THE AMAZING RACE #19 official thread. No Spoilers!! Premieres Sept. 25

After the 3rd fail, I was yelling at the TV, switch spots.

I was yelling, "Steer the plane!" Marcus seemed to do okay until the aircraft was on the ground. The plane would just slowly drift off to the side. I've got a feeling that he just never steered after landing.

Tht said, I was hoping for Amani and Marcus, I think they're great people. And kudos to them for working so hard on that simulator challenge. I got the impression that they were "called in" while they were at the roadblock, and never did the map.

I thought so too. I remember at least one episode from a previous season where the contestants were told that the race had already been won and to go to the pit stop.

Isn't it funny how 2 people can watch the same thing and think 2 different things. I thought he was OVER steering. That he was over correcting and sending it off the runway.

Wow, that is pretty arrogant. But let me tell, you, Cindy, it's all a matter of where you got that 'C' from. My son went to Cornell and they had a saying there. A 'C' student at Cornell just means your an average genius :lmao:

How is what you wrote any less arrogant?

Then there was team Guido. They were never told where the race finished. Their next clue was that it was over. They were REALLY REALLY far behind and I can't for the life of me remember why. But they were still in Alaska finishing up their sleepover in some type of lodge...they would have still had to fly for many hours and then do all the tasks in the last city.

They were told the following morning and I do believe the race ended up while they were doing the mandatory sleepover.

But this was the most boring reality season finale EVER! And I don't believe creative editing could have made it any more exciting, it was just dull.

I agree with this. I have read that the next race will be the last -- that CDS did not renew the contract. After the last couple of races, I think it may be a good call. I didn't really enjoy the race this season. There were certain teams I liked, etc, but on the whole, I thought it rather lackluster. Maybe the teams are getting more savvy or something, but everything was just stale. I also have not liked teams just giving other teams the answers to challenges/roadblocks just to get rid of stronger teams. Working together is one thing, but giving the answers away is another. I realize it is within the rules, but it just makes for a boring race. Bottom line.... I'm not boycotting the next one (not that CBS cares if I do or not), but I probably won't go out of my way to watch it either.

I haven't read all 26 pages so forgive me if this was already asked. Is this the first race where there wasn't a food event?

I thought the last challenge could have been really hard if you didn't know maps. None of the countries were marked, and you couldn't use notes. I think Cindy flew right through it, because she probably studied world maps A LOT in preparation.

I have to disagree with some of the PPs. I felt Ernie and Cindy deserved the win--they did work really hard throughout the race. While she is totally driven, he seems pretty normal--he's happy with working hard, but doesn't seem to mind being the "C student"...and she doesn't seem to mind him being that way, either.

They did do the map. The AJC interviewed Marcus today. They arrived at the map challenge when the 2nd team was still there. Per Marcus, they knew where the "dump" was and figured out Hank Aaron's numbers pretty quickly but could not overcome the flight simulator.

It always amazes me (no pun intended) how some creative editing can control your perception.

If Marcus & Amani got to the map while team 2 was still there, why didn't they show it? Wouldn't that make a great show? Even though they were far behind with the simulator, local knowledge helps them catch up and Look! It's a three way race for 1st! Or would it make you think, "Oh, I guess team 2 is really far behind so they can't win." I didn't buy the whole GPS recalculating which lets team 2 catch up. I think the whole GPS thing was over before team 2 even got close... maybe while they were still at the map. :confused3

I always watch to see what time the teams leave at the beginning of the show and am frequently surprised at the gap, or lack of one, separating the teams. The previous episode will show two teams racing neck and neck (on camera at least) to the pit stop and the next episode will show them leaving 15 or 30 minutes apart.

Whatever. I'll still watch and root for my favorite team. :lmao:

I hope that's not the case - while not always edge of your seat exciting, I love the show. I only wish my son was old enough to apply with me!

I agree. DS has often said he wants to try out for the race when he gets old enough. The beginning of this race seemed like they were shaking it up a smidge (electronic board showing clue; the sign at the orphanage) but it got a bit lackluster after a while. :confused3 Hoping they can figure out how to give the show a bit more edge for next time.

That memory test was the WORST ever!!! They just keep getting easier and easier. That should be the hardest challenge of them all. It should be the stumbling block for the million.

I agree. They know it is coming so you know they are keeping notes and studying them before they get to the end. They need to keep throwing in twists to that final challenge to make it more difficult.

ME TOO!

I am so not happy that Cindy won-- like everyone else she just really rubbed me the wrong way.

I think that they have been picking contestants that are just too goody goody. Every show needs a good villain and they haven't had one in a long time. Remember the couple where the guy yelled at his wife all the time (can't remember their names)-- we all loved to hate him and it made the show interesting. They are also picking people more physically fit and prepared to do all the things. There is just no drama and that makes it boring.

This is the first season there wasn't a food challenge (thank goodness, I hate those!) and there was also no Fast Pass which I think really adds to the game more than adding more roadblocks and non elimination legs.

I can't speak for others, but I knew Marcus and Amani were way behind. What I didn't know was how far behind team 2 was. I suspected they were fairly far behind because the Mitchell house looked to me to be in one of those near downtown areas with older houses and some light business mixed in. Warehouse stores tend not to be in areas like that. One usually has to go to the inner burbs at least to get to one. So I suspected they were well behind. Had I seen Marcus and Amani seeing team 2, all suspense would have been over for me. Because there isn't any way Marcus and Amani could have made up that kind of time on team 1 without a major mistake, I'd have concluded Team 2 was well behind. I just wouldn't have bought the 3 team shootout meme at the end. I think they made the play they thought was the most plausible to create the drama.

Actually, the Mitchell House is in Midtown and is in the middle of a bustling business and entertainment district. The Dump store is in Buckhead. There is a connector road that could get from the Dump to the Mitchell House in 10 minutes ( or less if the traffic lights are on your side).
