I wanted to post here because we did spend an evening at the CR and had a wonderful time! We requested to see a MK view room, and it really looks amazing in person. It was breathtaking! Now that I've had MK view at the Poly, I can absolutely say the "MK" view itself is definitely more grand at the CR....You see more of the park, and feel like you're in the middle of the action, while over at the Poly, you get the lagoon, palm trees and tropical landscaping with the castle and Space Mountain beckoning to you from across the lagoon. Both equally beautiful, but it all depends on what you're looking for :) We had dinner at the Contempo Cafe and I had the Chicken Basil Pesto Pasta....delicious! and DD had the best Chicken nuggets we'd seen all week. The CMs at the CR were all really friendly, I actually found them to go out of their way more than what I saw at the Poly! Lastly, we watched Wishes from the 4th floor observation deck and it was a fun experience! We could see everything clearly, while watching the monorail glide over occasionally. We loved the CR, and I'm crossing my fingers for another kind of deal for 2011 so we can try it out next year :thumbsup2
Thanks for posting that and good luck that you can get a deal to stay at the Contemporary next year.

I'm glad to read that you liked the CC. It always receives mixed reviews which sometimes are less than favorable, but it sounds like you and your family enjoyed it:thumbsup2

It was my favorite counter service meal of the week! We loved watching all the monorails go by, and the people were so friendly. We ran into a nice woman who had a hubby that worked at the MK and she eats at the CC a few times a week while waiting for him to get off work. She said she had tried all the CS places and the CC was her favorite! :thumbsup2
Thank you for posting your review. It sounds like you're already contemplating staying at the CR next year. I'm sure they'll be some sort of discount available in '11 - or else:eek:

You're welcome! I'm crossing my fingers for a good discount...for all of us! :yay:

I have a question about the planned activities at Comtemporary (like the ones on the beach w/ s'mores or whatever)...can people who are staying at other resorts go to any of them?

This is a random question for you: Are there facilities in the lounge area in case you need to wash your hands, or must you return to your room? I'm travelling with teen aged girls and it would be easier if we didn't return to the room, we'd never get them away without changing clothes again!

If by the "lounge area" you mean the 4th floor Concourse where there is a bar/lounge and QS, then yes, there are bathrooms located by the elevators and escalators, directly underneath the monorail.

Oh, did you mean the CL lounge? I bet you did! Ignore what I just wrote:rolleyes1 Could you just bring hand sanitzer with you:confused3

You would need to go back to your room since there is no bathroom in the lounge.

I was actually trying to be nice, teenage girls tend to go to the restroom in packs, lol. I was wondering if there was one in the CL area or if they would all have to run back to the room constantly :rotfl:

I have a DD11 who needs to change her shoes and outfits throughout the day depending on the restaurant we're going to, her mood, the weather, planetary alignment... I can understand why you're asking and I'd make a trip to Bath and Body Works and have them pick out all their favorite hand sanitizers and definitely have them go to the bathroom BEFORE you get to the CL lounge;)

I saw this posted on the DVC-Mousecellaneous boards and was wondering if you agree with it or disagree with it, where this person says the reason Bay Lake Tower was built at the Contemporary because before it was not a popular resort.

They don't need to make up the loss of the north wing. One of the reasons that DVC was built there was because the CR was less popular than other resorts and often had deep discounts on the rooms.

Well...I won't pretend to have all of the numbers and comparisons between the different resorts over time. However, from the first time I TRIED (no rooms available) to stay at the contemporary resort in the late 70s through now it seems to me that the place has always had PLENTY of business. Not exactly objective data to study, but just my experience.

I went back to page one of the thread that you linked to and the thread started out as a joke (and it should probably end that way).

The OP posted a photo of an ME sign that has a typo reading "Bay Lake Towers" (plural) instead of Bay Lake Tower (singular). From that, the OP (jokingly) extrapolated that there must be another Tower coming soon:laughing:

The rumor of tearing down the SGW to replace it with another DVC Tower has been around since news of BLT being built surfaced. It does reason that if Disney would tear down one GW to build a more profitable resort, then why shouldn't it tear down the SGW, too?

No one can predict what course of action Disney will take in the future in order to increase profits. DVC is very profitable for them and it seems that is the direction that WDW Resorts is taking by only building DVC resorts for many years.

As far as the CR being "more heavily discounted," I just don't believe it. Public and pin code discounts are never only for one resort, they're usually for a broad range of resorts. The CR is a convention resort and frequently the Tower is booked many months in advance and the SGW books quickly because it's the least expensive monorail resort and the rooms are identical to the Tower rooms. When resort rates are raised every year, the CR's rates increase at the same rate as other resorts; they aren't "discounted" more or go up less.

I don't know what the CR's occupancy rates are compared with the other Deluxes (Disney won't make these figures public), but unless you actually know this, you're just guessing that it's "less popular than the other resorts".

I would be interested in reading csaribay's take on all this:surfweb:

We loved our stay this February so much we just booked Atrium Club MK view for January 24th next year!!!! :woohoo:

We'll be there that week too! This year we went from Jan 25th - Feb 1st and loved it. We got a free upgrade to 12th floor club level:banana: The crowds were super light but the weather was cool. We are planning to return the same time in 2011. I was just bugging my DH to book the Aeroplan tickets. We are from New Brunswick originally, good to know another Maritimer will there:thumbsup2

Thanks to all who responded.

I looked at all the pics, so let me be sure I'm looking at this correctly---- There will be the two(or three) long drawers which are part of the side table near the desk. There are two small drawers in the closet. (Not counting the drawers near the fridge or shelves in the closet) Is this it? Am I missing anything?

When were there in January we put DD5's clothes in the drawers and by the time I hung stuff up DH and I lived out of one suitcase on a suitcase stand we put in front of the connecting room door. The closets had lots of room to hang clothes and we used the shelf above the rod in each closet to put our t-shirts and sweatshirts so it worked out alright. Next time DH suggested we take less clothes and just send stuff out to the same day laundry service.

I believe that you can request extra hangers as well :)
