The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

This is just a quick check-in. I tried to to a multi-quote reply thing, but my computer froze up and I don't feel well enough to start again. You will all just have to forgive me this time. My sinuses have been terrible lately and I have been medicating like crazy, but nothing has seemed to help. Now, and I firmly believe this is because I used to tease my mother for getting "an old lady disease", I have vertigo. And let me tell you, this "old lady disease" isn't for sissies. I feel dizzy most of the time, with the accompanying nausea. (TMI, I'm sorry). So I've read everything, but typing is a challenge.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, but I did want to make sure to tell Kathy that I'm sorry I missed Kyle's birthday. I hope he had a great one.

Janice - Have fun with Rick and Lori

Laura - I could probably do that back bend, but I would require serious chiropractic care after. :rotfl: Assuming I was able to get out of that position once I got in it. :lmao:

Also, when was the last time you could do this?

2554917392_3f89a3aa7e.jpg

For me, never. Caili had her last gymnastics class of the spring today, so she was demonstrating some of her moves to Liam. I didn't get a picture of her handstand into a flip into a somersault. :faint:

I have this deep desire to go try it... :bitelip:

We have to go vehicle shopping which is something I cannot stand to do. At least I know what I want, I just hate haggling over the price...

Take me with you! I loooooooooooove car shopping and negotiating but we don't get to buy a new car for a long long time. All 3 are now paid off and while it's nice, I sure miss that new car smell.

DH cleaned the kitchen this morning and told me not to cook tonight. We are leaving town so he wants to leave it clean. I guess we'll get something out? He is going to stay with his parents tonight because his physical test for one city FD is in the morning and they live just 10 min from the location.

Have you tried a Neti Pot? It's this thing you use to flush out your nasal cavities and people say that it helps with allergies and sinus problems.

WFD- I don't know. I will be at work late setting up for Open Registration tomorrow.

I think I may stop at the liquor store and pick up some Bacardi Mojito tonight, I'm going to need it after tomorrow. :headache:

Afternoon Y'all,

I got out of the dr.'s office pretty late, so we ended up going out for dinner. Nice though because DD & SIL joined us. We went to a small honduran/mexican place. Yummy honduran chicken tamales, pupusas & fried meat pies! Definitely not diet food but so good! And I have leftovers for lunch!

Sheryl, your middle eastern platter looks terrific! What kind of seasoning do you use on the chicken? It looks scrumptious. I am craving hummus too now!
John’s on his way back from China.

Hope John made it home! Becky, On the chicken seasoning, we have a local Middle Eastern rest. that has a market. They make & sell their own chicken seasoning mix. The listed ingredients are black pepper, cumin, garlic, chili powder & oregano. I marinated the chicken in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, chicken broth and about 2 tbsp. of the seasoning mix. I also added more cumin, black pepper, salt, some turmeric, paprika & fresh oregano.

Great news...

Not only was dinner great but DN won 2-0

...thanks for all the pixie dust!!! Championship game is on Saturday.:woohoo:

Ann

Yeah!!:cool1:

Here's a pic of dinner...it's chicken wings in Lauren's Asian marinade (topped with sesame seeds and cilantro), rice, and haricot vertes with almonds.

Laura, That meal looks delicious! I love what you did with the chicken & Lauren's marinade! Did you put any sauce on the chicken besides the marinade?

You probably weren't even born yet.:lmao:

::yes:: That's exactly what I was thinking!
:rotfl:

Probably the only time I could curl myself up like that was in utero. She certainly doesn't get that from me. I can't even touch my toes. The gymnastics class is normally closed to parents, so today was the first time I had seen it in a while and I was  I didn't know she could do some of this stuff. I guess we won't be crossing gymnastics off the activities list.

Once upon a time, I could do that! Hard to believe isn't it?

I did gymnastics in high school. Nothing compared to the stuff my DD was doing.

Laura, Her gymnastics class doesn't put on an exhibition show for parent's? You'd be shocked to see the amazing stuff the kids can do these days!

I will be back to catch up later this afternoon.....with my dad here it is hard to get on the computer for various reasons.

Dad still hurts but changed his mind on getting an xray....my brother said to just let it be then, if it gets bad enough he will go. If it is a cracked rib (which I do think it is just from knowing others it has happened to) there is nothing they can do for it, and it isn't bothering his breathing.

I am going to go catch a quick cat nap as I didn't sleep well last night at all. I took out Hamb. so something with that in it for supper.

Hope everyone has a great morning! TGIF!

Hope you get some rest & your Dad starts feeling better soon!

Gretchen, I get like that when my sinuses act up too. I'm feeling the same way today. Can't figure out if it's the sinuses or all the meds the dr has me on for the neck/back pain. I never thought of the dizziness as an old lady disease, though. I had it was much worse when I was a kid. Doctors never could figure it out, as I got older, it seemed to disappear. Unfortunately it seems to have returned in my old age! So maybe it is an old lady disease!

Anyway, I hope you feel better soon!

Kathy, Good luck car shopping!

Gretchen -- I hope you feel better. I had a bug a couple years ago that gave me vertigo...it was terrible. Have you seen your doctor?

Laura, Her gymnastics class doesn't put on an exhibition show for parent's? You'd be shocked to see the amazing stuff the kids can do these days!

I didn't add anything to the marinade, except to top the chicken with the sesame seeds while it was baking, and I added the cilantro at the end. I also baked it at a higher temp than Lauren's original directions said...425...and I didn't finish them on the grill.

The class Caili took this year was a beginner class offered at the town recreation center. The instructors run their own gym in another town, but they agreed to offer classes here one day a week. Anyway, it was a little less formal (and much less expensive!) than a gymnastics school. I am looking for a gymnastics school for the summer and next year, though, because the rec center gymnastics will conflict with ballet. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? I know nothing about gymnastics.

Kathy -- Good luck car shopping.

Laura- my daughter did gymnastics for 3 or 4 years. I think she was 3 or almost 3 when she started. At the time it was the only place to choose from. She loved it, it really helped her with her fear of hights, and other people. When she stopped she would have entered the next level, there was nothing fun about it, it was purely competitive. I have no problem with compition, but it was so strict. She is VERY tall, no olympics in her future so it wasn't what we were looking for. I guess that doesn't answer your question about choosing a place. I think when you go somewhere, trust your insticts. If she were to start again I would send her there even though there is now one closer. Swimming is her thing now, unfortunatly it's just as expensive.
Now onto dinner- I don't know.

Thanks for the chicken instructions, I'm going to do that soon. :thumbsup2 I really liked Lauren's marinade & I haven't used it in a long time! :confused3

My Dd started gymnastics with "fun" classes at the Y. I'd ask around & see if you can get any info on your options. Some of the really good gyms with excellent coaches can be a bit much for beginners or kids who aren't that serious about gymnastics. We had a few options for gymnastics around here. (unlike ballet classes) We chose a gym that was a less intense, but still had good coaches that offered more intense classes for serious competitors. When my DD got a little older & more serious, her coach sent a few of them to camps run by Bela & Marta Karolyi near Houston.

This is exactly what I was trying to point out! Some of the gyms push them too hard and too fast. It sucks all the fun right out of it. Most kids are not going to even be capable of college competition much less olympic competitors. I never "got" the parents & coaches who felt the need to push so hard.

My DD's coach ended up guiding her into acro-gymnastics due to her size. She was a "bottom" in a trio and really loved it. They did well enough to compete nationally. It was a great experience for her, which we owe to a good coach who recognized that different kids have different abilities & aspirations.

Hey All...quick fly by...we are having an early dinner to head off to the game.

Gretchen and Sheryl, I hope you feel better...

Kat, Good luck to Kyle. Let us know how you make out with the car...

You gals have me in the mood for wings so I bought some and they are marinating now. :cool1: I also bought several different types of cheese to make a cheese plate. We'll eat that stuff tomorrow. We are just having hot dogs tonight and then sundaes when we get home. Turkey Hill was on sale and that is our favorite frozen yogurt aside for the great ice cream places around here.

Have a great night!

PS: I have also been reading up and experimenting with my camera to take some food porn pics in a couple weeks. :thumbsup2

ETA: I bought some hummus too! Roasted Garlic and then an eggplant one...

Thanks to both of you for the advice! I definitely don't want anything too serious. I'm not training her for the Olympics...she just enjoys it. It's the same with the skating. I want her to have fun. She's only six!

I'm still not sure what Caili and I are having for dinner. I think we will eat someplace near where Liam's practice is. I paid $4.07/gallon for gas yesterday so I don't want to do too much unnecessary driving.

Hi all quick check-in myself,

Good luck to everyone with games tonight!

I am so ticked, I went to the liquor store on my way home from shopping with DM. I bought DH his budlight and myself some Pinot. DH is off tonight so we decide to have a drink before dinner...I hand DH a beer as I am doing that I smash my wine glass into my open bottle of wine. :furious: The stem shattered and there were glass shards everywhere...needless to say my new bottle of wine went down the sink, and now I only have 5 of my favorite wine glasses left. Ugggggggggggggh...after that DH suggested delivered pizza!

Ann

Ann, Sorry that you have that happen...just glad that you are OK. I am always breaking glasses so I know how you feel. My love my "good" wine glasses but I hardly use them since they are very fragile...thank God they are Mikasa!!! ;)

Have a good night and have a beer! :thumbsup2

This is why I use plastic tumblers also you don't have to get up as often to refill.::yes::

Laura I wish our gas was 4.07 last night I filled up with 4.14.

mmmmm Making Sausage 2 types

Jimmy Dean Style Breakfast
Sage
16 ounces ground pork
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/4 teaspoon rubbed sage
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 teaspoon coriander
1/4 teaspoon MSG (such as Accent flavor enhancer)

I uped quatities to 6lbs

and

German Style
Ingredients
2 1/2 lbs boneless pork butt, Boston butt
2 1/2 teaspoons rubbed sage
2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons ground pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons marjoram
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon savory
1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
Directions
1Cut the meat (and fat, if necessary) into chunks. Spread out on a pie pan or cookie sheet and place in the freezer to chill (not long enough to freeze, just long enough to become firm).
2Grind the meat and fat together twice, using a coarse blade.
3Add the spices to the meat and fat mixture and knead it in thoroughly.
4Cover and refrigerate at least a couple of hours or overnight.
5The sausage can be stuffed into prepared casings or formed into patties or appropriate bulk portions and refrigerated for up to 3 days before use after which any remaining should be frozen.

I also added 6oz of Beer to the German style, haven't tried it before but it sounded good :)

If you've never made your own sausage, it is well worth the effort, out of this world taste and you get to control how much fat content etc :)

I've made it using ground turkey. Next time I think I will try your recipe. :thumbsup2

We are going out tonight for breakfast and tonight I'm making black bean soup.

How did you make out at the game?
Looking forward to food porn. I take pictures and never seem to post, ugh!
I bought roasted red pepper this week....so annoyed here I am planning to make some and realize my food processor is history, on next years Christmas list.

This is why I use plastic tumblers also you don't have to get up as often to refill.::yes::
You sound like DH!:lmao:

:dance3: :yay: I've got a brand new set of wheels, I even got the exact color and interior that I wanted, its an SUV - Honda CRV-EXL.....:car:

I am so jealous. We have been discussing a new vehicle for me and the CRV was discussed DH loves them. I am between CRV, or Toyota or Honda caravans. We are car loan free right now on three cars, I hate to change that when nothing is wrong with my camry.

Enjoy the new wheels my friend, safe driving!.....:car:
Good luck to Kyle ...I am sure he has a game this weekend.

Final playoffs are today. DN's team has one loss. They have to win today to play tomorrow for title. DN is so upbeat, boy it amazes me how pitchers handle the stress. I get more nervous than her.

Today, I have to finish grocery shopping, then game is at 2:30. Not sure what game plan will be for dinner...thinking burgers.

Forecast is predicting 90 here today, I am arming myself with sunscreen at the game.:sunny:

Ann

Just a quick checkin today. I hope that all the kids in their championship games are doing well and have lots of Pixie Dust on their side!

Gretchen- go to the Dr!

Burgers, dogs and salad today. It is Kady's recital day and she is in two shows. This should take most of the day and then a little cook out in teh sweltering weather.

Gretchen I agree go to the doctor. A little dizzyness might be ok but it sounds like maybe something else is going on.

We had a wonderful visit with Lori and Rick. When you finally met face to face for the first time you worry about having nothing to say. :hyper: need I say that did not happen. Alex and Rick were troupers they let us talk.:thumbsup2

Lori anythime you want to come back and chase away the storms you are welcome here. Thanks again for the goodies. Alex saw the jumblaya mix and his eye went . That is one of his fav. Its up there with hamburgers and chicken fingers.

Kathy Congrats on the new wheels. I might have to look into one of those in a few years. My car is 9yrs young. It has been very good to me no major or minor repairs just this last issue.

Nancy pixiedust: for Kady. I am sure she will be a star

Lauren Does A have a game today? pixiedust: for him too. How are you feeling? Have you started packing yet. I need to get the cases out of the basement to air out.
