The Boards Clearing Out For The Weekend

I like to pop in during the mornings, or if I have some downtime during the evening. I am probably in and out over the weekend just as much as I am during the week.

I just get SO tired of Facebook, I cannot even remember the last time I posted anything on there. I figure if I don't post, I can't offend. I scroll through and read about others, but just don't add to the conversations. Reddit is another one I read, but pretty much never post. If I have a thought on something, it's like 67 other people have already said it in the discussion.

Good Morning! 😎☀️

I’m pretty much here the same every day - mostly just the mornings. I will pop in a little in the afternoon and evening, but it’s mostly mornings for me.

I do remember the more active days on The DIS - I had several groups I was a part of, and some of the groups brought me and others together where we met and are now real life friends. I honestly don’t have time to be on here as much as I did back then - life got busier as my girls got busier. Now I’m trying to find other activities to do at night other than sit on a device. That doesn’t mean I never come on at night, it’s just random times that I pop in and out.

Have a great weekend

Just popping in - I'm relatively new but I'm around on the weekends. Definitely have more time to check in compared to the work week. Never use on my phone so it's only when I'm home to use my laptop.

Good morning all, and a big Welcome! to those of you who have joined more recently, Thanks for chiming in!. Random topic: There has been a ton of hype about the Barbie and Oppenheimer movies opening this weekend. Anyone planning to see either one, or maybe caught it last night? I'll wait for streaming but am curious what y'all think if you see it in a theater. I can't muster much enthusiasm for Barbie, but I'll give it a shot when I can see it at home.

Like many, I'm on almost every day at some point, but really, what is there to say? So few threads anymore; and so few that make for actual conversations. Practically everything is a specific question of some sort - not just the inane ones; some asking for specific information (not opinions), and once you've answered, that's that. The nature of the conversations have just really changed. Personally, I'm kind of done trying with new threads because it's impossible to know these days what will inspire engagement; a lot of the threads I've started just fall flat. And I'd guess there's less than 1/4 of the active posters on the CB than there were 5 years ago, although where everybody went, we'll never know. I do greatly miss the "old" CB but I'm pretty much resigned to it being a thing of the past. :wave2:

I have been on the DIS since around 2001, didn't start posting until 2004. There is a wealth of information on the DIS for veteran and new visitors to WDW/DL, I always recommend it to people who are going or just want information.

It's only been in the past few years that I discovered the CB. I guess I started exploring other areas of the boards once I retired and had more time. I couldn’t access the DIS while working, didn’t have time and it wasn’t allowed. Now I usually check in the AM and maybe later in the afternoon, some days not at all as I have other things to do.

As of late, to me the CM boards are kind of boring. Whenever an interesting discussion gets started it always seems to turn into an argument and it can get pretty nasty at times. It doesn't seem possible to have a discussion here that I find interesting that doesn't bring out the nastiness of some posters. Some just don't seem to be able to express their differences of opinion without being plain old nasty. Once that starts it's just a matter of time before the thread gets closed down or deleted altogether. It's a shame really that we can't talk about interesting topics without it spiraling down to the nastiness and insinuations that some posters seem compelled to make. The most recent thread that comes to mind was titled "America" on the 4th of July. It started out nice enough but of course the usual nastiness just had to rear its ugly head which caused the thread to be closed down. It would be nice if we could all respect each other and behave like adults. I guess that's wishful thinking on my part.

Dan, was it my imagination or for a very short time as there a Dis app. I swear I loaded an app on my phone and then the boards were very easy to navigate and read on my phone. Then it was gone. I swear I'm not dreaming about this!
I had the DIS app on my kindle. It definitely existed!

The boards are more slow paced and a little boring compared to 20 years ago, but I still come here 🙂 I do miss being able to read about different viewpoints for banned topics. I’ve learned so much over the years! I don’t like fb at all (I use messenger daily so I can’t delete my fb account)

I joined semi recently so never got to see the old days on here but I wish I did. I was on other forums back in the day and I really miss that experience, which is why I'm here. Facebook sucks and so does Twitter, so I come here for discussion. I'm on Disney FB groups (Not the DIS's which I didn't know they had) and they are extremely heavily moderated. You pretty much can't say anything even remotely negative about the parks without getting your comment removed.

I've met some really awesome people on here that I now consider to be my friends and have met up with a few of them IRL. I even plan to meet up with a few of them again this fall. I also enjoy talking to others and learning about things I had no idea of beforehand. I've even had my view on certain topics changed before. However I really hate how on some topics on the Community Board, the conversation gets derailed and people on both sides on the issue resort to insults and overall nastiness. This includes people that have the same views as me. It gets really annoying really fast. There are some threads that get posted that make me roll my eyes and go "Here we go again".

Still have it on my tablet. I think I used it once. It did NOT make the boards easier to navigate and read. To be honest, I thought there still was an app, and that the old one stopped working when they updated the main boards about 10 years ago.

Interesting. I was able to read the boards easily on my phone when there was the app (for me I think I found the app about 5 years ago but I can't recall). Didn't use it for a bit and then tried again and it was gone.

I can launch it, get this screen, then I get an error message that the server returned an unknown message.photo.jpg

Good morning, Christine. No, you are not dreaming. There was an app, maybe 5-8 years ago (I lose track of tim, ha). However, it was very rudimentary with it's capabilities. It was more bother than it was worth. Shortly after many complaints about it, the PTB changed board software. The new software was very mobile device friendly with it formating and overall visual appearance.

The biggest headache with using really any device, be it desktop, laptop, phone, tablet, is the extreme level of ads that are on the dis now, with many of them moving, jumping and do every which thing. It makes using the board quite difficult. Most AdBlock apps/extensions work fine on desktops/;aptops. I use a combo of AdBlock Plus and uBlock Origin. Between both, no ads. Mind you, I don;t mind ads on webistes to help p[ay the bills, but on this sebsite, the ads are out of signt, so very obtrusive, making the site very difficult to read.

On Apple devices (I use Android), I understand that apps/extensions like AdBlock do work well with keeping the ad levels moderate to zero. On Android however, the Chrome browser does not react to AdBlock (or any other ad mitigation technique). dis member @Imzadi has often discussed using the Firefox browser, along with a AdBlock app/extension, on Andriod devices when reading the dis website. For quite a time, I, like others here, resisted adding another browser just to be able to read a dsingle website with a level of readabilty. Well, one night, I took @Imzadi's recommendation and downloaded and installed Firefox along with an AdBlock extension. Well, when I clicked on the FF icon and went to the dis site, I felt like Moses leaving Egypt with a host of angels singing behind me. It was so eye-opening. No jumping ads, no ads floating up and down the page, no video ads, no ads. It was stunning to say the least.

On mobile devise, remember that when held in portrait mode, some of the visual information is automatically surpressed, such as a posterr's information below thier name and avatar and signatures. Holding in landscape mode enables those items to be visible.

Are you having trouble now? Android or Apple?

ETA.... Also, I no longer get those irritating spam opopups with the flasing lights and sinning wheels telling me that I just won a Walmart something of other. The dis was the only site those popped up on, when on Chrome (mobile device) but never with FF.

I've been here since 2001ish under a different user name. I miss some of the previous old timers. Definitely a ton of changes, but I still enjoy it! I remember the short-lived app.

Just FYI, you can deactivate FB and keep Messenger. You just can't delete FB. I'm with you on FB. It's so annoying and I find most people clueless. At least we are all very intelligent refined people on the DIS. 😂

Right back at you!!

My issue is with an Apple device. I just find the boards so clunky to read that way. I mean I use a Reddit app on my phone with zero issues but don't like the way I have to use the DIS on the phone.

Well, can't fully help you on that one, no Apple here. I've never heard anyone complain of readability, mostly just the ads, which can be easily taken care of, as I understand it, on Apple.

Are you just logging directly in to the site, like using this link?

https://www.disboards.com/forums/community-board.33/

Maybe ask on the tech board for input from other Apple users. MJ is always good about responding to people there, as are other posters. Wish I had an answer.

Yes, just using the link. I just don't care for how it works on the phone--nothing really wrong with it I guess. Just not a great user experience on the phone.

Is your original screen name a secret? Just curious if I would remember you under your old handle. Of course now I totally recognize eksmama01 (but have no idea who eks is, just know your its mama)
