Hi, I have been feeling guilty about Xmas ~ we are so lucky. We have a nice family, we are sharing a nice meal ~ not to mention the gifts. So this year, I wanted to get my family (dh and the kids) something special. So we are sponsoring a child from the Foster Parents Plan this year.

Next year, we will sponsor a second child in lue of gifts to aunts, uncles, cousins etc.,. they are a nice family, but way too much into gifts. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

What a nice gesture for you and your family to do!

Sandra - I think that's a wonderful thing for you and your family to do. It's all too easy to get caught up in the glitter, I find. This year I tried to make an effort to get the children thinking of others when we are so fortunate ourselves. DD picked out all the food for the food bank at Loblaws when we did our groceries. Both of them went to the wish tree at Sears this year too. Either they haven't had it before, or I just haven't noticed, but they had a Christmas tree filled with stars, and each star listed a child's name, age, and the toy they wanted the most. DD picked another 5yo who wanted a make-up Mindy, and DS picked an 8yo who wanted a basketball. Some of the money came from their banks, although we threw in the rest, but they were both very happy to have got something for someone who may not have had much for Christmas. DS said very seriously to me "Mommy, I think we should make this a Christmas tradition", and we all agreed.

I think the idea of sponsoring a child is absolutely wonderful.

what a nice idea Sandrac. I thought about how lucky we are with a healthy family and the ability to afford to go to DIsney. We participated in the "Christmas Child" shoebox gift program this year and the kids got an exposure to this kind of giving. I think it is a good thing to make the kids aware of. As to your other post, go for the drive! The experience of the sight seeing along the way should be fun!
