The Apprentice....the Trump version...watch out for spoilers

I fell asleep 15 minutes before the end of the show last night, can you believe it? Can someone re-cap exactly what happened in the last 15 minutes when Rebecca & Randall were brought to the Boardroom? I'm gathering bits & pieces through the posts, but a recap would be great!

I missed the Today show... so, Rebecca was on? What type of Yahoo job was offered to her?

It was something in finance. The Exec mentioned Ben Stein and Jean Chatzky. I couldn't quite understand if it was working alongside them or using them as examples of the type of position they had in mind.

Rebecca said that she was interested in discussing it further and that's where it was left.

Trump obviously wanted to also hire Rebecca, and felt she would be a valuable employee and enhance the Trump organization. Randal clearly showed he was not thinking about the best interests of the company--he was only thinking about himself! Even my 10 year old DD couldn't believe he was so 'selfish'!!

I agree with you. However, Trump should have just hired them both and not put Randal on the spot.

I can just see Carolyn now, critiquing DT's actions (as if he were one of the candidates)...."You had a 50/50 chance of getting the answer you wanted. With those odds, why on earth would you take that kind of risk?"

Okay here are my 2 cents....

Trump has always said Randall was great but was he tough enough to be with the Trump organization... I think Randall was put into a position that he had no choice if he says yes... once again he isn't though and if he says no he is selfish.

I think the promo's that said a big twist... could just be the offer, everyone is talking about the show today... it was a big twist and huge "free" promotion for Trump- they got excactly what they wanted.

And I agree with those who stated it before if Trump wanted Rebecca he would hire her for something now... he has never taken no from one of his employees

I liked both Randall and Rebecca. I can't believe she is only 23. She did a great job.
I think it would have been great if Randall would have said yes to Trump.

I think Rebecca saw that coming, because when Trump asked them which tasks they would choose, she made sure to pick the one Randall didn't....... so he could offer them both one. Smart girl.

I think it would have made Randall look smart if he would have said "Now that I am part of the Trump organization, I want only the best working here, and I think Rebecca is one of the best, yes, she should be hired" or something like that!! Donald would have liked that.

I think Trump was giving Randall the chance to prove he really was a guy of integrity and was really the nice guy everyone thought he was. He blew it. Maybe he felt threatned? I don't know. I was rooting for Randall the whole way but would have felt great had Rebecca landed the job too. Too bad Trump listened to Randall. I felt horrible for Rebecca. She is smart and tough. Trump should still hire her. That would make HIM the hero!!!!

Randal kept repeating that he was 3-0 as project manager, while Rebecca was only 1-2. But I think that Rebecca won the final task. Her shindig was run very smoothly, and the big sponsor got what they wanted. Maybe she should have told Yahoo that, like it or not, people would be asked for donations. But this was a VIP-only event, where Randal's task was an opportunity for regular people to mingle with VIPs. That meant you had to treat the attendees differently.

It was pretty obvious that Carolyn, at least, agreed that Rebecca did a better job on that last task. She seemed pretty unimpressed with the auction. I think George agreed with her, but Trump cut him off to go to commercial. So if I were Rebecca, I would have said "Randal, you are now 3-1, while I am 2-2."

And if I were Rebecca, I'd be 23 again. That'd be nice.

I also wonder whatever happened to those Yahoo reps. I imagine that there's a black mark on their permanent records for what happened. Yahoo, like most of these new-age Internet companies, tries to present a softer image than old-style corporations. They're all about community, caring, etc. So when they get exposed as just another soulless corporation, it's a pretty big black eye.

I thought it was surprising that Mark Burnett let one of his big sponsors look bad like that. And it was obviously bad if their CEO had to be present last night to make nice.

They were given a choice between a big renovation project at Trump's Atlantic City casinos, and a high-rise condo project called Trump Plaza, also in New Jersey. They were each asked to pick one before Trump chose the winner. Randal took the casino project and Rebecca took the condo project.

Randall chose the Atlantic City project, BTW.

Speaking of Atlantic City -- weren't those casinos of Trump's in backruptcy recently? Seems odd that he'd be expanding them if they're struggling?

This morning on the "Today show" a rep from Yahoo asked Rebecca to work with them on some projects. Rebecca said that she would like to continue a disscussion about this. Obviously leaving her options open! Katie also had asked her what she would have done with Randal and stated she would have hired him.

Her last task alone would have led to a firing in any other week. She's PM on a fundraising project yet she raised no money. The Aids foundation only has 1 visible banner. Does that really make sense? She could have had Aid foundation info on all of those flat screen tv's. Randal's team had to incorporate the auction because it was only suppose to be a softball game. After that horribe lose - she could still possibly be the apprentice - come on!!! - yet Randal was asked to share the spot light.....

I still stand by my opinion that Rebecca did a much better job organzing the final event than Randall. Although, in the end, no money was raised (although once again we don't really know if any money was raised...there was no money raised that night), it is Yahoo's fault that no money was raised. They did not want to "push the charity" down people's throats. Personally, if I were in Rebecca's shoes, I would've done the same thing -- odds are you wouldn't want to tick off a multi-billion dollar company.

Randall, on the other hand, hardly seemed to help his team on the task. He left one of the guys to set up the field all by himself (later helping him after dark), one of the guys seemed to take charge during the first meeting with the charity executive (the woman even said that if she didn't know Randall was the PM, she would've thought it was the other guy), and he didn't look at the weather forecast. Ummm...you're running a baseball charity event and you don't look at the weather?

Honestly, I don't think there's any doubt as to who "won" this final task. Rebecca pleased a multi-billion dollar company (although with all the bad publicity about their lack of donations, I'm sure they're not pleased now ), while Randall seemed to leave the Outback people disappointed.

That being said, Randall was the stronger player throughout the competition, but when it came down to the bigger task, I think Rebecca performed much better than Randall.

To be honest, Rebecca had a lot less to work with all season. The women on the show (with the exception of Alla) were all pretty weak and catty.

I wish Donald would have hired Rebecca instead. If she was in Randall's shoes, she would have said "yes, hire him" because that is the type of person she is.

This really goes to show you Randall's true character. His only concern was himself and not the best interest of the company. Truly, Rebecca would be an asset. I wish Donald would have said "Randall, I respect your response but I think your wrong. Rebecca, your hired". Maybe he could have also ended with "Randall, that was a bad decision/answer, your fired".

Up until last night, I thought they were both derserving until Randall showed how selfish he was. Heck, they each wanted different job locations. It would have been different if she wanted the same one.

Count me among those who was disappointed in Randal last night. But - as was pointed out, Trump is tough too - he probably likes that Randal has a real tough side as well as a compassionate one. (my immediate reaction to Randal's decision was "back stabber"! - worse than the other women on the show!)

I cannot beleive that Rebecca is only 23! She shows considerable poise - beyond her years! She will get a terrific job offer, no doubt about it!

I commented about her age a few pages ago. Adam was 22, and they treated him like a promising child. They've had people in their early 20s on the show before, too, and they always get fired because they lack experience. But Rebecca's age wasn't an issue at all. I like what Chris said: "She's the oldest 23 year old I've ever met."

I agree with you. Add to that analysis that Randall was "given" bidders. While they only showed one item being auctioned off, Sugar Ray's gloves were bought by another celebrity. And what bothers me most about the rain was that Randall was specifically asked by the Outback rep if he had a contingency plan. It's not as if he just didn't think of it, he considered the notion and rejected the idea. Finally, that speech Randall made about Autism Speaks was a "fill in the blank" canned speech which could have been made for any cause (he kept referring to "the issue.") And I was surprised by Mark gushing over Randall. He didn't seem so happy when he as setting up chairs while Randall sat around in a nice suite with the remaining members of the team.

As for Randall's final decision, didn't he once refer to Rebecca as being like a sister to him? If so, I'd hate to be a member of his family. I also think these statements made by him to Yahoo as part of his bio at the beginning of the season are interesting:

"7. What's your definition of success?
Success is measured by how many people you have helped to become successful.

8. What is your philosophy on business?
Find the best people and then get out of their way so they can do their job."

In the end, he probably did help Rebecca so maybe he achieved his definition of success.
