But I've always been a good speller. I started reading at the age of 2! (and I stopped at 21 :rotfl: jk )

I still didn't spell it right. I'm just going to forget that word.:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

it was fun...can't wait to go back there. I might get to make a trip this summer (if I can ever get to feeling better!) but Mike will not be able to go with me

thanks! Gray? *looks around* I don't see any gray!

Hey, Cheri. How are you feeling?

crappy...haha....thanks for asking. How are you feeling?

Update coming by the way...got some news.

Hey everyone, I'm copying this straight from the update I made on my gallbladder thread, so there's some technical stuff, but hey maybe you will find it interesting.

I have some news. I managed to get the results of my HIDA scan from the hospital. The results follow:

DOSAGE: 4 mCi Tc 99m Choletec and 60 minutes following the isotope injection, there was a 30 minute infusion of a solution containing 1 mcg of Kinevac.

FINDINGS: No similar comparison study. The initial images demonstrate relatively prompt excretion of isotope from the liver into the biliary tract with flow first into the intestinal tract and then next into the gallbladder. After the infusion of the Kinevac, there is satisfactory gallbladder contraction, with 17% emptying at 10 minutes, but 88% emptying at 20 minutes and 96% emptying at 30 minutes.

IMPRESSION: Normal HIDA biliary scan with Kinevac. Satisfactory prompt gallbladder visualization and subsequent pharmacologic gallbladder contraction.

Honestly, I'm shocked. The test was painful and uncomfortable, and it still turned out normal.

Now, the other part of this news is that I had my Gastric Emptying Scan today. For that test, I had to eat some grits that had radioactive material in them. Then they used the same machine as the HIDA scan to take pictures of the food in my stomach. They said it could take up to 90 minutes, and it did.
I don't have definite results yet, but the food didn't seem to move very much at all. So the 2 techs that were there both said "That must be your problem" because they kept looking at the screen and the stomach is the only part that stayed lit up. The tech that released me said the radiologist would be reading it "within the next hour" and my doc would have the results TODAY. She said I should call the doctor TOMORROW and bug them to get me in sooner. (I told her my appt was next Friday)

I am also still waiting on results from the bloodwork I had done by order of the NP I went to a couple weeks ago. If I tested positive for H Pylori, then that would explain the slow stomach emptying. I talked to one of the people in the office today, and she said someone should have called me by now. She apologized said someone would be calling me tomorrow to give me my results over the phone.

What an eventful couple of days it has been! I still feel terrible. I still have pain in my right side, and I don't know why the stomach (left side) would cause pain in my right side. I will have a ton of questions for my doctor when I see him next!

If anyone is still reading, do you have any input at all? I'd love to hear comments, advice, ANYTHING. I'm at a point where just a smile or some encouragement would help. Why can't this be easier?

I hope you get the rest of your results tomorrow

I'm sorry Cheri, I do hope the other results give you the information you need and that they can get you well again!!!

Cheri....I don't have a whole lot of advice as to your stomach thing but you know I'm here for you!!     I really hope the stomach emptying thing is easy to solve. Hopefully your doc can get you in to see him sooner.

thank you!

I hope things get resolved for you soon!

 thank you!

I just received a call from the Nurse Practioner and all the bloodwork I did week before last came back just fine. So I don't have H Pylori. Whether the doctor calls me or not, I will find out the results of my Gastric Emptying Scan today and I will let y'all know!

 to you Cheri. I sure hope the Emptying Scan provides some results that will help you

I went to the hospital and got the results myself! I've learned that is the way to do it if you want answers. What a shame I have to pay for something that my doctor already has and should call me with. (It's only $1 since it's one page but it's the principle of the matter!)

here are the FINDINGS:

A time activity curve was generated. The T-1/2 emptying time of the stomach is approximately 477 minutes. This is significantly delayed. The findings are consistent with delayed gastric emptying. This may be related to gastric outlet obstruction or gastroparesis. Clinical correlation is recommended.

so the final IMPRESSION: Delayed Gastric Emptying

477 minutes! That's 8 hours!! :faint: No wonder I feel so horrible!
The "normal" emptying time is 60 minutes---which means my stomach is emptying 8 times slower than it should be. That seems pretty severe to me!! I just hope they can find out what is causing my stomach to be so slow! (Gastroparesis just means the stomach doesn't contract like it is supposed to) I know I didn't have any obstructions last year, because they would have seen it on the endoscope--so unless I've developed some type of obstruction over the last 15 months, it can't be a blockage.

Has anyone ever had this or known someone who has? I'd love to be able to hear people's experiences with this. (Should I start another thread to gather some people who have had gastric emptying problems?)

I forgot to add that I called the GI doctor to ask them if they had the results and the nurse called me back, saying that he should look at them this afternoon. She said if he feels it is urgent, he will call me. I told her, I hope he does, because I feel terrible.

That is some slow emptying rate. That is the half-life value, which means that after 477 minutes only half is emptied, then after 2 times 477 (954 minutes) 1/4 still remains, and so forth and so on. It takes ~ 6 half lives for something to be considered practically depleted. [why do i know this? b/c i am a radiological engineer and deal with this stuff on a daily basis; biokinetics is my gig]

I am very happy for you that you FINALLY know what is the source of your problems. It must feel good (mentally) to know that they have finally found what is wrong. Now the question is: what is the treatment for the condition and is it something chronic or acute. I hope the condition is fixed asap so that you can feel better.

I'm glad you finally know what's going on. So, what happens now?

Thank goodness you are getting closer to the problem. I'm like Tat...what are they going to do next???
