THE AMAZING RACE #19 official thread. No Spoilers!! Premieres Sept. 25

Another fabulous decision for "adventure" dad lets u turn the couple in front of us......

I pointed that out to DH, he didn't realize the couple that got u-turned were ahead of them. I don't really like the Dad at all, just from a lot of things he's said, especially to his son.

I think he thought that they were doing the same thing he and Zack did, got the clue, got their pack from the cab, then was going to look for The Jamaica Shack. I don't think he even gave it one thought, that they would have already gotten to the next clue and was heading to the pit stop already.

I know as I was back on the beach, I would have looked at who was still on the water and U-turned that team.

The show needs a new villain team now that the brother and sister went home. Did you notice how nice he was to her even after she messed up big time?

At first i thought the same thing, let them win one. Then i realized, heck, they did the challenge and still endede up on whiney girl's heels! And once you have that adrenaline going....

I agree, there is no way they should have been close with the whiney team using the Express Pass; it is there own fault for not being in first place.

I have not liked them since their "our god is better than your god" comments. I think that the final burst of speed to pass Ernie and Cindy made them look a little ruthless and cut-throat. However, I don't blame them for going all out to win. They are fierce competitors and Andy was in the Olympics. THAT is why Ernie and Cindy should have used the U-Turn on them. They knew that Andy and Tommy were hot on their heels and they should have known that they would be outrun in a foot race.
::yes:: that was really stupid of them not to U-turn the snowboarders. Not only to get them the first place finish in this leg, but to try to get Andy and Tommy either eliminated or as far back in the pack as possible for the start of the next leg.

The other thing I thought was dumb was to use the Express Pass to try to win a leg, rather than to keep from being eliminated. There were just the two teams at the roadblock at that time, right? Or had more arrived? I was a little distracted during that part and can't remember. If the canoes were that difficult, I would have tried the other task first, before using the Express Pass, unless I was one of the last teams there.

I was happy the snowboarders won, they deserved it. They did the leg without the luxury of the express pass, closed in on a huge lead that cindy and earnie had, then managed to pass them and win the leg. Why on earth would they hand that to another team? They fought for it and won it fair and square.

The prizes are incredible for coming in first, and thats probably why the AR has these prizes, to create a fight for first place, otherwise, it really would not matter if you came in first or second, you would basically leave the pit stop at the same time for the following leg. It's a race, it's supposed to get gritty and dirty.

I can agree on the U-turn.

I cannot agree on the Express pass. In my mind, they should use it when they have to save their butt. I.e.--the task is impossible and not only will it jeopardize first, it may put them in last place and eliminate them at the conclusion of the leg.

$15,000 or a trip to some exotic locale isn't a smart use of the Express pass, IMHO. Because using it to ensure their win of a leg prize may cost them the grand prize in the end if they get stuck with a needle in a haystack challenge or some eat all of the disgusting food challenge.

At some point they realized they were towards the head of the pack unless I am missing a detail and they are stuffing the clue box again with more clues than necessary to throw people off.

As for the snowboarders, I am not seeing what they did wrong. They hustled and she was giving up and whining en route. I don't BLAME her for whining. Sustaining a run of questionable distance isn't easy. But I wouldn't reward her for it either.

Yes, at first from his facial expression I thought he was mad at her and I was prepared for him to get nasty but then he was nice and really surprised me. I just can't see getting mad at each other, it really serves no purpose.

My sister thinks that what the snowboarders did was bad karma. I think it was a RACE! :thumbsup2

If Cindy/Ernie had found the Jamaica Shop sooner (instead of wandering around for ages), it wouldn't have been a problem. If Cindy/Ernie had u-turned the snowboarders, it wouldn't have been a problem. If Cindy was a better runner, it wouldn't have been a problem. Every time the camera was on Andy/Tommy on the way to the pit stop, they were actually running. Can't blame Andy/Tommy for being a fit, competitive team. Now, if they had tripped Cindy, well, that would have been bad karma! :rotfl2:

I loved how Bill/Cathi said "there's no fault and there's no blame" - they are always calm and never yell at each other. I'm enjoying watching them do the tasks - they'd certainly kick my butt!

I'd like to see Jeremy/Sandy go next....or maybe the father/son team. I thought I'd like them - and I do like the son - but the father is coming across as a bit of a jerk.

Oh and I liked how Marcus/Amani got their detour done - got right to work with no complaining or whining.

:thumbsup2 This! They used that express pass to come in first, NOT to save their butt. And honestly, hearing her say in the end while running to the mat "C'mon guys, just let us have it" - would you really be satisified with the win after having it just handed to you? I mean yeah, $15K makes it all better, but you didn't "win" it if the boarders just stopped running.

Maybe I didn't word my post well, but this is exactly what I was trying to say. It was not a wise use of their Express Pass. :thumbsup2

I have to disagree (a little) on using the Express Pass to come in first, versus not come in last. On this particular leg, there was the double U-turn. By NOT using the Express Pass, they would have put themselves in jeopardy of being U-turned, which in turn could have put them in last (or fighting to get out of last). So, it wasn't the stupidest use of an Express Pass. Also, that pass is only good for so many legs--I forgot the exact number. It may not have gotten them first place, but it did put them in good standing for the next leg.

That said, I think they hurt themselves more with all the wandering, after getting the clue. But, they're still in good shape for the next leg.

My take on it was they used the express pass to get to the U Turn before anyone else so no one could U turn them. I don't believe they used it to try to win that leg.

I totally agree with wanting Jeremy and Sandy to go home next. She is annoying

Okay, now I am confused. I thought I watched every moment of the episode. I thought they discussed the pass--they actually USED it?

I hope they have sturdy stomachs...you know one of those challenges is coming.

But if they did get u-turned...(they cannot be u-turned twice)...wouldn't it make sense to just use the Express pass to avoid the second task. Or is their a rule that prevents that?

If there isn't a rule, then it is wasteful since they do not know if they will be u-turned.

Still a dumb move and I cannot believe I missed that they used it.

I agree-With the next leg of the race, it can mean, getting the first cab available, or looking for a cab, but with the long airplane ride from Africa to Denmark, it will be all even again. My dd came home from Africa via Denmark. She said you basically go from the bottom of the earth to the top and it takes 8 hours and from Denmark to Chicago was 8 hours.

Someone said the show is a snoozefest-I think they should have a show, where guys like the snowboarders compete against each other and have women compete against each other. Have 2 seperate winners, one for the guys and one for the girls. You know when there is a strong male team, they end up winning.
