It's not the first time Disney has teamed up with Studio Ghibli to bring Miyazaki's films to the US. From the Disney DVD site:
The Secret World of Arrietty, Ponyo, Tales from Earthsea, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Tortoro, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso, and My Neighbors the Yamadas.
I love the work that Studio Ghibli does, but I can understand those who don't. I don't think the animation is low quality, just the opposite. I think the animation is beautiful and the stories are wonderful. Ponyo is one of my daughter's favorites. I haven't seen all of them, but Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are at the top of my list.
I'm not sure if Walt Disney would be turning over in his grave. Maybe he would embrace the differences.
