The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

I didn't go. They played in a town about an hour away and the game wasn't until 8. They won 8-4 and Kyle came in and pitched the last two innings to get the save.:goodvibes

Hooray!!! I don't know how you do it with the baseball schedules...I am truly exhausted after this season. Last nights game was early but it took all of us so long to unwind we are all draggin *** today.

I told a man off at the field yesterday. He was on the phone and dropping the f bomb every other word. :furious:

It ain't easy. This weekend their games are at 7:30 & 8:00 at night Fri - Sun all an hour away. The games last about 2 1/2 - 3 hours as they are playing 9 innings now.:faint:

Regarding the f bomb dude - I'd have done the same thing...

Boy, gone one day and I am lost, I am going to ATTEMPT to catch up, but I am sure that I have missed someone or something. please accept my apologies in advance.
Ok, here goes.

Formrcastmbr- Congrats on the win. Good luck on Friday. I would have told him off to. A ball field is not the place for that kind of language, if you want to talk like that then go somewhere in private.

Nancyg56- Congrats on the weights loss! You inspire me. I hvae done NOTHING but gain.

THEHAT- How is Dad feeling today? How did the reunion go with his friends?

bigmerele1966- glad to hear that you suvived the storm unscathed.

Disneyron- Good luck to DN

Tigerkat- Congrats on the win

Belated Happy Birthday to Kyle! and congrats on another win!

Brine-I also have never attempted this, have thought about it and heard that it does wonders. Suggestions?

bathing suits! Bad subject with me. I can't even get in the same room with one never mind try one on!

Dinner last night for us was cheeseburgers and salad. Tonight I am clueless. I never used to be like this either, also knew a day or so ahead what I was having and now it seems that I just wing it.
Tonight I am going to try and finish the baby shower invites so that I can get them out in the mail on Saturday and graduation ones out in the mail on Monday. I am nothing but a party animal this month!

DN is playing today, they need to win today to make playoffs which will take place Saturday. Not sure if we will be able to go. We are having trouble with our central air and a repairman is coming between 2-4, and the dog groomer will be here too. Poor scheduling on my part but I did this before the rain cancellation yesterday. They are predicting 90 over the weekend so it needs to get fixed.

WFD- Boneless BBQ pork ribs (brining as we speak), oven roasted sweet potatos, and corn on the cob (which I still have not used).

Have a wonderful day all!
Ann

Good luck to her!

Sounds ominous, stay safe....

I will, thanks.

The weather has been so freaky lately and each year we seem to be getting more and more tornado watches and warnings.

I am originally from MO and spent a lot of summers there when growing up so I have been through a few and know what to do. The first time one happened here every one was in a panic over the damage, which was a few downed saplings and a little siding ripped off. Looked like someone had taken a trash bags and shook them out on the lawns. I was thinking at the time that that was nothing compared to what could happen and now we are getting worse storms all the time.

WFD- chicken fajitas.

We're going to a Ranger game tonight with friends - we'll eat something at the game. It's a couple that is likely leaving the church so it may be a wee bit painful, simply because I care deeply for them and hate that they are so conflicted, but I'm not the brunt of the frustrations so that makes it easier!

Thanks for all the congrats for A!!!

Ann, Good Luck to your neice!!!

I'll be back later to check in...hope everyone is having a good day!

Lauren- I cannot understand why adults cannot refrain from profanity at kids events :furious: Congrats to Andrew

Anne- Wishing your DN best luck!

Aimee- have a nice time tonight.

Kathy- The thought of those weekends make me tired

Laurie- I have Marisa and Erica cheering me on. They encouraged me to join them at meetings, and when I said that I would think about it, Marisa bought me a pass to make sure I got started. I wish that I had the energy to join them exercising.

I was not planning on cooking because we were taking Buddy's cousin and his family to dinner but something came up on their end. I still am not cooking, it's a fend for yourself night. I am trying to clean and it is not pretty here.

H Y'all,

What time is supper, I will be right over. I'm jealous we finished the container I bought already. Next time I am going to try it with Naan , thanks to you. I love it on pita or bagel chips. Enjoy, and thanks for the reply!

Ann

Ann, I'm glad that you were craving hummus with calamatas!:thumbsup2 The hummus I made last night was the best ever! I realized when I was making it, that I always add lemon juice & cumin. Sorry that I forgot to mention that. Last night I added a couple of calamatas & some of the "olive juice". Really yummy!

We had the hummus with grilled chicken, eggplant, vidalia onions, raita and naan (store bought). Here's a pic:

We had that with pomegranite martinis, too sweet for DH, but I liked it.

Good Luck to your niece! Sorry about your AC!

I can't find the virtual model thing on Lands End. Is it in some special, secret location? Or maybe it just doesn't work with Macs.

Laura, I think the site might have been down, I tried to show it to my cousin yesterday & couldn't get it to work. Try it again. I found it, when looking at swim suits & you pick an item. On the page, you can pick "try it on, then go through setting up your model. It's the My Virtual Model that works with other online shopping.

We won!!! It went an extra inning and we won 8 - 7! :cool1: Thanks for all the pixie dust! We play again on Friday.

:cool1: Yeah for Andrew!!! :goodvibes

For the most part dinner was good. Stuffed peppers, beets, green beens, leftover potatoes and salad. I also made a barley "risotto". Oh Man! It was horrific! Barley cooked in my homemade chicken stock with canned pumpkin. It got good reviews on Recipezaar so I thought the girls would like it as a side. :crazy2::scared::crazy2:. I could not even eat it, Buddy's face was :scared1: The girls threatened to come over and review it for you if I did not.

Kady would not touch anything, she had her mac and cheese.

Nancy, Sorry about your risotto! I'm sure poor Buddy  was afraid you were going to make him eat it!

Tonight will be leftovers or take out. I have a dr appt at 4:30.

Merle, Glad you're okay!

Kathy, Glad Kyle's winning & having fun with the Knights!

Yes, that is Raita. It's a cooling indian dip/side salad. It's really great with spicy curries, but DH likes it anytime we have naan or pita. The recipe I've been using in Stephanie/nucpharm. I add different veggies, herbs or seasonings depending on what I'm serving it with (or how lazy I am.) Last night I made it with cucumber, lemon juice, curry powder & mint. Here's the recipe Stephanie had posted. Since I just realized that I add lemon juice to that too, I added it to the recipe.

Raita:
1 1/2 cups lowfat plain yogurt
3/4 cup chopped seeded peeled cucumber
3/4 cup chopped seeded tomato
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp lemon juice (*my addition)

1. To prepare raita, spoon yogurt onto several layers of heavy-duty paper towels; spread to 1/2-inch thickness. Cover w/ additional paper towels; let stand 5 minutes. scrape into a bowl using a rubber spatula. Stir in cucumber, 3/4 cup tomato, 1/4 tsp salt, and garam masala; cover and refrigerate

OK, now I want me some hummus! Looks good Sheryl! Let us know how you make out at the dr.

Thanks Lauren, I'm just going for another follow-up with the rheumatologist. I don't have an appt with the neuro. until the 19th.

Ann, This is the recipe I used for the martini. I found the Oprah recipe way too sweet. I had to adjust this one too, adding more lemon juice to cut some of the sweetness.

Pomegranate Martini recipe

2 oz citrus vodka
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz fresh pomegranate juice
1 oz simple syrup

Shake all ingredients well with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Add a dash of rose water if available. Garnish with flamed orange peel, and serve.

Sheryl, your middle eastern platter looks terrific! What kind of seasoning do you use on the chicken? It looks scrumptious. I am craving hummus too now!

Tonight I am going to my parents for dinner. I think they are making fish but I am not sure of the exact menu. I might have to sneak back to my house for some carbs afterwards though, because they are dieting and I don’t think they eat any carbs at all now! Yikes! I need my bread! And my pasta, my rice, my potatoes….;)

John’s on his way back from China. I am wondering if he is going to make it home tonight though! He is connecting through Chicago and the Chicago to Boston flight is already showing as delayed 30 minutes even though it’s not scheduled to take off until 7 PM. Then when I checked the massport site it looks like the majority of flights into Logan are cancelled or delayed across the board. It is foggy here so maybe that is why?

Sheryl, thanks for sharing both recipes.

Tonight I am making these to go with my pork.

Oven-Roasted Sweet Potato Fries

1 teaspoon Seasoned Salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut lengthwise into 1/2-inch-thick slices
3 tablespoons Olive Oil

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. In small bowl, combine Seasoned Salt, paprika, Garlic Powder and chili powder; set aside.
In large bowl, toss sweet potatoes with Olive Oil; sprinkle with seasoning mixture and toss to coat. On jelly roll pan sprayed with nonstick cooking spray, arrange potatoes in single layer.
Roast, turning once, 40 minutes or until potatoes are tender and golden. Serve, if desired, with additional Seasoned Salt.

I haven't gotten her recipe yet but it was chocolate cake with a hot fudge center to it. It's baked in a canning jar, then when it is taken out you put the lid and ring on it and the heat seals the jar.

YUM! Be sure to post the recipe when you get it.

This summer team (Louisiana Knights) that Kyle is playing on is AMAZING. They're pretty much the best ball players in South Louisiana and it really is a treat to watch them play!:goodvibes

That's great! You know I love the baseball, but some of these minor league games get tough. I feel so badly for the pitchers when they start walking everyone.

Tonight I am clueless. I never used to be like this either, also knew a day or so ahead what I was having and now it seems that I just wing it.

I've been bad with meal planning lately too.

Laura, I think the site might have been down, I tried to show it to my cousin yesterday & couldn't get it to work.

Thanks, Sheryl! Your dinner looked delicious. Now I want hummus too...

Oven-Roasted Sweet Potato Fries

This one is getting printed out. Sounds great. Good luck to your niece tonight!

Dinner tonight is chicken wings with Lauren's Asian marinade, rice (I was going to fry it, but I'm feeling lazy and the kids don't eat it that way anyway) and French green beans. I'll come back to post a picture later.

Is anyone not having hummus today? Trader Joe makes ours, next time I go I'm going to pick up some naan, that looks fun.
I love sweet potato fries, when I make them I microwave them for a few minutes. It doesn't cook them at all, but softens them only a little, and a little easier to cut.
Tonight is leftover penne and meatballs. Not quite enough for a full meal so I'm going to stretch it with brie, salami, and pesto grilled sandwiches- good think I have a healthy heart. The kiddo will have eggs, toast, and strawberries- I mixed all the leftovers last night and she won't touch anything with sauce.

Great news...

Not only was dinner great but DN won 2-0

...thanks for all the pixie dust!!! Championship game is on Saturday.:woohoo:

Ann
