That's a new one... YARN PORN! :lmao::lmao:

I love this thread!!!!! :worship::worship:

Yep, it's an even bigger weakness for me than Disney food porn. Infinitely more dangerous. My poor home is in danger of being overrun with balls of yarn as we speak.

OH MAN, the yarn. ::DROOL::

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. :lmao:

:rotfl: Don't you have yarn shops in the US? I can easily take pictures of more yarn shops (including the one in the house next to mine) if you would want to see them! :goodvibes

Now your just taunting me. You live next door to a yarn shop??? :faint: I'd be broke and then I'd be the sad person peeking in the windows at all the squishy goodness.

We do have them, but luckily there are none really close to me. I have no strength to avoid buying something when I'm in one. I'm already terribly sad that I have to miss a big yarn festival this weekend to go to a birthday party. My wallet however is doing a happy dance. :rotfl:

Hey, I'm a big fan of yarns too!!! (oh wait, I bet we're not talking about the same kind......) :rolleyes1

Finally, a day at home where I can catch up on e-mails, and DISing. Back later on to reply! Meantime, I may go laugh myself silly over what's already here- Yarn Porn. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

You don't want to miss out on the Grand Takeover of Rosie's thread either!!! Make sure you head over and add to the fun! ;)

I love the Germany pictures, and am so happy that your family finally arrived someplace more comfortable to be sick in!

(I'm also dying of suspense over the "Fa"...)

Germany looks like it was so much fun Mom! but I have this horrible feeling that it's not going to compare to Cambodia....... ;) (I get to go to Cambodia next summer. provided I can get 1500 greenbacks from somewhere.)

What a great opportunity for you! I hope it works out for both of you girls to go!

Yay! You made it to the hotel, sick kids are in bed and you're off to see the sights. A vast improvement no matter how temporary it ends up being.

And I love your apron! I'm not so great at wearing them, liking the half ones better or not remembering to put one on until it's too late, but it's really pretty!

I'd wear it to make a pumpkin roll for sure! Which makes me want one.....

That's right. A soft bed for the kids, and wonderful sights for us to see- as for temporary, how could you have guessed?? :confused3

Drooling had commenced.... mmmmm pumpkin rolls. My last one was a diasaster, so I need to make up for that. The whole thing fell apart upon rolling it. I was pretty close to tears.

I know exactly where this is!!! :yay:

This is the Fairfax Fare Sign!!!

Great work, detective.

Liesa, looooove the pictures of Germany. The picture of the chandelier seems out of place for this hotel. Mackenzie wants one of those for her room (in Texas you've got to have a fan, so it won't work-can't say I'm all that broken up about it :laughing:), I'm kinda surprised to see it in this hotel since it's more of a teen girl thing. :laughing:

Then again I haven't seen the room so maybe it goes with the decor. :confused3

Our room was decorated a bit differently than the kids'. A bit more modern with no exposed beams. Yet, it had those to-die-for duvets that were about a mile thick full of downy softness- and the light. Oh Lordy, the light!!! It did NOT fit in, and yet was such an oddity of grand proportions, I had to like it. ANY where else, and it would have had to go. :lmao:

Poor baby's going to sleep as soon as they hit the bed, I hope they felt better by the next day.

We'll see.... ;)

I think between your photos from Germany and photos Ty's put on her board, I really want to visit this country more and more! It just seems so quaint and very beautiful. When you mentioned clean I was sold! Sounds weird I know. Just chalk it up to one of my own quirks. "Every man had his own quirks and twists." -H.B.Stowe

It was all of that- quaint, beautiful, romantic, old (in a historiacally interesting way), and clean.

So sorry to hear you angst about little man's appt., you know you can call me any time you need to talk or vent. My shoulder is a strong one and my ear is easily bent any time you need to bend it.

I think anyone with a son or daughter who struggles in any way (physically or emotionally, or intellectually) goes through seasons of grief and angst. It is normal, and always passes.

Beautiful pictures Liesa. I'm glad that you made it to the hotel without too much more puking. :sad1:

Germany looks so beautiful. I can't wait to hear more about your visit.

You have no idea the relief when we stepped into that hotel room. I just asked my daughter about that piece of the trip, and she describes it as pure "agony". In fact, she is even sort of angry with me at even trying to recapture the pure torture of what she was going through. (I think she is still somewhat traumatized... :sick:)

More coming up later today- imagine, another update in less than 24 hours! popcorn::

Sounds very stessful! :hug: But isn't your whole family rather skinny? So possibly his weight issue might not be that bad... But still of course something that has to be adressed if the doctor says so. And while it is stressful and expensive, it also confirms that your decision to come back was the right one, especially for Zach! :goodvibes

I couldn't quite catch the name of what she was referring to, but at some point she said something about an acceptable weight to height (ratio??) being 14%? and his is only 12 and some spare change. Simply unaccaptable she said. He is eating as much as myself, but has only gained like 1 pound in 2 years. Something is clearly not working right. I hope this round of tests (do we really have to do this again??) will turn something up!

I found it: Fairfax Fare at the DHS, I hope you don't want to know wether it is the FA from Fairfax or the FA from Fare! I love the area! On my one very brief visit to LA, we went to the Farmers Market and I loved it there, I actually enjoyed LA much more than I ever thought I would! It is a bit unfair of you to post this just when Rosie leaves on her trip though, she really would have gotten this, since she loves this place. :goodvibes

I know!!! When I took that picture I was thinking specifically of her- and when I post it in its entirety, I will make a specific tribute to her. I took MANY photos with specific people in mind when I took them- even one or two for you. ;)

No, it isn't!! :eek: But it is done differently anyway - you tell the driver the amount you want to pay including his tip, so if the fare would be 12 Euro and you would want to give hin one Euro tip, you would tell him when handing over the money "13 Euros" - same way in restaurants.

I thought as much. But in our panicked- "let's get the heck in there!" mode, we just handed the money and didn't press the issue.

It looks like quite an individual place with the flowers and the chandellier! :goodvibes How was the bathroom? Do you think, it is a place that I can recommend in the future to visitors to Nuremberg? I really like its location!

YES! Very recommendable!! There will be more coming up in the next installments about the complementary breakfast- as far as the bathroom...

My only complaint was no bathtub. But that is so minor, really. They were clean with big, cushy towels, plenty of hot water, and nice soaps and shampoo. Nice, because, of course we could only travel with a tiny amount.

Overall, it was unique and quaint. I think generally it would be quiet, but we "lucked out" and got some Russian speakers in the room next door who were doing business in their room during the day when Mike was trying to sleep. I can't remember if they had internet ports or not, but must have since they had laptops out and were working on them. :confused3

One other thing was the smell in the downstairs common area as you came down from the guest rooms. It had a funny odor from the kitchen that wasn't so nice, but again, minor, and wouldn't prevent me from staying there again.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! This place was the bomb for sightsee-ers!!

I know this shop and never thought of it as a tourist attraction! :rotfl: Lovely picture of you!!

For some reason, Mike thought the colors here were just really pretty. I wish we had a couple photos of detail shots of the yarn. Espeically now that I know I have readers who would have appreciated them. :thumbsup2

Okay, no wonder I'm struggling with this "letter game." You keep waiting until I've read the TR update and then sneak the contest in!!! :sad2:

And I actually (FINALLY) know this one! It is the sign in front of Fairfax Fare!

Yeah, so sorry abou that, Marv. I meant to go back and clue you in, but forgot!! My bad.

And you did well, too. You got it!! :thumbsup2

The relief that I feel for you over reaching the hotel room is palpable! :lmao:

Thank goodness. Poor kiddos. And poor mom and dad, too! Glad you got to enjoy a nice walk.

Well, as long as you can FEEL it, and not have any other sensory realities. :scared: :lmao:

We really needed that walk- let me tell ya!

So I guess everyone else found the letter already. Boy, I suck at this game. :laughing:

I find it odd to be reading a TR on the DISboards site and suddenly become overwhelmed with an urge to travel to Europe. :rotfl2: I love your pictures!

As in Dole Whips? :lmao: Or as in how much I suck at your game?

Yes, The DISBoards, your local all-inclusive European travel digest. :rotfl2: More urges forthcoming...

It must have been such a complete relief getting to the hotel. There is nothing worse than traveling when sick. Just awful.

The pictures remind me of my stay years ago in Germany. I loved the quaint rooms decorated so differently from American cookie cutter motels. The chandelier in particular is great.

Yarn porn. Such the wrong thing to show a knitter. It's making me terribly jealous. I want to go to Germany and go yarn shopping now.

Relief is a fitting word- to be sure!

I like that they take the freedom to decorate uniquely; there was nothing sterile or cookie cutter about it! :thumbsup2 I wish I had gotten a photo of the curio cabinet FULL of someone's bell collection. That was really cool!

That's RIGHT!! You're a knitter extraordinaire! One who even wins awards and ribbons, if I'm not mistaken. :banana::cheer2: I can understand your excitement- it'd be like someone showing photos of a well-stocked fabric shop to me.

Hello,
I'm joining in I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Magdalene a few weeks ago while in Nuremburg. Along with her sister Katharina in Berlin. Aren't they the two most lovely ladies ever?

Where did you fly into? Aren't the ICE trains awesome?? Were the pastries bought at a place called Ditsch? They had the best chocolate filled croissants!

Can't wait to see what your impression of Nuremburg are! We loved it and would love to return again someday.

Wendy

A great big, gigantic :welcome: to you, Wendy!!! So glad you've uncloaked yourself and are lending yourself to be assimilated! It won't take long...

They are VERY lovely and friendly, and were so helpful too!! I loved our day and evening with them so very much, and we'll be getting to that in another several installments. (Ask the regulars, I tend to go anti-warp speed around here, making my reports last just short of 4-ever.)

Now, let's see what else?? We have always flown into Frankfurt because that's the only place that has flights to and from Almaty. We spent a half day once there too, and loved that as well. ICE trains? What more can I say? I did see a "waiter" going up and down the aisle with drinks and pastries, but assumed it was only for a class above ours. Sure would have been a nice service iwth our circumstances so I didn't have to leave the kids to get my coffee. (I did anyway, because I firmly believe my coffee is more important than my puking children. :lmao: (I'm kidding, for all of you don't know that I love sarcasm.) )

Gosh, I didn't get the name of the pastry place we loaded up at- it was in the airport, and at that point, I was stressed out about finding the luggage storage place and the train station. Shoot!

Someday, we'd love to see more of Europe, but might opt for Southern France or Italy next time. We also love our tropical vacations to Thailand, and want to see something of the Caribbean as well. So it will be a while before we make it back to Germany again.

Nuremberg looks beautiful and your hotel looks like a great, local-type of place to see it from. Glad to see that you've made it that far in your journey.

Today's letter mystery is from the Fairfax Fare sign.

And it's only taken me how long to get 48 hours into our travels. :lmao::lmao::lmao: Hope you're not busy next Sept. when we'll have just arrived at Disney. :rotfl2:

I'm going to start calling you Mr. Hooper.

That's a new one... YARN PORN! :lmao::lmao:

I love this thread!!!!! :worship::worship:

you never know what's going to rock the boat of someone out there. I swear this thread has a life of its own- and you never know WHERE it's going next!

Just joining in. Thoroughly enjoying myself. I found your TR from a suggestion on Captain Obvious' TR. Can't wait to hear more. I also agree about the "Yarn Porn" being a knitter myself.

Awesome!! Another new playmate that's come to have fun on our playground!! :welcome:!! I know you'll make yourself comfortable and have a great time here! I went back and tried to find his (or whoever's) plug to say thank you, over there, but couldnt' find it anywhere!! Whoever you are~~ THANKS!!!! Always fun to have new "faces".

Glad you found the yarn so exciting- I'm not a knitter or weaver myself, but know there are many, many out there! :thumbsup2

I love this shot. I would love to go to Europe some day. Guess i'll have to settle for EPCOT for the time being. :)

OH MAN, the yarn. ::DROOL::

EPCOT doesn't do too badly, I think. I remember during this trip- having just been in Germany, that the aroma in Biergarten was identical to the one in the sausage place we ate at for lunch.

Hey, I'm a big fan of yarns too!!! (oh wait, I bet we're not talking about the same kind......) :rolleyes1

Not that you like to spin them or anything...:rolleyes1

You don't want to miss out on the Grand Takeover of Rosie's thread either!!! Make sure you head over and add to the fun! ;)

Oooo, oooh, I'll be over soon!

I love the Germany pictures, and am so happy that your family finally arrived someplace more comfortable to be sick in!

(I'm also dying of suspense over the "Fa"...)

Thanks!! It was a sweet place to land, and be comfy for a while- at the very least, we think the Good Lord gave us this 2 days to (somewhat) recover before continuing on.

I'm going to give a recap of the game here in a bit...

Loving the pictures of Nuremberg. I love reading about travels to other parts of the world. I hope the kids are feeling much better real soon so they can join in the fun!

Thanks, Mary Ellen! Hopefully, this part is as fun as the Disney that's coming!

They do- and they don't...

Aw, I remember him!

These are the people in your neighborhood, in your neighborhood, in your neighbor-hood, oh...

Now I am going to have that song going through my head all night long. I loved Mr. Hooper and was so very, very sad when he left us. The show's just not the same the last several years.

OHHHH NOOOOOOo!! Not here too!! :lmao: I had to endure Billy Jean today on my oldies station. :yay::rolleyes:

Billy Jean... one of my favorites!!!!!

I love this one!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2:
