~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Dave - so, are they going to announce tomorrow that it is the last year for the races, but not what is going to replace them?

That was my impression Cindy. They said an e-mail was going out tomorrow - a newsletter, and it would be contained in that e-mail this is the last year for the RFTT and ToT13k. I don't think they are going to announce the replacement until later in the year. I bet they want people to run these races this year, and not decide to hold off for the inaugural replacement race next year.

Hey Everyone!

Jodi - So sorry I missed your birthday! I haven't been on the computer for a few days. Please don't take offense. You will, most definitely KNOW if I'm trying to insult you.

Cindy - That's great that you and Matt are coming to do Richmond. So, no FB at work? Is that why you posted more here in the last 2 days than in the previous 2 months?

Howard - Nice job getting back at it.

Dave - Swog away, my in-the-know friend.

CindyLou - I seem to have missed your FB friend request.:confused3

Howdy to everyone else.

I really should be out running right now but I'm just too dang lazy (and worn out from climbing all those stinkin' stairs up to the top of the Beach Club water slide all day!). Don't tell anyone, but we're moving in the morning to spend some days over at Universal. A first for us. We'll see how it compares.

Take it easy everyone.

Mike and Kathy, You are at Beach Club now?? WOW!! You been everywhere man! Can't wait to hear how you like Universal. DS has been asking about the "other" park...Miss you guys!

Jodi, I sent you a PM, are you ignoring me too?:confused3

Cindy, I am tempted to book your hotel for Richmond for the two nights, just cause...we may even stay the extra night, all depends how the marathon goes I guess. Thanks for the info.

Which reminds me, I need to book a hotel for Disney marathon. Are the AAA rates out yet for January?

DH and I went out for a 4 mile run/walk yesterday. Get this 4 miles in 48 minutes!!! :dance3::dance3:Don't know if my knee could keep that up for 26.2 miles, but it is a start.

I totally think that is why they are doing it.

No, it’s honestly because I finally had time to catch up on all the posts I missed (and people are finally back to posting on here).

Have a great time at Universal! Matt and I spent 3 nights there last summer (the only three days of our trip when it wasn’t torrentially raining due to Tropical Storm Fay, a storm I’m sure you also remember) and had a great time. Front of the Line access is the best! What hotel are you staying at?

Well, if you book it for the extra night, at least you have a hotel room until much later in the day, even if you don’t actually spend the night.

Nice pace on the run/walk!:thumbsup2

I need to book a hotel and flights for Marathon Weekend (and figure out how long we are staying). Where is everyone planning on staying?

Howard - Have a nice visit with your mom!

On the running front, I ran 5 miles this morning. In a repeat of Wednesday morning’s run, I am now completely drained and exhausted. :sad2:

I’m hoping I feel so badly because it was so hot and humid and not because I actually am that out of shape. My current plan is to start the Advanced Marathoning 12 Week/55 mile schedule next week, but I’m not really sure that I can handle a training plan with mileage that high at this point. I guess I’ll try the first week and see how it goes.:confused3

It's a shame ToT will be done after this year-- we had a great time last year and are going again for this one-- curious what the fall event will be. I've heard rumor of a pirate 1/2 pirate: but who knows... I don't have connections like Dave ;)

Chester: Great ob on getting the runs in during the heat and awesome that your family will be doing goofy with you. I also tend to run at night so I can understand the 10pm thing.

Cindy: Thanks for asking about DL. DH and I went last yar for the race but had very limited time, so this will be our 1st extended vacation in CA. This will be DD6's 1st trip, so she is beside herself excited. We plan to spend several days with a friend in LA and do the beach, legoland, and maybe a SanDiego day trip then goto DL for the race. Bummer about the lack of facebook at work but anything that encourages more DIS time can't be all bad

Mike: hope you are having fun at our home resort-- I love Beach Club-- you guys should have fun at Universal too-- we went a few yrs ago and enjoyed it-- now we are holding out for Harry Potter to open.

Tons of posts then... nothing :confused3

I'll stay quiet if you guys will come back, I promise.

We just got back from Hershey. It was a really nice trip. They have added a water area to the park which was nice-- a mini wave pool and lots of kids splashing play areas which DD loved.

I swogged 30 min Friday and yesterday. Not much else for me to report.

Hi Jen :wave2: Sorry about missing you on my last post. Are you and Butch all ready for the DL1/2? I WISH I was going to be running it. I think I'm definitely making plans to do it next year. I've heard the rumors about the pirate:1/2 too to replace the RFTT and ToT13k. Mostly from these boards. Disney was pretty tight-lipped about it and wouldn't tell me anything.

Cindy- Good luck with the Advanced Marathoning training plan. That's such an intense plan. I don't know if I could handle those long mid-week runs. Give my best to Matt.

Colleen- Great job on your 4 miles. That's a fantastic time.

Mike- I've been having the itch to go to Universal too. I have a free 7 day/2 park ticket (from the Super Bowl promo), but I have to use it by 12/31. DW and I were talking on the way back from Williamsburg about what our next summer vacation should be. We're thinking of doing Universal to see Harry Potter. The front of the line access by staying at an on-property hotel sounds fantastic.

Howard- Have fun in the 'Burgh/New Ken. Wave to Plum for me when you go by.

Jodi- How are you doing after the Half in Hades last week?

Hello to Lou, Chester, Sara, CindyLou, and everyone else out there.

Jen- I'd love to hear more about Hershey Park. We've been thinking of going there sometime.

Jen - I'm glad to hear that you had fun at Hershey Park, I haven't been there in at least 20 years.

Dave - How is your shin feeling?

I ran 10 miles this morning and actually feel ok, which is a huge relief given how terrible I felt after my 6 and 5 mile runs earlier in the week.

Hi Everyone,

Dave: Keep on swogging.

Jen: Glad you had a good trip. It's good that you'll get to enjoy at least one more ToT before it's gone.

Cindy: Glad your run was good. Good luck with the 55 miles/week. I cannot even imagine that many miles. I'm not very good about tracking my miles, but I'm not sure I've done more than 40 in a week. Yikes!! It'll either get you in awesome shape, or nearly kill you. I'm running Baystate Marathon on Oct. 18th in Lowell, MA. It's just 20 minutes from my house.

Colleen: Good pace for your run/walk. Keep it up.

Mike: Hope you enjoyed Universal.

Howard: Hope you enjoyed your visit with your Mom. Very nice of you to help her with her yard work.

Jodi: Hello, hope all is well.

I was supposed to do 13 on Friday, but went to the beach instead. Didn't get home until noon time yesterday and couldn't motivate myself to go so turned it into 6 miles today so I won't be too sore for the speedwork tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a little more motivated in the upcoming weeks.

Have a great day Bots.

Cindy

What's Up??

I guess to say I'm jealous reading about everyone's miles would be inaccurate. More like guilty for not doing anything myself.

Colleen/Cindy - O.K., I'm reading all this vague Richmond Hotel information. Hello!!! Wan't to clue me in?

Also, I'm not sure who asked what but... We are planning on staying at Pop again this year for marathon weekend. Kathy booked our room last week. They told her that there were no AAA discounts available.:confused3 She also had a good deal for BC or Poly. What's better? Full price at a value or a good deal at a deluxe for $100 more?

Jen - I'm glad you had fun at Hershey. We went last year and really enjoyed it. Personally, I think they should hand you a candy bar every time you get in a line but that's just me.

CindyLou - Nice that you can run a race so close to home. Pretty familiar with the course?

Dave - Kathy cashed in her free Universal Super Bowl promo ticket for this trip.

:wave::wave: to those I missed.

Let's see. We are staying at the Hard Rock Hotel. Universal has been fun except that Kathy has felt worse than crap for the last couple of days. Hopefully that will resolve soon.

The Express Pass for staying "on-site" has really been great. I don't think we've waited for more than 10 minutes for anything except one show. We still have to do the new coaster that just opened last week (it doesn't have an Express Pass line) but it will only be DD9 and I for that one. It's fun seeing the little jabs they take at Disney (a show host picking on a kid saying "This isn't Disney. We don't have to be nice to you!", etc.)

On the flip side, it's a little disconcerting worrying about the music they play at the pool and the music videos playing on the TV's. Very un-Disney.

And finally, I'm not sure if the personal floatation device that seems to have developed around my waist is from the beer or the cookies I can't seem to resist.:confused3

Take care all. Talk to you soon.

Hi everyone! I am back from Pittsburgh/New Kensington and I went through Plum Boro going to and fro. Dave I didn't wave, but I did think of you as I drove through on Rt. 56.

I drove out Friday night arriving close to midnight. I was up and out by 8:15 AM hitting the monumental task head on. I worked by pulling, cutting, trimming (using loppers) and sawing (electric chain saw) until about 6:30 PM. I stopped once for lunch, that was about a 20 minute rest. Today I was out before 8 and worked until about 11 AM, then showered and hit the road for home. My Mom's yard is very much different.. neighbors came out to comment on it. I posted photos on FB. Mike ~ Ask Kathy to show you them when she is feeling better. Which I hope is very soon!

My Mom, Sister Amanda and Brother Joshua all helped with the project. Some more than others. :rolleyes1

I made the trek home in 4 hours, 15 minutes a new land speed record for me. I, of course, made no stops and kept moving.

I can say this and I know you'll all understand. I am as sore as I have been for any marathon (even Goofy). Every bone and muscle in my body is sore. Even the tips of my fingers are sore and achy.

I think I'll take Monday off and get back to running on Tuesday. I am sorely behind in my training for my fall races.

I hope you all have a great week ahead!

:grouphug:

Howard

Hey Bots!

I've made it through the first 2 weeks of Vegas/Honolulu training without missing a beat. Both Wednesday's and Thursday's runs were after 10:00pm. It's really hard to get started that late, but once you're going, the peace and quiet is nice.

On the other hand, Sunday's 9 miler was run in the middle of the afternoon in 95 degree heat. A steady breeze made it bearable and that I made adjustments for the heat. I walked when I got tired and ran when I got bored from walking.

I'm looking forward to catching up with those who are making it down to the Fall races.

Chester

I am about 8 shirts short of putting in an AlertShirt order. So, if anyone wants one, please let me knoo ASAP.

Ordering site is here.

Thanks!

Hey everyone, just a quick drive-by. DD11 princess: just read my latest blog, and this was her reply. She's begging me to take her to the gym now to use the treadmill.

Code:
I would love to run the Twilight Zone race with you! It sounds really fun!

Colleen/Cindy - O.K., I'm reading all this vague Richmond Hotel information. Hello!!! Wan't to clue me in?

Mike: Cindy booked a pay-in-advance rate $119 for the Hilton Garden Inn (brand new, great reports, close to start/finish), but it was only available if you booked two nights or more. Since then, the rate has jumped to $159, pay-in advance, or $199 cancellable, for two nights. We are still at the Jefferson for one night, $235 a night. I will keep this one and hope something opens up at Crowne Plaza, Omni or HGI.

As for marathon weekend, we too are "discussing" our marathon hotel and it looks like Jeff is going to win and we will pay the $189 for BC waterview (he loves the Boardwalk and quick access to EPCOT.

ALERT, ALERT

Training to report....6 miles this morning ...in 1:07!:dance3:I am really wiped, but thought I should start pushing it a bit more since my marathon is only 8 weeks away.

Dave, cool abour DD11, it is great when kids catch the sports bug!

Mike - Universal sounds fun. Have a beer and watch a raunchy music video for me.

Dave - Not shocked about the closing of the races. Times are tough and WDW has to be having a hard time getting people to pay marathon money for these shorter races. Although I would have liked to have ran ToT at least once.

Chester - Nice job toughing out the 9 miles in 95-degree heat. Coming from the FL heat/humidty, Honolulu should be no match for you.

Colleen - Nice pace for the 4-miler. What's your goal for NYC?

Cindy - 12 week/55 mile schedule sounds rough. When do you find time to work?

CindyLou - I think I have had the same problem as you the last 2 weeks. The beach took the pace of the weekend LR. I think we did the right thing because there are plenty of cold weekends ahead.

Jen - Glad you guys had fun at Hershey. I have not been there in many years during the summer but we usually go around Christmas every year. It's cool to see the park all lit up but they don't have any of the good rides running. I heard it's REAL crowded in the summer.

Howard - Sounds like you had quite a workout with the yard work. I'm glad my parentsd moved into one of those 55 and over communities because I hate to do my own yard work. If you ever pass by Williamstown feel free to bring the chain saw my way. I have some serious tree work to do.

Hey Jodi, Sara, and Cam

I've been bothered by some bad Philadelphia running news the past 2 weeks. First a 23-yr-old woman dies in Fairmount Park when she gets hit in the head by a tree branch while jogging with an iPod. Now two female joggers have been raped in the park in broad daylight. I jog these paths a lot so it's real troubling to hear this. Sad thing is that the city budget crunch has involved cutting back the police presence in the park and they already said there are no plans to improve cell service anytime soon. I kind of feel like you almost have to run with pepper spray anymore.

Lou
