knee is feeling better and I hope that you hear good news on the job front!

Jen
– Congrats on your PR at the PDR!

Mike – Don’t worry about a crappy (pun intended) 20 miler. Sounds like you’ve put in the miles over the past few weeks.

Colleen – I’m sorry that your run left you feeling disappointed. How are you feeling now? You asked about my training – see below.

Jodi – Glad to hear you had a good run.

Dave – I’m sorry that we won’t get to see you for ToT. I hope you are able to get something worked out for the Goofy.

Chester – I’m sorry to hear about Tracy’s mom – I will keep your family in my thoughts. I heard about some of the drama from Expedition Everest and am interested to hear how your experience was.

I've had some major LTO lately that has prevented me from running for over a week and a half. I did manage a measly 8 miles (with some walking) on Sunday and 4 today so I am getting back out there. I’m feeling really unprepared (and, honestly, unmotivated) for the Richmond Marathon. The emails I’ve gotten from them state that I should be able to switch to the half at the expo, so I am seriously considering doing that.

Matt, however, is prepared for Baltimore next weekend and decided today to go ahead and register for the full in Richmond.

I’m running the Army Ten Miler this weekend. Glad its only 10 miles. I won’t be surprised if it is a personal worst.

Cindy, I was feeling the same way, but yesterday, I was able to find a few marathon videos on youtube and it motivated me to head out the door for my LR. I am really glad I put the steps in and it also made me determined to get a 19 or 20 miler in before NYC (because it was tough). I felt pretty sore after the 17 miles but I jumped on the bike at the Y and rode 30 minutes while the kids were at swim team practice. The first 10 minutes hurt, but the last 20 minutes were more fatigue than hurt.:thumbsup2 Today I feel REALLY good!:banana:

Sounds like Matt's training is coming along. I am glad he is going to sign up for the Full! Good luck with your decision.

Chester, great pics on FB!

Colleen - I'm glad that you are feeling good today:thumbsup2 and I like your idea of watching marathon videos for motivation - I'll have to try that.

Colleen, good for you for getting the 17+ miles in there. I couldn't even imagine running that far right now. I think you did fantastic.

Hey Cindy, sorry you're having a rough time right now. Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help out. Best of luck to Matt in Baltimore, and best of luck to you in your decision about switching to the half for Richmond.

As far as my training goes, I'm still having pain/irritation in my shin. I don't know what's up with it. I know I could go to a doctor, but they won't know what's going on either. I have no faith in them. I think I just need to take it easy and rest it. I ran 6 miles on Saturday in 55 min. I can get through the miles if I load up on alleve and ice afterwards, but that doesn't seem like the best of ideas. I think I'm going to try to rest it all week, cross train, and try to run again on Sunday. We'll see how it goes.

Hello to everyone!!! :wave2:

Hey everyone!

Cindy - SO nice to see you back - what the heck has kept you SO busy?? You haven't been on FB either. I wasn't worried....just a little concerned.:sad2: With the running thing, don't sweat it (like you were expecting anything else from me, ;)). But seriously, this whole running thing is supposed to be fun & we have highs & lows. Heck, my 16 the other day was the longest I've run since Philly!!! :lmao: How pathetic is THAT? I would have loved to run a marathon or 2 over the year that has passed, but my heart just wasn't in it. If you're not prepared for Richmond, do the 1/2. No sense injuring yourself trying to get ready...gotta save up that bod for GOOFY!

Colleen - :hug:Glad you got that 17 out of the way, but sorry it seemed like an exodus. VERRRRY excited to hear that you are feeling great today!!!:yay::woohoo:. Because that's what it's all about, right? Staying healthy...good for you!

Mike - Just bustin' your Planter's. Like Stella, I really do hope that you get your groove on & find a routine that works for you & keeps your skivies white & bright. See how this Towtruck marathon goes & adjust your training from there. Could it be that you're overtraining, like ME?:rolleyes1

WavyGravyDavey - OK, when's the last time you've gotten a massage? Seriously, will no one on this freakin' board listen to me? Get massages, people!! If you don't want little voodoo needles sticking out of you I can understand, but have someone rub you down already! You'll find most Chiropractor's offices do this crap now & sometimes you can sneak it in through your insurance! Howard - needs a massage, too, but he won't listen.

Howard - Is there green stuff still running out of your nose (the makings of heinous snot rockets), or did you get to run? All ready for Ridgefield?

I was supposed to run yesterday a.m. but walked instead - running didn't feel right. My heel is pretty dang sore today...it just comes & goes will nilly. I'm supposed to run in the a.m., so I'll take some advil b4 bedtime, that usually helps. The weather's getting nice & cool, so no excuses!:scared1: I just realized today that I don't really crosstrain like I'm supposed to???!!!:confused3

Spencer officially started training with the MFM run/walk a 1/2 marathon plan yesterday :dance3::love:. I hope he hangs in there. His legs, from the knees down, are constructually-speaking, a mess! Gotta love those pigeon-toed, flat-footed genes I passed on!:cutie:

Howard - Is there green stuff still running out of your nose (the makings of heinous snot rockets), or did you get to run? All ready for Ridgefield?

Jodi~ I ran tonight, my first run since September 20's PDR. I am feeling about 89.6% over my cold. The run helped my system expell some of the heinous stuff (if you get my drift). I still have a little sinus congestion. I took Liquid Nyquil tablets the past two nights and have been taking Tylenol Sinus-Congestion Daytime during the last two mornings. I hate taking meds. I'd rather not. Here is my effort tonight:

Miles: 6.0
Time:1:00:25
Pace: 10:04
Splits: 12:12, 11:50, 9:01, 8:58, 9:09, and 9:14

The first mile I ran about .5 and then stretched out the knee and walked the rest of the first mile and into the second (to get up a hill), I ran from there on. The knee felt tweaked within 20 yards when I started, but it loosened up as I went along. I need to do some of the stretches the Doctor ordered. I am a bad patient.

As far as the Ridgefield Half, I am as ready as I'm going to be. I am using the PDR, the Ridgefield Half and the Race for the Taste 10K as training runs for MCM. I am taking November and December off and training for the Disney MARATHON!!! (only this time).

Cindy~ Welcome back! Take care of yourself and don't over do it with a marathon if you aren't ready.

Dave~ Take Care of that leg/shin thingy. I think Jodi is offering to give us a massage. :woohoo::thumbsup2

Hi to everyone else!!!!

:grouphug:

Howard

Hey Jodi, you coming to the Ridgefield Half? Cam and I will be scream teaming Howard and Charlie. (OK really we'll be sending them of then going to get breakfast while they're gone. :rolleyes1)

Hello Bots,

I guess it's a while since I've posted. Always so busy.

Judy: Have fun screaming in Ridgefield. I was thinking of heading down for the day because my DH's cousin is running too, but my son has CCD in the morning and I couldn't get there in time. This cousin is a different one than the one you met at the Bigelow. Good luck to Charlie.

Howard: Do your stretches!! Good luck to you in Ridgefield. I'm glad the interview went well for you. How long until you find out if you get the job?

Jodi: Sorry the heel is acting up. I hope you were able to get your run in this morning. The weather has gotten nice and cool. Great running weather! How awesome that Spencer is starting to train. Good luck to him.

Dave: Sorry to hear about your continued problem with your shins. I hope it gets better soon. I'm assuming you've tried running on softer surfaces, have new shoes, stretch a lot before hand? Wish I had something helpful.

Cindy: Sorry that life is getting in the way of your running. Don't pressure yourself to do a race you're not prepared for. You won't enjoy it, so what's the point? Good luck with your race this weekend.

Colleen: Great job getting 17.3 accomplished. That is a serious number of miles and you shouldn't be disappointed. You'll get some of your speed back once you've had time to train consistently. If not for this race then for the next one. Keep at it. What a great way to motivate yourself by watching Youtube videos.

Mike: Glad you got the 20 done, sorry it wasn't pleasant. It was very sweet of Kathy to come looking for you. I guess she likes you.

Chester: I hope you've made it back safely from WDW.

On Monday I ran my last LR before Baystate Marathon. I did 20. It was a relatively good run. The last 2 miles were a struggle, but I was never miserable. I think I'm starting to come down with a cold now. That's my general pattern, run a 20 miler, get sick for 2 weeks, go into the race barely recovered. I've been taking Cold-eeze and echinechea. Hopefully I can keep it at bay.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

2009 Expedition Everest Challenge Race Report

The start of the race was divided up into 13 +/- waves. I'm not exactly sure how the waves were categorized, but like last year the first waves were for the single runners. The first wave started promptly at 7:30pm and each consecutive wave left in 5 minute intervals. Miranda and I started with the 8th wave. The early part of the course that rings the parking lot didn't seem to be as crowded as it was last year. I don't know if it was because we were in an earlier wave or because the waves were smaller. The last wave should have started at 8:30pm.

The first finishers of the 5k segment crossed the line in about 16 minutes. Since we started at clock time + 35 minutes, a lot of people were finished with the 5 k before we even started, but there were still 5 waves of starts behind us.

We eased into a 10 minute per mile pace and had a nice leisurely evening run through Animal Kingdom before returning to the finish in the parking lot. Just as our 5k segment finished, it started sprinkling. As we worked our way through the obstacles the rain increased in intensity. The first obstacle was a series three 4 foot high horizontal beams to vault over. The second challenge was an 8 foot high A frame cargo net. The third obstacle was a balance beam for about 30' and last was a belly crawl for 50 feet under netting.

Then it was on to pick up the clue passport books. By now it was really raining hard. To keep the booklet somewhat dry, I placed in in a zip-loc bag that I kept my drivers license and some cash in. We jogged to the park entrance to begin the scavenger hunt.

The first clue was similar to one from last year so we took a gamble and guessed without going to the actual clue site. Feeling cocky, we did the same thing with the second clue and then proceeded to the third clue site. There we came across a very helpful Cast Member who pointed us to the correct solution.

For the fourth puzzle, we had to back track a little bit since we misread the clue and had already passed the visual clue. Having all four answers completed, we headed for the finish and and turned in our passport to learn that we had an incorrect answer for the second question. Three out of four correct answers, Doh! Our chip time was 1:01:10 - nine minutes slower than last year. But, after perusing through this year's results, we didn't do too bad. There were very few finishers in under 1 hour and the majority were longer than 1:15:00. The total distance according to Garmin was 4.93 miles.

It was still raining after our finish and Miranda was getting cold, so we decided to head back to the Ark at Fort Wilderness. As we were heading for the parking lot lightning storms started moving in and we later found out that the race was abandoned due to lightning for some of the later finishers.

Next year the race will be held on June 12th and we are already looking forward to it.

Hey gang,

I've been lost in work the past week and a half and unable to post but I have lurked here and there.

Chester - Loved the race report. Can't believe the weather. In a way I guess it could have been fun to run that course in the rain.

Howard - Good luck with the 1/2!

Dave - Enjoyed the blog! Does Chester get royalties for these photos?

CindyLou - Nice job on the 20! That stinks about getting sick. I'd just rest up and taper into the marathon. I'm interested in hearing how your race goes. I have family in MA so I may have to try that race out next year.

Ran a lame 11-mile LR on Sunday. I was still sore from the PDR. Got in 6 yesterday but felt this weird twige in the bone on top of my left foot. I finished the run but this bone pain hurt all day. I put off running today and it seems like the pain is gone which is good. I'm thinking of running 22 miles this weekend in Philly. The following week is the LBI 18-mile run so I think after that I'm tapering until 11/1.

Go PHILLIES! I was there last night and the atmosphere was great! Would be insane if they could actually repeat.

Lou

I was at the game last night too. Surprisingly really good seats. I have a sore throat today though. If today wasn't the last day of a crazy month at work, I would have called in sick. I've already told my boss that I am taking tomorrow off. DBF has been sick and I think I have what he has. Ugh! When is it okay to run? My nose is runny but not stuffed so breathing isn't too difficult right now. Maybe tomorrow will be different, but I would like to exercise still this week.

Howard- Hope your cold is getting better. Nice job on getting 6 miles in when you weren't feeling 100%. You know I didn't catch on that Jodi was offering massages. I'm always kind of slow in the ways of women. Heck, I just learned what a cougar is...

Judy- Have fun at the Ridgefield Half. Sounds like there is a Bot meet going on.

Dave - Enjoyed the blog! Does Chester get royalties for these photos?
Thanks Lou, glad you liked the blog, and, of course, I will gladly split all my profits with Chester 50:50. Nice job on the 11 miles, and I can certainly cheer on the Phillies. Unless they meet up with the BoSox in the World Series, then you're on your own.

CindyLou- Great job getting your 20 miler in.

Chester- Thanks again for sharing your race report and photos with me for the blog. Bots rule! :thumbsup2 Anyone want to give me the inside scoop on the RFTT? Are you going to that one Chester? Howard?

Megan- Thanks for checking in. It's good to hear from you. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I got 30 min of biking in yesterday. I'm trying to bike all week, and then run on Saturday. I'm waiting to schedule my massage appointment with Jodi.

Megan: I've always heard the rule of thumb when running when you're sick is if it's a head cold go ahead and run, if it's in your chest, you should probably rest. Hope you feel better soon.

Dave: Enjoyed the blog. Hope your legs are feeling better after a rest.

Chester: Great RR. I'm glad you were able to finish and not have such a disappointing time as so many others had. Your DD is beautiful.

Lou: Hope the foot pain stays away. I think your plan leading up to NYC sounds reasonable. Good luck with your LR this weekend.

I took today off to try to recover from this cold. I am on my way to a nap now. Have a good day everyone.

Cindy

Lou
I thought it was pretty neat to run in the rain through Animal Kingdom. Miranda didn't mind until we finished and she started to get cold. I do feel sorry for all the volunteers and spectators that had to endure the monsoon though.

Chester- Thanks again for sharing your race report and photos with me for the blog. Bots rule! :thumbsup2 Anyone want to give me the inside scoop on the RFTT? Are you going to that one Chester? Howard?

Dave
I think there will be more W.I.S.H.er's at RftT than EEC. I'm running this one with Chet and I know Howard and Cam will be there to represent the Bots. I'd be happy to contribute. I'll even pay more attention to details this time.:rotfl:

Chester: Great RR. I'm glad you were able to finish and not have such a disappointing time as so many others had. Your DD is beautiful.

Cindy
I thought the rain was refreshing. Disney can't control the weather and unfortunately every possible scenario cannot be planned for. I guess that I'm not easily disappointed.

DD is a great kid, but I think she is really going to struggle with Goofy in January. Adjusting to college is taking more of her time than she thought. She figured that since she was living at home, things would be easy.

Hey to all BOTs everywhere.

Chester
