I often delay putting up a reply if I want to harra... er, I mean discuss several topics from an update.

J/K, I do enjoy your commentary a bunch; I do know that it takes a lot of extra effort (and time) to multiquote and think of something to say that is worth saying.

Well I don't know about everyone else in the US but when I say come and visit I mean come and visit! I love to host things, it's just that everyone I ask is always to busy with there lives to.

I never meant to imply that people were not being sincere - I think what I heard was more of a warning that there is kind of a general "you should come to see me" which is just a way of saying something nice. Just as many Germans would tend to take the question "How are you" seriously and possibly would tell a shop assistant what a horrible day they had. In my experience this question appears more to be a general greeting phrase than a real question.

On a side note people in the US I think have a hard time with strangers sitting next to them. It was a little weird for us at first when in Germany someone would just sit next to us. We quickly go used to that though.

Well, here we just sit next to strangers and ignore them... As you say, it is just a matter of what you are used to.

Definitely NOT trying to belittle your point, but I can honestly imagine there are quite a few of us on here who would receive such a warm welcome if any of our DISfamily homes were being visited by the others...

I would have loved to be at that gathering, even if relegated to sitting quietly in the corner and just drinking in the atmosphere. I can almost feel the warmth through your description.....

My parents actually were very strict about table manners when Katharina and I grew up and elbows were one thing they were really strict about!! Did you know that there is quite a differenc in table manners between the US and Euope - especially on how to use the fork, there is even a Wikipedia article about it!

What a fun, relaxing and enjoyable evening! We would all do well to have more evenings like this, and less gathered around the TV set!!!

There is even a long distance hiking trail through Franconia which goes from brewery to brewery, it is called the beer trail.

No problem! BTW toilett paper is another thing which is very different in Germany than in the US, it is thicker and softer here...

You forget that it also let us then have an EMPTY bag to stuff full of fun German souvenirs.

Well, it was a Riesling, but German Rieslings sold in Germany are different from those which are exported. We like the Riesling to be lighter and less heavy.

Thanks for explaining this and the article! This is the first thing I noticed how different everyone ate. I even tried to eat the same way so as not to stick out and you know what IT WAS HARD! Watching people eat I felt like a slob and wondered if everyone was watching me. Everyone ate so elegantly. My mom used to eat this way as well she grew up in a VERY German household, didn't learn english until she went to school. I oftened wondered why she ate that way now I know.

I should have had Dave take pictures of the TP! He did of every toilet he saw! I didn't even realize how many toilet pictures we had until we were home. What is it with men and toilets?

Well, sorry to be so terribly MIA lately; today was filled with way too much drama.

We got a call at 8:30 this morning from my DFIL telling us he was driving himself to the ER for a "heart thing".

Turned out it was an atral flutter. They tried some medication which "usually puts things back in order", but it didn't work. Twice. Soooooooooo... they had to sedate and shock him. He ended up being just fine, and in fact, took us out for dinner tonight for my DH's birthday, which was also today. Yeah, happy birthday, your dad's being electrocuted today.

In addition to this cratacular part of the day, I was also informed that I did not get the job. She went with the other 2 because they are more flexible on Sundays. Ah well. Really, I was totally, totally fine with it, and actually was a bit relieved because hosting 40 in your home is no easy piece of cake. I can now really give my 110% and feel good about spending time down in Salem decorating and cooking. In fact, during this whole "Dad thing" we had some really concrett discussions about various scenarios of us moving and it looks like it could be by the end of the year that we make our move. Soooooooooo.... exciting things happening, but I won't have the extra $400 for a trip like I thought I might.

Anyway, I will work on the letters right now.

I really wanted to catch up and comment on all the posts - but, alas, I am sooo tired and leaving for WDW in less than 5 hours..fearful I go to sleep will not wake in time to shower. We check into VWL tomorrow morning , then take the train home on Monday...will be back here Tuesday afternoon, but how the heck will I ever catch up after 5 days away.

Glad your FIL is doing OK. I'm not sure I would of been too happy with him driving himself with a heart problem. He took you out to dinner tonight too?

Tyler is getting his wisdoms out this Jan. before he goes back to school.
I'm hoping he'll have it done right after the New Year, that way I can make sure he's pretty much well healed before going back to school. I thought I was getting better about him being gone but lost it emotionally with him on the phone the other day when he called me to say he was heading back to school.
Mackie and I were out getting hair cuts and such and had to leave him at the house, he called on his way back to school to say goodbye and said to tell Mackie that he missed her and loved her, the water works really came on all of a sudden. I really wasn't expecting it. I'm such a sap.

Oh, Camille Sorry you had a sad day. Here I was yacking away on the phone about my stuff, and you had stuff going on. I have been there and can help if I would stop and listen! Looking forward to hugging you for real very soon!

Liesa, sounds like a crazy time for you! I know that you trust God to bring His will into everything. I'm sure the right position will come along for you.

Be diligent with the heart flutter. My grandma had that going on - they did lots of tests and never could figure it out - she died suddenly of a stroke.

18 yrs later, my dad has the same thing going on - lots of tests - yada yada He had as stroke! Guess what? If your heart is fast and slow, it can create clots and strokes. He has a pacemaker now and is on blood thinners. I can't help but think that Grandma could have lived alot longer - she was a spry 76 had someone been able to recognize what was going on.

Had to do a little celebratory dance! But to be honest, it was really pure luck that I got this letter. I think just as quite a few other people I discarded the Mad Tea Party after having found this picture of its sign:

But then I saw someone using the sign, which Liesa used, as their avatar... Still I am very happy for my point, thanks Liesa!

Good to hear that you have bit more clarity on how your live will move forward in the foreseeable future. And I can understand that this might not be the best time to have a new job besides all your entertaining and such. While I understand that people like to shop on Sundays, I think it is sad that you did not get the job because you had less flexibility with Sundays than others. Here in Germany shops are generally closed on Sundays and I think it is a good thing to give the people working there the chance to have one day totally off!

Sorry to hear about your father-in-law's trip to the ER, but glad he's doing better. And sorry about the job, but it's probably better to part ways now than to have issues over Sunday work later.

Even now, researching "Mad Tea Party sign" I can't find that particular sign. So, that's the way it goes...you live by web, you die by the web.

I only found it with looking for "mad tea party wdw sign wait times" on google pictures... and then it was on the second or third page. It was one of those things that are difficult to find on the web. And while I understand if you can't see it exactly the same way, isn't it great that some things are still elusive to internet research??

Liesa, I am so sorry to hear about all the drama you had yesterday. Glad your FIL is okay (the friend who lets us use his condo has been having heart problems and they did that exact same thing on him last Friday). How are the kids with the missing teeth doing?
