The ALL NEW Disney's Contemporary Resort FAQ with PICTURES! (APR 2009)

I've spent the last few weeks reading through this entire thread, and all the information (and pictures!!) is so great. Thanks to everyone!

We go to WDW every three years, and are solid WL fans. This year we decided to go during March break and booked a WL CL room. When the 4/3 deal came out the WL CL room wasn't available, so it worked out cheaper for us to get the 4/3 deal on the CR CL room, and so we've jumped to the CR.

I've always been fascinated with the CR, but never really wanted to stay there. Now that I have read through this whole thread I "get it" and we cannot wait for March to get here. We are all so excited about going somewhere new. (We will still go back to WL for a meal, so that we feel a bit like we are going home.)

My one question is a transportation one. What is the best way to get to the Boardwalk. We do have a lunch planned there one day, and I cannot tell if it is better to take a monorail to the TTC and bus to Boardwalk, or better to walk to Magic Kingdom and get a bus to Boardwalk from there - what do you veterans reccomend? (Keep in mind that we live in downtown Toronto without owning a car, so we are not afraid of long walks, or taking buses - we are fine with both options.)

I thought no one is allowed to watch Wishes from there because it's a high traffic area or something like that?

I read one blog from a person who stayed at BLT the opening week that said you could watch from the bridge and that they even pump the music into the bridge area for the fireworks...but I wouldn't be surprised if they decide (or have already decided) something like you say.

Actually there are no buses to the resorts from the TTC, so your only option is to take the one from the Magic Kingdom. However if you don't mind spending the money you can also take a taxi to the Boardwalk, which will be a lot faster. Now since you don't own a car I am assuming you are not planning on renting one, because driving yourself would be the only other option you could have done.

Well if they are allowing guests to watch Wishes from there then it's another location, assuming they are still letting them do that.

Glad I asked. I just assumed the TTC is a hub for all resort buses, but I guess it is just where the monorail and ferrys meet.

Thanks for the info. We will liklywalk to the MK and take the bus.

We usually rent a car when we go on vacation, but never do at Disney. With all the transportation already there, it just doesn't make sense to us. I understand that if you can drive somewhere in 15 minutes, taking 45 minutes on a bus seems like a lot, but when we are on vacation we are not in a hurry, so a 45 minute ride is no big deal to us.

Since we usually stay without a rental car at the WL, I'm guessing we are going to love the convenience of the monorail and walking to MK.

I am so excited we received a 40% off pin code today. I called and had to change our room type to Atrium Level Bay Lake View instead of MK View but it saved us over $1000!!!!!!

What is this 40% off pin code that you mentioned here? Is this a DVC thing? Anything you can share with others?

Best-

Kate

pincodes are mailed or emailed to people for discounts. They are good only for that individual, this the PIN is required for the discount. I just got one today for 40% off deluxes for certain dates thru 6/12/10. Of course, I can't use it--but if they looked at their reservation, I have one for the 1st week of July. No one seems to know the system/pattern they use for mailing out these codes. Best suggestion is to sign up on the disneyworld website. Some have reported calling CRO and asking the
CM whether they have a PIN attached to their name, and sometimes it's a yes!

Yes I am sure you will enjoy having the Monorail and the walkway to the Magic Kingdom, however you might get hooked on it so much that you will only want to stay at the Contemporary and no where else.

I think the best thing to say about the pin codes is that they are totally random, so you never know who will get one. Now my family and I have never got one and we have two accounts registered with the WDW website, although I don't think it matters that much.

Hello CR fans!

I am about to jump ship from the Poly and change to the CR! (Let's hope a room is still available when my TA calls tomorrow!)

From what I've read so far, odd numbered rooms have beds facing the castle, request a room opposite end of CM, and the highest non club level floor you can request is the 11th floor, right?

I was wondering if you can request the boxed fans they have at the Polynesian? I brought a sound machine last year at the Poly and I could still hear kids running up the hall screaming....is it a little quieter at the CR? I don't recall seeing any posts about noise so far! :thumbsup2

If all goes as planned, you will see a new ticker tomorrow and I'm sure I will have a thousand questions! TIA for your help, and I look forward to chatting with y'all!

Hi :)

In all of the times I have stayed at the CR I have never had noise issues. There doesn't seem to be as big of an issue with kids running up and down the halls from what I have seen.

Congrats on your trip and welcome to the CR!!! :cheer2:

Thanks, Jimbo!

I am really excited about the CR. I thought I was going to stay at the Poly again, because we really enjoyed it last time, but I like the idea of staying at a new resort and getting that excitement of exploring all over again :) We'll be going in February, so I like the idea of everything being under the same roof if it's raining, and the CR has hot tubs to warm you up on those cold days, where the Poly does not! I emailed my TA all my info and requests, so I'm hoping tomorrow there will still be some MK view rooms available. The view looks spectacular...I spent the whole evening looking throught the CR pic thread and got to see the panoramic views and it is beautiful both day and night. I'm crossing my fingers for some great info tomorrow from my TA :cheer2:

Your correct about all that stuff you mentioned and in all the times my family and I have stayed there we never heard kids screaming down the hallways and etc.

Well, it's official! My wonderful TA called and was able to switch me over to the CR, MK view! I am so excited! Let the planning begin! This whole trip is a surprise for my DD and I know exactly how I'm going to tell her...I have already bought the monorail set and Epcot accessory for Christmas, and now I must buy the CR accessory to the monorail set. WHen she unwraps it at Christmas, I'll tell her that this is where we'll be staying when we return to WDW in two months!
I know I have seen an unofficial CR site in passing, but I've tried to google and I'm not finding it...can anyone give me a better idea of what words to search with? TIA in advance! :flower3:

Congragulations and have a great time. :thumbsup2

Also is this the website you were trying to find?

We are staying in a tower MK view room from Jan 25th - Feb 1st. I know that during the last year there has been lots of construction going on at this resort. Is construction over? Is there a way of knowing if there will be a lot of construction going on during that time period? I'm so excited

The MousePlanet Park Updates shows the construction schedule at WDW. The major construction that was going on near the CR was BLT which opened in August. The Concourse shops renovation is complete.
