Man I wish I could keep up with this game better. That last one was really hard! Or else I'm just challenged  I'm sad to hear that you didn't get the job. In my opinion, if i was meant to be, it will be. Perhaps that's the way things were supposed to go so you can get everything done for that giant dinner party. Take it easy

Ok, then PLEASE take a spoon - with a santa hat or mickey ears!!
smiley_emoticons_leckerer2.gif
Like others have flat people travelling with them!!
Hmmm, Liesa had Tate getting into all kinds of situations.......maybe I can do the same with a spoon. I guess I will have a contest to come up with an appropriate name for my travel companion over on my PTR....... :) Points for the winning entry! :thumbsup2

Call out the lifeguards!!! Pat, We may need you here soon!

All ready and waiting. :rotfl2:

:rotfl: My parents actually were very strict about table manners when Katharina and I grew up and elbows were one thing they were really strict about!! Did you know that there is quite a differenc in table manners between the US and Euope - especially on how to use the fork, there is even a Wikipedia article about it!

No problem! BTW toilett paper is another thing which is very different in Germany than in the US, it is thicker and softer here...

I thought European was fork in left and knife in right as it is referenced in the Wiki article but US was both in right hand and you switch off. Fork in left to cut and then put knife down and switch fork to right.
I use European but my German mother was very self conscious about it. Apparently she thought the fork in the left hand was not proper in the US? :confused3
When I was a child I remember using my fork in my left hand and some other mothers were whispering. I thought it was about the fork being in my left hand so I switched. :confused3 Who knows?

As for toilet paper, if Germany has thicker and softer TP then it must be like wiping with a pillow.:lmao: Of course the hotels have thin cheap stuff but you can get some pretty thick Charmin here. My DS got some and I can't believe I am actually saying this but it is a bit too thick.

Turned out it was an atral flutter. They tried some medication which "usually puts things back in order", but it didn't work. Twice. Soooooooooo... they had to sedate and shock him. :scared1: He ended up being just fine, and in fact, took us out for dinner tonight for my DH's birthday, which was also today. Yeah, happy birthday, your dad's being electrocuted today. :sad2::guilty:
I am glad your FIL is Okay but as a CPR instructor something about that sentence just made my giggle a bit. Sorry. Just be glad they sedated him before they shocked him. If he has a hairy chest he may either be shaved or have burn marks.

Sorry to hear about the job.

I knew you wouldn't be thrown off by those dummy clues. Not that you're a dummy- didn't mean to imply that at all. I knew you'd go asearchin'!! Alas, Magdalene lucked out with that avatar of someone else's. That's pure-de-luck.
The EPCOT tried to throw me off but then I saw not. I saw Park and the PJ's got me thinking about Peter Pan. I did see the party and while thinking of Fantasyland attractions I went over to MHTP and I did have a picture of the sign of my own. :) Since it was closed the last trip, the sign was not visible and fresh in my memory. ;)
Of course, at first, I noticed no clues and was a bit overwhelmed. Then I thought " she should give us a clue, park, resturant, ride what am I looking for" Duh of course you gave us a clue.

Thanks, TK!!! Sounds like he's fine- but is now telling us that he's had this before, and that if he just gave his chest a little "thump" it went away. :scared1:

That is a bit :scared1:. Self defibrillation is not recommended.

Mr McSpoon!!!!

Hi Camille, great to see you, too! How nice that your washing machine plays a little song, mine only make a nasty "beep" sound! :rotfl: I also read about all your cooking project, that sounds great! I had to make caramel for the first time for a cake recently and found it very exciting, too!! :goodvibes

I love my washing machine!! I know, sounds crazy.
We actually just bought a new washer and dryer set this last spring. We tried to go cheap and get a top loader mainly because I was trying to save money and put it towards our Disney trip, and because I hate change.
I found out the manufactors don't put near the quality into the top loads because everyone is buying front load machines now days. I ended up having a machine that didn't work all that well, so I sucked it up and threw in the extra money to exchange for the upgrade and went with the front load. :goodvibes I love it! We bought an LG set and they play little songs for us when either load is done. I actually look forward to doing laundry now because of how great this new washer works. With the last new one I had to make very tiny loads in order for everything to come clean or to get all the soap out of it. :headache: New machine... no problems!
Did your caramel sauce come out as good to you as you thought it would? I found my sauce just didn't quite have the taste I thought it should have had. I must have done something not right. :confused3
I'm thinking I may try a new recipe to add to Thanksgiving, orange glazed green beans, I had this a couple of years ago at a women's church group I use to attend.

Thanks for the nice compliment. :goodvibes I am not sure that hospitality is that common in Germany. But perhaps we really spend more time with friends at home? I also once heard that it is common in the US that people say "You should come and visit me", but this isn't meant as an invitiation. When Germans say that, it is a real invitation. But then we might not say it so easily! :goodvibes But if you want to experience hospitality, Eastern Europe can't be beat!

I'm excited to find this out in person!! :yay:
I'll just say this in regards to coming to visit....when I tell someone to come and visit I truly mean it. :lovestruc When it comes to most American's, your probably right, but I do think if a Diser is saying it, it truly means something. :goodvibes

I see you all have nicely entrenched yourselves this morning. Welcome to the State Hospital.

Speaking of V8's, if I weren't fully entrenched myself in other mundane matters such as trying to buy a used car, I'd be here tidying up the halls. I dunno, but I think God instituted used car purchasing as Marriage Refinement 101. Challenging to say the least....

I know just the feeling.

I wanted to make a smart alek comment about how EVERYONE including us had their elbows on the table - go back and look, it's rather comical how we all had identical postures during the conversation.

This is something I've been trying to teach Mackenzie not to do, along with many other manners that I know I've been teaching her since she was little, but it seems to be something that just doesn't click with her. What's a parent suppose to do? :confused3 I think the appropriate way is to allow the arms to rest against the table, but not allowing the elbow to be on top of table.

They are so yummy; if you want to pass your recipe on, by all means...

I sure can, you may have to remind me since this is the countdown week to Thanksgiving. I love this time of year, even if it can get a bit hectic. I'm have 18, count them, 18 guests over for Thanksgiving this year, potentially up to 21! How crazy am I?!? I have a friend who's house caught fire two years ago Sept. and since they don't really have all their ducks in a row yet I invited them over. With my family, friends and a few misfits thrown in I'm gonna have one heck of a Thanksgiving to
remember!

WOW! You've been a VERY busy bee in the kitchen!! OK, pie crust is a major PITA!! I mean it. Whoever made up that assinine saying, "Easy as pie" is a big fat liar. I don't do pies very often, which really irritates Mike because as much as I hate making them, there really is nothing better than homemade Oregon Marion or blackberry pie!!

Your telling me! I keep watching it on all the cooking shows and they make it seem so easy!! But alas, it's not. :sad2:

I think this was the part that MOST everyone was looking forward to most. Of course, we're just getting warmed up- the hilarious antics of us 3 girls will surely bring about some screen spewing.

Can't wait!!! :yay:

Hip-pi-de-hip, jurah!!! The paper is done, you got your tickets, and I just found a great table wine for $3.99 a bottle at Trader Joe's called Green Fin. Not bad. Anyway, I hope these late night writing sessions are over for a while; if I"m going to write, I'd rather be doing updates!!

Have you bought the two buck Chuck everyone talks about from Trader Joe's yet? The name I believe is Charles Shaw, it may cost more there, but in Cali. it costs 1.99, hence the name 2 buck Chuck. :goodvibes

I think a lot of people were looking forward to this- there's just something extra magical about people meeting who share something in common, and find out they have much more in common and forge a friendship!! :thumbsup2

I think your whole trip was like this, meeting new people and forging some wonderful friendships. :lovestruc

Well, it was a Riesling, but German Rieslings sold in Germany are different from those which are exported. We like the Riesling to be lighter and less heavy. :confused3

I'm with you here Magdalene, I like a light wine. I like mine to be light and crisp. There are a couple of wines from Portugal that I really love. I think of this type of wine to be more a summer wine, and I love a good light Merlot for the winter. I'm not much for heavier wines, although I probably won't turn a glass down if it were offered.

Glad to hear your FIL is doing better Liesa, it doesn't sound like this is a fun way to start one's day. I have to agree with Pat, doing one's own self de-fibing is not a good thing. Althooooough, I do hear that if your trying to stay alive while waiting for someone else to get there, coughing a hard cough over and over can actually pump the heart. Much like a sneeze, but sneezing at will miiiight be a little tricky. Ha!

There are probably some spelling errors in here, but I'm to tired to go back and check.

Oh, Camille :guilty: Sorry you had a sad day. Here I was yacking away on the phone about my stuff, and you had stuff going on. I have been there and can help if I would stop and listen! Looking forward to hugging you for real very soon!

I didn't really have a sad day per say, more like a moment. I'm usually one who gets over things pretty easily, I don't know if it's a denial thing I'm good at or if it's really a God's comfort thing. He's so good to me, I'm more inclined to believe it's the latter. :goodvibes

Trust me, if I felt I needed to talk about something I'm pretty good about speaking up and asking for what I need. I thank you for thinking of me though, it's so good to know others are so caring and concerned.
I can't wait to give you one of those in person. :goodvibes

:confused3

So your mother is German and your father Bolivian? Quite an international family! :goodvibes

Ok, then I think German toilet paper is not thicker, but is just like the stuff that you use at home. I have only ever stayed in hotels in the US and while I have noted differences in quality, it is always rather thin. Also, here the layers of paper would be kind of connected with each other by a structure in the paper, so they cannot be sperated easily... :confused3

I'll just say this in regards to coming to visit....when I tell someone to come and visit I truly mean it. :lovestruc When it comes to most American's, your probably right, but I do think if a Diser is saying it, it truly means something. :goodvibes

I really did not mean to offend anyone by implying that Americans aren't great hosts! I think that's the problem about generalizations about another country's habits - you will always find the exception! And I am really glad to see that there are so many wonderful people here who are the exceptions! :goodvibes

Aww... Magdalene you're wonderful to! And your not offending anyone!

Sounds like y'all had a scary day with your father in law. I'm glad to hear the ticker is back to ticking right. My step father had to have his heart shocked before too.

It's probably better not to be working during the holidays. It's your holiday back in the states and now you'll be able to enjoy it more with less stress. I always say I would rather paid time off during the holidays than a bonus. Time with family is important.

Oh goodness! I'm caught up on the posts but not the chatter and I miss the chatter! And everyone.

I'm so glad your FIL is ok but sad that the kids had to go through tooth yanking. On the job, things happen for a reason and I'd agree with everyone that it might be for the best. Most shops around here are open sunday (small ones closed mon) so that part doesn't surprise me at all.

Good luck to the kiddos on their belt testing tomorrow!

No, BAH-stun! :rotfl:
No, if they were going to have a HAY day, I would have to take pictures of FORKS instead........ :rolleyes1

Har-de- har-har.

Yes, privacy is a hot topic here, because it has been violated quite a lot in recent German history, not only by the Nazis, but also by the East German government which was spying on its citizens in a huge way!

I can see how that'd be a hot button around your country. I wonder what kind of legal challenges that'll be up against soon- if it isn't facing any now.

Arm flab is WAYYYY too common these days. I think the dead giveaway would be if you've shaved your feet recently..... :lmao:

I have!! Lucky you.

Ok, then PLEASE take a spoon - with a santa hat or mickey ears!!
smiley_emoticons_leckerer2.gif
Like others have flat people travelling with them!!

I think a picture of Rosie's face on it would be even funnier! :rotfl2:

Don't be too sad I didn't get the job- I'm not. Like someone else said, it's our first Christmas back, and we should make the most of it! I'm excited for my giaint dinner/dessert party- in fact, I'll be going down to Salem to start prelim. cleaning this weekend. Dad's having a hard time keeping up with that.

Q should be up VERY soon!

Hmmm, Liesa had Tate getting into all kinds of situations.......maybe I can do the same with a spoon. I guess I will have a contest to come up with an appropriate name for my travel companion over on my PTR....... :) Points for the winning entry! :thumbsup2

You have NO idea how much Tate got into trouble- Naughty, naughty Tater Boy/Girl.

:lmao: LOVE IT!

I am glad your FIL is Okay but as a CPR instructor something about that sentence just made my giggle a bit. Sorry. Just be glad they sedated him before they shocked him. If he has a hairy chest he may either be shaved or have burn marks.

Well, if he has HALF the amount of hair on his chest, as Marv and Glenn think I have on my feet, then he's in serious doo-doo. I happened to be in his room with him when he was ripping off the lead tapes, and I totally thought he was gonna go through the roof!! YOWZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for burn marks... I'm just not ready to take a peeky at an 80 year old's hairy chest. :scared1:

Sorry to hear about the job.

Don't be. Life is good.

The EPCOT tried to throw me off but then I saw not. I saw Park and the PJ's got me thinking about Peter Pan. So then it came down again to someone JUST recently having taken a picture of the sign. :thumbsup2 mom2sonstt (Tanya) got the very first point that way. :woohoo:

And yeah, duh. ;)

That is a bit :scared1:. Self defibrillation is not recommended.

That's exactly what I did when he told us!!:scared1:

I think your whole trip was like this, meeting new people and forging some wonderful friendships. :lovestruc

It was! I can't wait to get to the DC Meet soon!

I'm with you here Magdalene, I like a light wine. I like mine to be light and crisp. There are a couple of wines from Portugal that I really love. I think of this type of wine to be more a summer wine, and I love a good light Merlot for the winter. I'm not much for heavier wines, although I probably won't turn a glass down if it were offered.[/QUOTE]

Me too!! Light, and sweetish. But not too.

As for turning one down. Never. I was in Salem, as you know, and went over to visit my new neighbor, Mary agian. Being the wine expert she is (she teaches at a Community College here) offered me a tasting of 3 sparkling wines- one from Italy, one from Spain and one from just down the street from our neighborhood. YUM!

Ha!

NO, and to be honest, this may be the start of a decline. :confused3 I really think he needs a pacemaker- we talked to him this morning, and he is telling us it has been doign this a while. :scared1:

Sounds like y'all had a scary day with your father in law. I'm glad to hear the ticker is back to ticking right. My step father had to have his heart shocked before too.

It's probably better not to be working during the holidays. It's your holiday back in the states and now you'll be able to enjoy it more with less stress. I always say I would rather paid time off during the holidays than a bonus. Time with family is important.

It is rather shocking to hear about shocking. But I guess it's a pretty common procedure. :confused3 Glad it all turned out well at the end of the day.

You are so right. I don't HAVE to work, and this Christmas, being our first one back, is so important! THanks for the encouragement, Vanessa!! Good to be reminded about what's really important!

Chatter is fun, but so hard to keep up with all the time!

Their teeth are healing up nicely, but are still opting for the softer foods I offer. Another few days should do the trick!

I can totally see why a toy store would be open EVERY before Christmas ! BIG business time for them. It's just odd that I said I COULD work Sundays, just not a full day. :confused3

THey are sooooooooooooo nervous about their belt tests! I"m sure they will do fine, and pass with no problems, but it's all they can think about right now. Was Evan always this nervous?? (It IS Evan, right?)

A Quick Little Post: Nothing too lengthy or much,
But I wanted to share with you German souvies and such.

We came away with a few little things,
I see them each day, and a smile they bring.

Of course the best were not found in this stuff;
The photos and friendships were more than enough.

The first were the treasures given with thought
The last were the few little things that we bought.

Inside of this bag, all given in love,
Were things that were shown just there above.

The wee little pins in German say "Stop!"
And lotion I use when I'm ready to drop.

A special treat I'll bake up very soon,
Stirring these spices into cookies with MY wooden spoon.

Hand painted tin soldiers will make our tree bright
This little tin is Mikki's delight!!!

So your mother is German and your father Bolivian? Quite an international family! :goodvibes
I thought you would be the one to catch that one.:goodvibes
My dad was stationed in Germany when they met. I have a feeling that the union may have something to do with getting her out of Germany as the wall went up.

:confused3
Hotels and other public places have the thin stuff that breaks apart easily. For househols use you can buy in a range of thicknesses and up until a few years ago you could buy colors too.

I really did not mean to offend anyone by implying that Americans aren't great hosts! I think that's the problem about generalizations about another country's habits - you will always find the exception! And I am really glad to see that there are so many wonderful people here who are the exceptions! :goodvibes

here in the south it took me a while to realize "Come back now" was southern for " Thanks for your business" :rotfl:

Well, if he has HALF the amount of hair on his chest, as Marv and Glenn think I have on my feet, then he's in serious doo-doo. I happened to be in his room with him when he was ripping off the lead tapes, and I totally thought he was gonna go through the roof!! YOWZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for burn marks... I'm just not ready to take a peeky at an 80 year old's hairy chest. :scared1:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

So then it came down again to someone JUST recently having taken a picture of the sign. :thumbsup2 mom2sonstt (Tanya) got the very first point that way. :woohoo:

And yeah, duh. ;)

My sign confirmed it, the clues plus " think like Liesa" is what got me there instead of EPCOT.:lmao:

That's exactly what I did when he told us!!:scared1:

NO, and to be honest, this may be the start of a decline. :confused3 I really think he needs a pacemaker- we talked to him this morning, and he is telling us it has been doign this a while. :scared1:
They can put in a defibrillator. I hear it will just go off when needed. Sort of makes you stop in your tracks but it works. :thumbsup2

Great souvies from your trip
Seeing all the German things made me flip

I send out announcements to a Swim League in rhyme
when I have the time :)

No time to get to all the replies, but Glenn, I think the "B" is really an "S". Unless I'm totally cuckoo, and misunderstood what I think I was told once.

Mr McSpoon!!!!
Unfortunately I can't award you any points since this isn't on my thread, but a respectable effort. :thumbsup2
Aww... Magdalene you're wonderful to! And your not offending anyone!
I wasn't offended Magdelene. You are right that we have a lot of phrases here that don't strictly mean what the words say.
I think a picture of Rosie's face on it would be even funnier! :rotfl2:
Hmmm, not a bad idea that! ;)
A Quick Little Post:

FUB? Is that like NEET for feet??? Foot Unhairing Balm maybe???? :rolleyes1
