The Amazing Race 7...official Thread

The brothers said one camerman had cracked ribs and the other (I didn't realize there were two) had bruised discs in his back. They did go on to say that Lynn and Alex stopped and stayed with them for 20 minutes or so. The interviewer (can't think of her name right now) did try to bait them with the whole "Rob and Amber not stopping thing" and they gracefully said it really wasn't a big deal. Good for them! I will miss these guys. Why couldn't this have been a non-elimination round, too? :(

I just thought you were insinuating that gay men can't change a tire.
and I thought that was rather 'prejudicial'

if I took it the wrong way...I apologize.

Wow, I guess people can really read into things. The fact that they are gay didn't even enter into my mind. They themselves said "Oh great a flat tire, what are we going to do now?" or something to that effect if my feeble mind recalls correctly. They were the ones who gave me the impression that they didn't know how to change a tire.

LOL

ok - ok...no debate here. I read into your statement wrong.
as I think some people may have read into Lynn/Alex's statement wrong.

I honestly didn't find anything wrong with what they said.

see where I'm going with this?

As a whole, that was rather a blah episode, but the ending was hilarious. Sad, but hilarious.

I did have some thoughts about the ep, though. Was it just me, or were more mistakes made than usual this time? I'm wondering if maybe the teams didn't get as much rest at the pit stop this time since it was just a bunch of beds out in the middle of a salt flat? Not getting enough sleep for a pit stop could certainly account for the mistakes in reading the clues, mistake of both the brothers and M&G on the water tower, and the extra moodiness of Ron and Kelly. Just a thought.

Anyway, my thoughts on the players:

Romber: Though I don't like his attitude toward the other players, I have to say they're playing the game the best and at this point, I think they deserve to win. They're reading every clue very well, making very few if any mistakes, know their limits, and know how to work together very well. I think they're one of the best teams ever to be on AR as far as how they treat each other, too. Have to admit, I'm impressed. I wasn't a Rob fan from Survivor, but I've been impressed with them on AR. They're my vote for #1 based solely on how well they've been playing the game, treating each other, and treating the "natives".

Ron & Kelly: I agree that Ron isn't so much rude to Kelly as he is indifferent. I'd be surprised if their relationship lasts. And Kelly... I hope she was just PMSing or operating on low sleep. I'm not impressed with either of them. And I agree with Ron, you'd think a ballet dancer would have better balance than that.

U&J: They're my second favorite for the win, and if it weren't that they have such a horrible sense of direction, I'd want them to win. But they're somehow always getting lost. I'm very glad they were able to keep their 3rd place after having to go back and get the post. And I love how much they enjoy each place they visit, and all the animals and everything. And boy was I impressed on how well they did that balance challenge! I'm really surprised everyone else did so porely at it. I'd like to try it, just to see how hard it really is... Good work to them! And good work at supporting each other!

Boyfriends: Ugh. I despise how they treat the others, and their bigoted attitude. If it hadn't been for how they were acting last week and their "stupid" comments to others, I could have let their "U&J were born for this" comment go (after all, that statement could be taken either as a racist comment, or not. We frequently say someone was "born to..." when they have a talent, but I do think theirs was meant in the racist way). But I do have to admit they make me laugh at times, and the way they supported each other through this challenge was fantastic. I think the reason Lynn (wasn't he the supporter? I get them mixed up still) was allowed to verbally help Alex was because Alex *couldn't* do it without instruction. And actually, the teammates have shouted support and instruction to each other before on other roadblocks (such as the horse one, where the teammates were frequently trying to tell the others how to ride the horse, etc). So I don't think there's any rule against *verbally* helping the other, just a rule against physically helping. And, I had to laugh about the way they came in with all the clothes in layers. Makes you wonder if they're going to change the rules next season to say "one set of clothing" instead of the "clothes on your back" or something like that. I also think it was unfair to not make them change their own flat, but it may also have been required. Maybe they didn't have the tools to change a flat in those conditions? Loved the comment about "let's see if we can break this one, too". LOL!

M&G: I've got mixed feelings on these two. I love their attitude toward the other players and the country, but I can't help thinking they're really getting ahead so much because of luck and not skill. Kudos to them for the way they just keep going and going and never give up. And I agree that this is the farthest any "older" couple has gotten, I think. I'll be floored if they win, but wouldn't surprise me if they come in #4.

And finally, the brothers. I am *so* going to miss them and their humor. They are really a class act and I was so sorry to see them eliminated. I really wish this were a non-elim round. I agree that they knew they were far enough behind that they were going to be eliminated -- who knows how long they stayed at the first wrong water tower, but it was long enough that wasn't the last (before them) team leaving the detour as they were just barely arriving? If so, that put them at least 20 minutes past the others, based on how long it took the others to do their challenge. So they knew they were at least 20 minutes behind everyone else when they got to the roadblock, and knew they were last at the roadblock because of being the last clue picked up, and when they didn't see anyone else on the track, they knew they were far behind and their only chance was a non-elim. They sure did go out in style!! I'm going to miss them!

Thanks for posting that!! Wow, Rob looks really hot in that pic :teeth:

Another thank you for posting the link!! You are very correct on this.......Rob does look really hot in that picture!! ::yes:: :teeth: ::yes::

One other thing that I have been racking my brain trying to figure out (as I have not read every single post on this thread ;) ) is what does TTWSNBN standing for?? Just curious........

I too was sooo sad to see the brothers gone last night. They brought so much fun to this season with their *one liners*, and just having an all around good time!

I didn't read of anyone having anything to say about Ambuh doing the task last night ~ ~ everyone is always bashing her saying she can't do anything.....

The Team Who Shall Not Be Named (a Harry Potter reference)

I really liked last night's epidsode. The race takes us around the world too and last night we were able to see a lot more of it rather than rushing through everything. And there were no major dramas. I much preferred them focusing on the wildlife than the fights people were having with each other or other teams.

I really don't think Lynn/Alex? meant anything with his comment. Joyce and Uchenna walked right across that field with the corn. No one else could do it. I really think he just meant they were born to do that, just as someone might say "Micheal Jordan was born to play basketball". I don't consider that a racist comment, I consider that a compliment.

And with the "backseat" people helping with the roadblock, they weren't doing the task, just giving oral advice. People do this all the time during roadblocks. They always shout instructions from the sidelines. I think it just seemed off since the person was actually getting out of the car.

Sorry to see the brothers go. I didn't think they were that far behind. It's funny that two teams now have "wised-up" to the non-elim leg. I wonder if they'll change that for next season.

I enjoyed last night’s episode, but I definitely think it was much less tense/difficult than the previous legs of the race. I was surprised when they went right from the road block to the pit stop. Here are my thoughts from this week:

Rob & Amber—they grew on me in this episode. They really are supportive of each other, which is a refreshing difference from many couples on the AR seasons. I also like how they enjoy the places they visit so much. They are a very strong team, and I agree that a lot of their strategies have raised the game to a new level. Though I sometimes have a serious problem with their actions (for instance the infamous drive by, LOL), I think generally they are mischievous/savvy without being overly rude. I’m not a Survivor watcher, so I don’t have a “history” with them, and I have enjoyed watching them run the race.

Joyce & Uchenna—I just can’t figure out why I don’t connect with them, and I see on this thread I’m not the only one. I too like Uchenna better than Joyce for a reason I can’t figure out. I did enjoy watching them gracefully balance the items on their heads. I also like that they don’t bicker with each other. I hope we get to see a bit more of them in the clips episode tonight so I can get to know them better. I think they have a good shot at winning, along with Rob and Amber.

Ron & Kelly—I guess I just don’t see how he is being so rude to Kelly. Sure he seems irritated from time to time (on this last leg in particular), but she is doing plenty of irritating things IMHO. After seeing the previews of this week’s episode, I was wondering what Ron would do to provoke Kelly into calling him a “redneck piece of trash.” Nothing. Absolutely nothing. She was nagging him to death about the log pulling and he told her to shush. She obviously thought he said something much worse, but I think she was just looking for a reason to jump all over him. I like him, but she gets on my nerves. I agree with the others who posted that he seems more disinterested than rude. Since I like him, I’m still pulling for them to make it a bit further.

Brian & Greg—I am so sorry to see them go. They were my favorite team, and I’ll definitely miss their humor. I loved the end with the swim trunks and hats/glasses. Too funny! I too am hoping to see some more of their humor in tonight’s clip episode. I agree with Barb that watching the race just won’t be the same without them.

Meredith & Gretchen—I have got to give it to them for sticking with it this long. They aren’t quitters, that’s for sure. I don’t love them, but I am rooting for them to at least beat Lynn and Alex.

Lynn & Alex—I was taken aback by Lynn’s comment about being born to carry those baskets too. I’m not sure that he meant it in the racist sense, but they have made some highly questionable comments before, so who knows. I am glad they have quit obsessing over Rob and Amber, and I loved the way they acted about putting all those clothes on.

I guess the thing that bothered me the most was that Ron kept going on and on about how Kelly should be able to balance the bucket, but he wasn't able to do it either.

One other thing that DH caught was when Amber was milking the goat, Rob said something like "He doesn't want to do this." HE??? Better send Rob back to basic biology class...you can get milk from a male goat! :rotfl:

I was thinking that too. He kept saying good boy or atta boy or something like that I was laughing my behind off. Rob is most definitely a city boy! :rotfl:

The funny thing is, he's not. LOL He is from Canton, Mass. Canton may be a big town, but it is far from being considered a city! LOL :rotfl:

Ok, what made Lynn and Alex think it was a non-elimination leg? They were so sure they were going to be last, but they said nothing about this being the end for them. they were stressing about being left with nothing. So, one of them(don't know who is who) piles on the clothes. It was as if they were 10% sure this was a n on-elimination. :confused3

Then the brothers did the opposite! LOL! I was cracking up, but then I was so scared! I was thinking "OMG! What if this really IS a non-elimination round!" They were so funny in that get-up. Even Phil, who tries to be dead-on serious with the last few teams, couldn't keep a straight face. he was really struggling to keep his solemn tone. hee~hee

Ok, about Kelly and Ron...Kelly IMO, is a b**ch. My Dh, who usually works nights, was home sick last night. He was so confused at her going off on Ron. he thought he missed something. I said , no, Ron told her to chill out, and she went off on him. It was the rudest thing he has ever said to her, ect, ect. But then she goes and uses the F word on him? I couldn't believe it. Lady, If you want to get married, yet you get upset because your boyfriend tells you to chill out a minute (not even in a frustrated or angry tone), you must have one dandy fairy tale marriage dreamed up in that pretty little head of yours. ACK. Was anyone else surprised like I was that Kelly, who was Miss texas, could not do the balancing task? Isn't that what beauty pageants are all about? Poise and posture, and balancing books on your head while genuflecting? LOL (Ok, maybe I am thinking of the 1950's, but I thought she would of done better.

So, two episodes this season alone, and there was no catch-up point. The first time it happened, I guess someone said the teams all got to the pit stop later than expected, so the fact that they could get right to the task was not expected. But last night, they didn't have to take a train or plane, nothing on a schedule, and everything was already open for business. So it was most obvious it was planned to have it not be a catch up. I think this is the first time that has happened.

Also, I want to point out, the fact that Alex/Lynn made a comment about Uchenna and Joyce being "born to do that", I didn't hear them say that, but if it was said in a snotty, degrading way, it was rude, but when I saw how good they were at it, I did laugh, and said to my DH, about how Uchenna had just got done talking about his Grandfather from Nigeria. I said something about how is African roots were kicking in. I did not mean it in a predudicial way, I said it, because I thought it was great! I laughed when Uchenna even said it himself!

Lynn and Alex disgust me. I cannot wait to see them eliminated. :sad2:

I was sad to see the brothers go.. they were pretty funny and entertaining and one of my favorite teams.

Say what you want about Rob and Amber, but they show nothing but respect for each other which is normally in very short supply for couples in this race.

Gretchen and Meredith are kicking butts.. good for them! As long as she stops nagging him to "FIX YOUR HAIR" as they are running up to the pit stop..lol :rotfl:

I was also surprised that L&A didn't have to change the tire themselves. Also at how fast their replacement vehicles got to them. Another thing that I thought they would have been stuck with a penalty on was that Lynn (He is the bigger guy, right?) kept getting out of the vehicle to instruct Alex how to hook up the logs. I thought they couldn't help the other person doing the roadblock. Nobody else got out of the cars.. just cheered (or in Kelly's case, griped) from the inside.

IMO
Regarding the comment about Romber... Amber is a very submissive and indecisive person who just lets Rob make all the decisions. It's like she has no brain of her own. I think it's pretty easy to get along when one person always makes all the decisions and the other one sits back and just lets them. Did you notice on the one fast forward with the bridge across the water tower, Rob couldn't decide what to do, so he asked her and they were pretty rude to each other trying to figure it out. It seems that as long as Rob makes all the decisions and Amber just smiles and follows along then everything is peachy, but as soon as Rob doesn't have the answer then paradise is over. I sure wouldn't want to live my life controlled like that.

I have to disagree here. Coming from someone who's DH is exactly like Amber, I am going to say that would be very stressful in a race. My DH cannot make a decision to save his life. It is exhausting being the one to always make the decisons. If we were in this highly competitive race for a million dollars, and I asked my Dh to just ONCE tell me what he thinks we should in regards to that FF situation R&A were in, I would be extremely frustrated, and he would hear about it from me. It would put me over, really.

So, giving the fact that Amber really seems submissive and indecisive ( but is she REALLY? I mean, we only see what the producer's choose to show us), I would have to say, Rob has the patience of a Saint. I sure the heck would not be able to put up with it. I put up with it on a daily basis, I can't imagine if a million bucks was on the line. :teeth:

Did he really say something about getting milk from a male goat?? Maybe the horns were throwing him off. I thought it was odd the first time I saw a femal goat with horns (well any female livestock with horns).

And the tire issue: here's my thought: I think that an executive decision was made that it may be too dangerous to change the tires in the soft sand (the producers didn't want anyone to get crushed by a car, right--although that would be a bit of reality!) so a replacement vehicle was sent. The first thing I though when they got a flat was "how will they change it in that sand?" So, maybe that's it.

FYI: There's a highlight show on right now! I didn't know about that but maybe you've posted it already - I would never have time to go through this whole thread! :)

Kelly didn't use the F-word on him - she thought he said it to her. That's why she was so mad and accused him of being so rude. It looked to me like she either totally misheard him or they had edited something out. If they didn't edit anything, I'm sure she'll be horrified when she sees on tape that he only said "chill out"! Talk about having to eat your words in front of millions of people when you're proved wrong!

Your second point was what she was originally mad about. He went on and on about how she should be able to balance and then wouldn't let her help when they switched to goats.
