The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

My name is Ann and I have an addiction......

Calamata Olive Hummus

Where has this stuff been my whole life?????

Just wondering if anyone has a :confused3 good recipe they have made and will share???

Hi gals!! Sorry I haven't posted lately, the kids and my cakes have been keeping me very busy! Boy did I have a busy weekend. I made 4 cakes which altogether could feed over 300 people!

:worship:

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. I wasn't looking for any attagirls, I was just looking to complain a little. I don't mind doing things for Kenny's Mom, she is such a wonderful person, but I have just been a little tired from the extra work. And I don't dare complain to Kenny about it or he would feel guilty. He is already thanking me about every day and telling me how much he appreciates me taking care of his mother.

I'm glad he is noticing how much you're doing :thumbsup2

John sent me a picture of his dinner from Shanghai this morning. I'll post it when I get home. It looks kind of weird, I have to warn you!

I find it hilarious that he takes pictures of his food for you - DH would never do that for me!

We have a staff party tonight - this is my boss' last week! :cool1: We're making the Garden Pasta Salad that I made for my lipstick jungle party. And today the tables are actually turning; I'm crazy busy at work so DH is heading to the grocery store to buy the stuff and make it so it'll be ready when I race by home to get him

I think we're grilling salmon, chicken, and portebellos on the grill along with the sides everyone brings. YUM!

Calamata Olive Hummus

Where has this stuff been my whole life?????

Basic Hummus recipie

3 cans garbanzo beans drained and rinsed
8 oz tahini sauce (usually found in a can in the kosher section)
Olive oil as needed

mix all together in a food proccessor adding oil as required til the consistancy your looking for.

At that point you can add whatever flavors you like as well before processing

ie kalamata olives, cayane pepper, garlic, sundried tomatoes the list is endless.

Note: Make sure you mix the tahini well as it seperates

Oh you guys. Please allow me to vent.

Scott's grandfather's 80th birthday is this week and my in-laws are giving him a party (which he said he didn't want one) on Sunday. So my MIL calls me today to give me details.

She wasn't me to bring a vegetable platter and a dessert. The odd thing? She's getting an ice cream cake. Why on earth would she want another dessert?! There isn't going to be a whole bunch of people there. Oy. And vegetable platters are expensive and I really DON'T want to buy all the vegetable and spend my weekend shopping.

Please, WFD friends, help me out here. This is week 2 that I have had to make something to take somewhere. I hate transporting food so this has me in a mood. Make it better for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, I always buy the premade. I really want to try this.:thanks:

I am so excited we just changed resorts for our September trip. I love trying somewhere new. CSR here we come!

I thought summer was supposed to be relaxing, but it seems the closer it gets, the busier everyone is getting. I guess I should check in here more often. We had a busy weekend so tonight we are having what we were supposed to have on Sat. Steak and cheese subs with onions. Our grocery store just started carrying shaved steak and I'm addicted to it. I still have to make some salad dressing so I can count the salad as our vegetable. A nice easy dinner, but I love hot sandwiches.

Hey Y'all,

I've missed so much, that I won't even attempt to comment on all of it.

I do want to say,

Wendie, So sorry to hear about your Dad. You must have been so scared! I hope he's doing okay & you were able to get his glasses fixed!

Gretchen, Try to take care of yourself too. Your family is going to be in a pickle if you get sick from overwork!

Becky, As usual, your food looks delish! John sure does get to go to some exotic places! I know he's not enjoying it much but it sounds great to me. Can't wait to see what he's eating!

Ann, On the hummus, I always add some kind of garlic, fresh or roasted. I also find that the different brands of tahini, can vary a lot in flavor. Some have a stronger bitter taste. You might want to start with less & add it to your taste.

Not much cooking going on here this weekend or today. We had DH's company picnic on Saturday which was nice but hot. The heat pretty much wiped me out. So yesterday was a do nothing day & my neck/back has flared up again. Dinner last night was takeout from Outback. Which was DH's idea & a good one, cause we were both really in a funk. Tonight will be leftover steak either on a salad on turned into fajitas.

Hope everyone has a good evening!

Shovan, thanks for the FYI on the tahini...a possible food DISaster avoided!:rotfl2:

Rogue, I love shaved steak subs! (if you like Worstershire add some when you saute it, yummo!)

Aimee, what a guy...glad tables are finally turning!

Crazy, thanks now you have me craving pasta carbonara!

:offtopic: Just got the call DN's team lost 1-0 in 9 innings. Fortunately, it is double elimination. :hyper: Next game is Wednesday.

WFD- DS had meatballs and watermelon. I had a leftover pork chop.

Lindsay How about assembling the veggie tray with in season items (on sale) I usually buy just a little of each veggie since most only pick at those trays I have never seen anyone actually finish a tray. I buy what my family likes. Green bean snap peas mushroom grape tomatoes carrots peppers if they are on sale. You can always use the peppers to hold the dip. If you have a farmers market they are good place to get stuff cheaper.

Hope you're feeling better, this heat is terrible and it's only June.:scared1: I'm amazed you have leftover steak from Outback, we never do.:worried:

Good luck!!!!!!:yay:

WFD- Greek chicken livers and I don't know what else.

Well dinner ended up being cheese spread. Got home late and so did mom. Didn't feel like cooking. I may go up and make a chicken sandwich later.

Just go find the easy to prep, or already prepped things, like Hershey said. Grape tomatoes, small button mushrooms, baby carrots, peppers, chinese pea pods. A couple of stores around here also have the carrot and celery sticks already cut.

Lindsay -- Do you bake cookies? That's what I would bring for the dessert since people like to munch on them, and they keep if people don't eat them all. Also, they won't go bad on your trip...I don't know how far you are transporting the food. As for the vegetable platter, I would just buy one. Do the grocery stores near you sell crudite plates?

I thought summer was supposed to be relaxing, but it seems the closer it gets, the busier everyone is getting.

We will slow down in a couple weeks. Spring is the busiest time of year for us. Once school is out, things will settle down a bit.

You now have me craving a steak and cheese.

Ann -- Sorry your niece's team lost...good luck to her and the team Wednesday!

Sheryl -- I hope you are feeling better.

Here's a pic from my tomato, mozzarella, pesto and lettuce sandwich:

Keep telling yourself that there is justice in this life....P will become an adult some day :lmao::lmao:and you can enjoy that :thumbsup2BWAAHAHAHAHAH

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: And we have already cursed him. Kenny told him he hoped he had a house full just like him. :scared1:

Gretchen - Hopefully P will do fine this week, but I'd still have some wine, just in case.;)

I'm all for preventative medicine myself. ;) You haven't mentioned it, so I guess there isn't any good news, but I thought I'd ask.....any nibbles on the house?

That sandwich sounds wonderful. I wish my grocery carried it now.

I agree. In all the parties I have thrown, I've never had an entire veggie tray eaten. Also, I try to buy the items that I can use later in recipes during the week.

Dinner was good tonight and we are having leftovers tomorrow night so I won't have to cook tomorrow. :cool1: It'll be nice to have a break from the kitchen.

Right now, I'm watching Kenny and Hailey play with the Wii. When we bought it I had no idea that she would ever play with it, but she loves it. She is really good at the shooting game on the Wii Play, but for anyone who is familar with it, she just watches the aliens carry her people off in the final level. But she is amazing with the balloons and the bulls-eyes.

Sorry, enough bragging on my baby. Goodnight everyone.

Nothing yet.....You can never brag enough on your baby, she AMAZES me and I can't wait to see her again!:goodvibes

:rotfl2::rotfl2: It took years until Dan got the curse. He was 17 when he turned into the nasty teenager (girlfriend) so by then we were broadsided. He must have gotten scared becasue he has told us he is not having kids. I think Marisa was worried as well after we blessed her with our lettle wish, she told us she could nto stand kids adn along came kady. Kady has every single characteristic that Marisa has, but they are even more "refined". :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: We are so amused becasue the two of them are so alike :lmao::lmao::lmao: See????? Justice!

Now do not stop bragging about our Princess! I can picture her and that vision is a treat!

Lindsay- I would make a simple dessert. We always have something else besides the cake no matter what it is. I would toss a batch of brownies in a foil pan and take that. As for veggies, I would buy simple ones that are already ready. Carrots, celery, grape tomatoes, pea pods and maybe little mushrooms. A jar of dressing in a bowl and you are done. If there are leftovers you can use them for soups. You make a soup often so the veggies will already be close to prepped.

My list was not completed yesterday but I made a dent. Today I have lots of errands and a contractor stopping by this evening so dinner has to be easy. Marinated chicken, sweet potatoes and salad.

Last night I hit Costco after out WI and bought two rotisserie chickens for dinner. The girls and I had a salad with romaine, strawberries, blueberries, fresh pineapple and chicken topped with FF poppy seed dressing. WW couscous along sided. Buddy had a boring green salad, chicken.....no couscous.
