The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

I've done that with hamburger rolls or bread. :thumbsup2 One time I made the best garlic bread with a hamburger roll and lots of fresh garlic and butter. It was soooooooo good but later that night it came back to haunt me. :faint:

The baked spaghetti was fine, but I forgot to pick up a loaf of bread at the store to make garlic bread, so I made Kenny redneck garlic bread - toasted hot dog buns. :lmao: I can't believe I did that. My dad's mother used to do that to use up her bread odds and ends and I used to think it was terrible. Amazing how I've come full circle back to my country roots. :faint:

There is a restaurant right on the lake near our home. Buddy and I went there for dinner one night and ordered bruschetta. We got a little casserole dish filled with those little potato rolls that look like small burger buns, broiled like garlic bread and topped with a tomato garlic mixture. OMG! This was so good, certainly not what we ordered but wicked good. I make my garlic bread like this whenever I have leftover potato rolls. Now all I can think of is garlic bread and I am too cheap to spend the points!

Aunt Wendie -

You blew me away by sending me a graduation card and present. My Mom is going to PM you but I wanted to post a thank you from me. I'll be home for the next two years and playing for Delgado so we'll keep you and Ross posted on my college career. Thank you,

Kyle Blancaneaux

Savory Bread Pudding

Thanks for this, I'm adding it to my stash!

Starting today I do NOTHING but baby shower stuff, as the shower is going to be at 4:00pm on Saturday and I have done basiclly nothing. Guess I'm gonna be busy.

I hope you got a lot done today for the shower - fill us in on details when you have a spare moment!

And here's the recipe. I think it was posted a long time ago, but with our search engine (Lauren ;) ) so busy, it's easier to just post it again. I came up with this recipe myself, trying to copy a dish we had at a local Thai rest.

Thank you for both!

How was your appt?

Oh, how sweet of you Wendie! :goodvibes

Kyle, it's nice to "meet" you. Congrats on all your accomplishments! :yay:

Surgery went well, but he did not wake up as easily as expected so I was there for 4 hours with her. By the time he finally did wake up enough to go home, something set him off and he screamed, kicked, and peed all the way out of the hospital. Poor baby. :(

DH grilled corn on the cob, orange roughy on a hickory plank, and made scalloped potatos for dinner. I was home but asleep on the couch  Oh, and a nice cold Ziegen Bock Amber :thumbsup2

Bless your heart for being there with her. You are a very special woman Aimee.

Evening Y'all,

Wendie, That was so nice of you!!!

Kathy, You've sure raised a good son!

I don't think I've seen double dark soy sauce. :confused3 I have tamari sauce, which is soy but darker & less salty.

Aimee, Poor little guy, glad that Mom had you there for support!!! And what a husband you have!!!

My dr appt was okay. He's not doing anything yet, until I have another MRI. He did see some nerve damage from my physical. Something I never even noticed. When he told me to hold my hands in front of me, with my fingers together, my little finger won't stay in! On my left hand it pops out right away, on my right it jumps. He said that was worrisome, but it's just a wait & until I have the test done.

I wanted to ask y'all for some prayers for my DD. She has been having very bad lower back pain for about a week now. She's seeing a chiropractor & it's not helping a bit. I guess it's in her genes, poor thing she's only 26, my back pain didn't start until I was 30. They have a vacation planned to FL beach planned for Monday, too.

Hi guys! I'm here. I've been on the laptop the past few days and couldn't log onto the DIS. On our regular pc my password is saved and I'm always logged in, but not on the laptop. I can't remember my password to save my life!!

So I've been with you in spirit :)

Tonight it's leftover meatloaf and smashed pototaoes.

Glad all is well. I was starting to worry. I hate when I can't remember.

Aimee I hope that poor little guy was better at home. Some kids don't do well with anesthesia. The mom should let her doctor know so that can mark his chart.

Sheryl I really don't like it when doctors do that. They end up scaring you. I hope your daughter goes to someone her finds out the problem and gives her some relief.

Kathy You have such a wonderful son. :thumbsup2

Last night we ended up grilling burgers after we ran some errands this week is going to be crazy busy.

Lauren Since you get to WDW first save some Mickey bars for me. I've been eating so many salads and I think I may becoming a rabbit.

One other thing:

I'd been having pain in my wrist/hand for a few days. I went to the doctor yesterday and it turns out I had a bone pop out of place! Yowza!!!!!!!!!! It's fine now, a little sore, but boy was I hurting!

Is this from exercising too much? Take care of yourself.

Sadly no. I know how I did it. While transferring from my chair to the bed the other night I twisted my wrist, HARD. That's when it happened.

Sheryl- You know that I'll keep your DD in my thoughts ad prayers. I hope that the back pain she is experiencing is something that can be corrected quickly.

You have had a tough time painwise lately. Hopefully the dr's can find some treatment plan that works for you.

Oh that poor little guy! It is a good thing you were with the Mom, sitting alone waiting would have been terrible, and then her little one's scare. Aimee, all that you do to help your friends is amazing, you take "paying it forward" to a whole new level.

Kyle- How nice to meet you, although I feel as though I already know you through the words of your wonderful Mom. Congradulations on your many accomplishments adn best of luck as you begin your new life in school and sports.

1/2 cup chicken broth
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup melted honey (I used sugar free maple syrup)
2 Tbs ketchup
garlic powder

Brown pork chops I seasoned with S&P (I used bone in, sort of thick ones as recommended in the reviews)

mix remaining ingredients and poor over chops in a baking dish
bake at 350 fro 1 hour. I have a convection oven so I only went for 45 minutes and kept the chops covered.
I also doubled the sauce, made a pan gravy with the dripping in the fry pan so that you know who would be happy.

Dinner tonight is going to be burgers on the grill I think. We do have penty of leftovers so I may change my mind later in teh day.

I have to apologize. I forgot the minced ginger- 1 TB.

Good Morning...quick check in this AM...

We're probably having pizza that I have in the freezer from Market Day. I don't feel like cooking while I do last minute things for our trip...

I will be back later to catch up. Have a great day all!

Kathy, if you can find it, buy Pearl River Bridge brand "superior dark" soy sauce. It is basically thicker and darker than regular soy. If you can't find that brand/style, you could always just boil down regular soy to thicken it up a bit! Or just use regular soy sauce--I bet it would still be good!

Lindsay, sorry about your wrist--ouch!

Sheryl, I will be thinking of you and your daughter. I hope you get some relief soon!

We did end up going out to dinner last night so no pictures! I don't usually feel comfortable taking pictures in restaurants.

Tonight I am hoping that it does not rain because I want to grill. I am making John a steak, and also grilling some chicken sausages. I will also be making balsamic mushrooms to top the steak with, some green beans, maybe some carrots, and a recipe from the Pioneer Woman's website for spicy mac and cheese.

I know I am missing some folks...Happy Friday everyone! :)

Does anyone know about the double dark soy????

No clue. :confused3 Sorry.

OUCH!!! I'm glad it's better now, but wow that had to hurt.

I appreciate you posting the recipe and the correction. I saved the first recipe, so I just added in the garlic. :thumbsup2

Lauren I can't believe you have time to be here at all. I know you must be so excited. If I don't get a chance before you leave, I hope you have a wonderful time.

Tonight is still more leftover baked spaghetti. Boy does that recipe make a ton. Since I wasn't having to cook dinner last night, I made banana nut bread and muffins with the bananas that were left over from the banana pudding that were getting too ripe. They smelled heavenly and we didn't wait for breakfast this morning to eat a slice of the bread. We ate it warm at 9:00 last night. :rolleyes1

I have a question for liamsaunt.

How do you cook bok choy - do you just place it in pan on the stovetop and let it go? I have not had it in a long time but it looks really good in your picture.

The bok choy in the picture is baby cok choy, which cooks faster than regular bok choy. It is super easy: rinse bok choy well and slice into pieces. Discard the root bottom. Then, I just dump it in a pan with a little bit of butter and a splash of soy sauce, cover the pan and blast it on high heat for a couple of minutes--it won't take more than 4-5 minutes to cook. The greens will be tender and the whites will still have some crunch to them. I plan one whole baby bok choy per person minimum--people eat a lot of this stuff. I think one time my sister (liamandcaili) ate an entire one pound box of it--and she is a super skinny minny! Enjoy! :)

WFD - We got Chinese last night so we could watch LSU in the College World Series...it got rained out in the first inning. So we HAVE to get some other kind of take-out for the game tonight!;)

Lauren - I miss you already, I know you're really busy. When are y'all leaving????

Sheryl I really don't like it when doctors do that. They end up scaring you. I hope your daughter goes to someone her finds out the problem and gives her some relief.

Yeah, he did make me worry! He was in the hall, when I was leaving the office & then he mentioned that the "probable nerve damage had him concerned"! This dr. came highly recommended, SIL worked with him, all the neuro. nurses in her hospital, also recommended him. He's supposed to be the head honcho in this area for "minimally invasive spine procedures". But I clearly reiterated to him, I was not asking or looking for any type of surgery, yet. But of course, he repeated that he could do nothing without another MRI. We'll see, thanks for thinking of me & my DD!

Oh Lindsay! That sounds painful! Did you need a brace or anything on that? Hope it heals quickly!!

Thanks Nanc! I know I can always count on you guys, that's why I asked!!!:goodvibes Please keep DD in your prayers, when I spoke with her last night she was really hurting, feeling disgusted & miserable! To top it off she received a letter from her GP, ( the same one that I had trouble with) that her practice is closing effective immediately! She is referring patients to another clinic, no one is taking her practice. So now all DD can do if finish the meds she gave her, & keep trying Chiro. She is leaving this weekend for vacation. I feel so bad for her.

On the soy, would tamari work? Hope you get to grill tonight!

Oh, I get to go see your Sox play the Astros next week! We'll take a quick overnight trip. DH snagged freebie suite tickets for us & two other couples from his office, so it should be fun! Of course we usually pull for the Astros, but the Sox will most likely kick their booties. We'll also have the guy who's the Big Sox fan from the office, so that should be interesting!

When is the MRI? Keep us posted.

I have to wait for them to call me to schedule it, so nothing will be happening very soon on that.

Thanks Kathy, I waited forever to pick up Mo's pizza last night. I guess everybody had the same idea, Tiger's & Mo's pizza. I'm going get my hair colored today, so it will be take-out for us again tonight!

Lauren, Just in case I miss you, Have a great trip!! Y'all deserve it!!! We'll miss ya!!! :goodvibes

Thanks everyone for the prayers!! I know I've been very needy lately, y'all are sweet to put up with me!!! :goodvibes

Sheryl- Wow, the Dr just up and left? It is stressful enough to change Dr's without having to do so in a hurry. I hope that your FF can get some relief, back pain is terrible, there is no where to put yourself.

I am counting the days until next Saturday when I get my hair done. I have been spoiled because I could get it cut every 5 weeks and then colored and highlights every other time. Then the curls in my hair started to disappear and now I have to get my hair cut once a month and I seem to be pushing it with the color. I hit 50 and I seemed to fall apart :confused3

Kathy- I love take out on Friday. Enjoy the game.

Laurie- if you're lurking, I hope your shower plans are going well.

Lauren- Your trip is so close!

I don;t know what is for dinner. I don;t feel too well today, I am fighting a sore throat and headache so I am just hanging around. I have leftover burger if anyone wants them. DH is going fishing tomorrow so I have his cooler ready just in case he catches anything, but I am not holding out any hope :rolleyes1. He never catches anything when he fishes, he never gets a deer when he hunts. I swear he uses the time to catch up on his sleep.
