I call this the bittersweet trip report because as some of you know from the community board, my aunt had terminal cancer. Well the drs. said she had 3 months to live which would have been may 15, well she passed away 4/10/06, one day before our trip. I talked to my cousin and he said to go on the trip, she would have wanted us to go etc. I was so torn what to do, my dh, and 2 of the ds wanted to go, ds18 and I didnt care one way or the other and dh was good about not getting too mad about losing the money, plane tickets, park days on the ap's, room deposit etc. Well we ended up going but my heart was not in it. To top it off, ds18 had a baseball game and got hit in the mouth with a ball, I had to take him to get 4 stitches the day before the trip, we needed this like a hole in the head. I did a seperate hotel and dining review. This was our 2nd easter trip which was the ds school break.
4/11/06 Tiffany Towncar pick up with Berkeley. Great as ever. Soda stop at hess. Check into swan around 2. Room ready. Lunch at ESPN. Epcot, just went on the land boat ride, we saw a choir from hershey pa for the magic musical days and they were good. dinner at coral reef and illuminations.
4/12/06 - MGM. Just wanted to say the ds like to sleep late so we dont usually get to the parks before 11 am. I have learned not to fight them on this. Saw Beauty and the Beast, did Millionare, ate lunch at Flatbread Grill, ds 18 got mad at dh and I because we fell asleep during Indiana Jones. I have to use the wheelchair sometimes because of my bad back. So we used it today. We got it for the whole week. Saw the motor stunt show, my first time. I thought it was loud. Dinner at Hollywood and Vine. The ds stayed for late emh. They saw a boy from their old school. DH and I just went back to the hotel. We were tired. I didnt feel like seeing fantasmic.
4/13/06 - Blizzard Beach. As soon as we got there we saw a little girl from the ds bowling alley. Small world. They are staying at Coronado Springs. Told us she got violently ill from food at Pepper Market. At night dh and I went to the princess storybook in norway for the food. We miss the old Akershus and probably wont go back for a long time. The ds went to disney quest. They told us their friend said the other night he was stuck in the roller coaster simulator at dq and waited over 30 min. for maintenance guy to get him out. gheesh. DH and I watched illuminations again.
4/14/06 - This was the day of my aunts funeral so I really didnt feel like going to a park. We got lunch from captain cooks and rented a pontoon boat from the Polynesian. Got 15% off with our aps. DH and ds 18 took turns driving us around bay lake and seven seas lagoon for an hour. It was quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed ourselves. Dinner was Crystal Palace. MK we did carousel of progress, tta, philharmagic and we were happy to get the dopey car on snow white, dopey is dh favorite dwarf. DH was tired and didnt want to stay in the parks. We watched wishes and the ds stayed late for emh. They rode some of the mountains 3 times in a row. On the way back to the swan our bus driver almost ran off the road by the Bugs Life road sign billboard. Scary.
4/15/06 - DH and the ds went to play golf at fantasia golf. Got 50% off with the aps. I wrote out some postcards. At night we went to Kona Cafe for dinner. I dont remember what we did at night. I know ds18 was watching the Passion of the Christ in the room.
4/16/06 - Typhoon Lagoon. Seemed pretty crowded for the holiday. Dinner at Garden Grill and Illuminations for the 3rd time. Finally had some time for a little souvenier shopping at mousegears.
4/17/06 - Breakfast with Lilo and Stich at Ohana. We waited at the Polynesian and we wanted to pay the concierge to print out our southwest boarding passes. She did it for free and wont take the tip. She said to dh, just come back, come back, come back to Disney. Very nice. But in the lobby we saw something so sad. A man was screaming at his wife, If you are a diser, I am so sorry for you and what you had to go through. She had a son and daughter with mickey balloons and a mom in a scooter. The man was screaming, its always, all about you etc. Well the mom and kids left in tears, later we saw the man come back with the mom on the scooter and they went upstairs to the monorail in the elevator. This man definetely had no disney magic and was making his family sad and miserable. We went to the AK. It was so hot there and then we saw another bad thing. Around 3 pm at Guptas Gifts someone passed out, They were rushing to get help. DId anyone else see this? We saw the parade in the handicapped area. I was in the wheelchair as my back was killing me. Next to us was a wish child from give kids the world. My heart went out to that family. The mom didnt put the button on the kid, if she did he would have certainly got more attention. But they were happy and smiling.
Also during our trip we saw the kids pirate cruise. Can we just say how cute this was. I dont remember the day. My ds said did you ever let me go on that. I said no. I dont know if they had it when they were little. The kids were all having so much fun. It looks like money well spent and very supervised etc.
Also on 4/11 we saw a family with 3 little girls in epcot, one dressed as belle, one auroroa and little one tinkerbell, just so adorable, was this a dis family?
All in all it was an o.k. trip but my heart really wasnt in it. It was also ds18 trip with us he says.
