It is the kids that amaze us all sometimes! And what treasures they are given - not to mention valuable life skills like making friends, bathroom skills, how to squat without touching your backside to the ground - how do they do that??? I've tried and tried and it never works but I chuckled when I saw the photo of your daughter in a perfect Asian squat.

I had forgotten that she was posed in an Asian squat. do they squat like that (especially the men) on the sidewalk and talk? In Kaz. so many are still jobless and spend hours (yes! hours) squatting on their heels while under the influence of unreal amounts of alcohol. I have problem squatting for 5 minutes with nothing.

Here's that new apron I finished up a few days ago. We're having fish tonight!!! (Really.) I really like the way it turned out. Of course there are a ton of little oopsies here and there, but overall, I am enjoying wearing the warm colors of autumn as I cook. They make me feel warmer- especially if I have a pumpkin spice candle burning.

OMGosh! You did such an amazing job on it!!

I looooove it!! Autumn is my most favorite time of the year to decorate, even over Christmas as we both have in common and now I'm seriously envious of your new digs to cook in!!

beautiful apron!! I love the style! I have one which is similar which my mother gave me once And the colors really suit you! Did you use a pattern (or what it might be called, the paper you use to cut the material) or did you invent it yourself??

You had it right, it's called a pattern.
My DH can figure those things out better than I can.
The very first costume I made my son (or should I say...I was going to make my son) when he was a baby, gave me such a hard time I had to ask for help on the darn pattern! My DH being the engineer that he is and not a teacher, decided to take over and cut it out and then proceeded to "help me" sew it too! Needless to say I was a bit upset, but it turned so well I didn't have the heart to say anything!
I then decided to make him a trick-or-treat bag and was able to make the hood part to the costume (DH didn't know it was also part of it-he he he), so I at least made part of it. Now when I can't figure out a pattern, I chuck it and wing it! The "Chuck it and Wing it" method works better for me any way.
Half the time the patterns aren't correct or don't make a lick of sense....or is that just me?!?

Thanks, Tanya! I really like it! Now we're working on our Galadriel and Susan (from Lion, Witch and Wardrobe) costumes for the English Country Dancing Ball. Fun stuff!

I just know those will turn out beautifully!! I can not wait to see them!!

The best part is that I saved about $10 in making it rather than buying it. I saw some that were very similar for about $35, and this one costme about $25 to make. I used a pattern- there is no WAY I could come up with that on my own. Although I do know many ladies (and guys) who can.

I have a clothing protection devcie for use when manning the deep fryer. It's from my brother in law and is covered with cigars. Not that I would ever actually smoke a cigar. (GFAMT!) But the pattern makes it more manly. Which is important you see.

I guess I’ve left you all hanging long enough, and have found a few minutes to get on with this story. I need this TR writing therapy after a stressful visit to Zach’s endocrinologist; looks like he’ll be back on growth hormone again, and he is FAR, FAAAAAAAAAAAAR below what he should be in weight as well. Which means MORE appts. to the GI, more hassles with the insurance co., more missed school, and more money out the pocket. (Sorry, I don’t usually like to rant and bring ‘real life’ stuff onto here, as this is as much an escape for me, as I’m sure being on the DIS is for you.) So, onto better things...

We last left off with two victims taking a Ride on the Ralphing Railroad. Other than wiping the bathroom’s entire supply of nifty plastic bags out, being embarrassed somewhat, and running to the train’s toilet to dispose of “things”, we had a really, really nice 2 and a half hour trip. The scenery was spectacular with vineyards, small villages with sweet little churches and steeples, and tidy gardens along the tracks. The potential problem with our tickets was NOT an issue whatsoever, which was a GREAT relief to me. If you’ll recall, in a gigantic doofus-moment, I made the ticket reservation in my maiden name which does NOT match the name on the credit card I used. Phew!

Arriving at the Nuremberg station, we had to make some hasty decisions- which really were no-brainers. Mikki and Zach were just FAR too ill to make the short 1 mile walk to our hotel, which was our original plan. We thought we might be able to take in some of the sights along the way, and get a feel for the area, but this was clearly not to be. With no other choice, we negotiated a taxi up to our hotel- the Hotel Elch- which really means “moose” in German. A moose like this one on the wall:

It was far cheaper than I thought it would be, and Mikki and Zach were kind enough to only leave one “souvenir” for our driver. Don’t worry, we had extra bags, and we took them with us, but I can’t imagine that he didn’t wonder what the heck was going on in his back seat. I did manage to get 3 photos of our first impressions of Nuremberg, none of which came out very good, but hey, there would be 2 days to get some better ones:

The driver found it with no problems, and happily took our money- including the tip that we sure would have loved to hand back to him. Ah well, I guess that is how it is done… It was time to check in. It was very obvious right away that this was a family run, very low-key, casual sort of place, and we loved it right away, even though we had to wait a bit to be helped. One room was ready; the other was not, but at this point, we were just grateful to get a private toilet, trashcans, and any other receptacles to handle our misfortune. The kids especially appreciated the copious amounts of Kleenex, TP, and wet washcloths, as you can imagine. They fairly passed out on the white, fluffy beds, luxuriously beds draped with down duvets, and were asleep within seconds- literally. Their sound sleep was only interrupted to “take care of business”, and by now even that was becoming less frequent. HOORAY!

Having stashed the pukers, and one tired little (healthy) girl, it was time to take our first walk. I made Mike promise that we wouldn’t be gone more than an hour, and with that we took off to see what we could see. I did catch your apron though - I love it!! You are so creative - I wish I could sew. After the apron talk on here, I realize I should really get one myself. They really do serve a purpose - I'm always getting something on my shirt when I'm cooking!

I wondered where you went- long hours are hard. Holding up okay??

They can come in handy for sure- I've saved a ton of laundry because basically, I'm a great big slob in the kitchen. Now if they only made aprons for the floor... Which now that I think about it, is a really stupid idea, because then you'd just be doing more laundry..

It did. Those beds were like sleeping in clouds of pudding- so warm and cozy. I will try to find the pictures of the 2nd room tonight to see what I can find. I only put up the first few that I took as we checked in. The light fixture was quite a doozy and I know Leslie is going to absolutely think she's died and gone to heaven when she sees it.

I really hope you do get over there someday. There is so much to see and do, and we were only in ONE city!!

I kinda felt guilty about leaving them all behind-


for about 20 seconds. I figured that Mikki at 15 was perfectly capable of taking care of the kids for an hour; and it turned out, there was absolutely NO need to have even worried. THey slept hard with only an occassional "turn toward the trashcan".

THey were heaven for all of us, after we'd traveled and been up ALL night and day so far.

I finally made it back here, almost 50 pages later! That really stinks that most of the family was sick during your trip. I have a stash of plastic bags in many places (car, desk at work, etc) just in case I get sick - I had walking pneumonia last summer and would be overcome by coughing fits then suddenly feel an urge to puke, so I learned to keep bags everywhere. The worst time I had to actually use it I was driving across the desert between Phoenix and LA at 80 mph, I mean 70 mph (or whatever the speed limit is) , and it came on so fast there was no way I could pull over. Luckily I keep the plastic bags in the console next to the driver's seat.

I love the pictures of Germany, everything is just so cute! Looking forward to hearing about the rest of the trip, hopefully the sickness will be ending soon! I may not post often, but I will still be reading once in a while.
