Hello Millie!
Thanksgiving in Germany is nothing like in America, here it is a very low key affair. There is a special service at church on sunday, but that's it. People, who don't attend a church, are not even aware of the event, I guess.
So I'll stay in Berlin and work on organizing the move, it is now scheduled for the 23rd!

That's to bad....but then again we American's will come up with just about any reason to have a holiday that gives us an excuse to eat like it's going out of style. :lmao:
Wow, that's right around the corner on the move, think you'll be packed and ready to go by then? I'm a procrastinator myself. I will get it done by the due date, but likely to put it off until the last minute. Like painting my daughters room today....I need to get off my duff and get it over with before the weather turns hotter where I can't have the windows open like we have them now. So what am I doing......sitting here and DISing like a good little DISer should.  Is it strange that I procrastinate with lots of things, but not when it comes to planning a trip to WDW? I can time everything that needs to get done before a trip better than any orgainizer I know...now to add that to my everyday life IN ALL AREAS!

You just won major points in my world! :rotfl: That photo is hilarious! Good one! :thumbsup2/QUOTE]

:woohoo: Extra bonus points for me!! :cool1:

We use that picture in the Dads club quite a bit. Probably because we talk about greasy food a lot.

Sounds about right.

Good Morning Liesa! I hope today will be less stressful and less dramatic for you! :flower3:

Hi Camille, that's very sweet of you to think of us! :goodvibes But our Thanksgiving is always the first Sunday in October, so it was last Sunday. It is much less of a family holiday than the American Thanksgiving. It is only celebrated in church as a way to say thanks for the plentiful harvest and besides a special service in church and an altar decorated with fruit and vegetables, there isn't much happening.

ETA: It took me four hours to send off this post because I had to rush off to a meeting - now Katharina was faster than me witht he explanation!

No worries Magdalene, your a busy lady!
 I think I'm thinking of our Canadian friends, their Thanksgiving is the 11th of this month, same day as Columbus day here. Happy belated Harvest Thanksgiving any way. :goodvibes
The way you celebrate it should be the way we celebrate it here, a service in church celebrating how the Lord has blessed us, how He's given so much to us all through the year.....then we can go home and eat ourselves silly.

In England we cal it Harvest Thanksgiving and it too is a Church holiday not a Big Holiday as here in the US!! I remember as a child taking a HUGE box of homegrown veggies to Church or school for the poor !!I was always soooo proud cuz my Dad had a huge Vegetable garden and my box was always the biggest!!!

I bet that was quite a sight Rosie! :goodvibes Do you celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday the American way, now that you live here?

Good, thank you! He's such a good baby, I'm really blessed. :goodvibes

Good to hear! I'm convinced it's God's way of reeling us in so we'll have more.

hmmmm:scratchin

would still prob eat it.

 Dan, you sound like my husband.

This reminds me of the picture below that I posted in my "flashback PChef TR" in my PTR.

Magdalene posted an explanation that this meant "have a good drive".

I totally remember that, and it gave me a "gut" laugh then too.

one judy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aloha, ladies! I lost internet access for five days when our router decided not to work anymore, so I'll be lurking until I catch up! Just wanted to say I am still here. :lmao:

So glad you are back!! When someone stays away too long, we all start to get a wee bit worried. Hope that router of yours gets you up to speed sooner than later!

Hmmm It's all good until the Civil War! :lmao:

IKWYM about the wind at the beach, I really don't do the ocean in the Spring. I don't like to be cold. Period. But we did try to camp at the beach for Memorial Day weekend once. We spent the whole weekend inside a pickup camper with 2 boys and a dog. Never again! August and Sept are wonderful at the coast though! :thumbsup2 It's good you chose the East side of the Cascades - more chance of Sunshine!

Honestly, we are not a sporty family AT ALL; couldn't even tell you when the next game is- nor the Civil War. We used to follow the Blazers back in the early 90s, when they were a classier act (YesCliveDrexler), but since we left, we just don't have the time or energy.

Just spoke to a new family we are getting to know (1st gen. Indian from Mumbai) and they had a really crappy day Saturday at Astoria. THey turned around and came back home due to the sand in their picnic. We do like Cannon Beach, but it's just so hit and miss.

The journey continues.... As a person who has used numerous a barf bag.... Sorry it was not an isolated event. Great details as always.

Me too!! Eventually it does get better for a BRIEF window of time. Stay tuned. I keep telling myself- Liesa, you should really try to make it less dramatic, but I just have to tell it the way it was. Warts and all.

No Fair I was at work !!!Glen is upposed to wait till I'm home for Judy pix !!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I seriously think he puts them up at random times, so we can never anticipate his next move. Which is actually a very good strategy.

Well, yes, but your TRs and PTRs are so popular, they grow in a month about as much as some on here do in a year......:)

Besides, I can have fun anywhere, even on Glenn and Dan's TRs! :lmao:
Sorry Kathy, but that picture you linked to in your answer, I'm looking but I don't see any Judy's. Looks like an immediate DQ to me! :sad2:
Rosie, you can still "taste?" Just askin'. :rolleyes1

I never know what to think about what's more popular- the TR itself or just everyone else that hangs out here. We just love to have fun- What can I say?

Yeah, what's up with Kathy's pic??? Doesn't show up on mine either. :confused3

I'm assuming you mean Niagara Falls? (Hello Rosie!) That is 5 hours west of Albany. Lake Placid is 3 hours north of me. It was a nice day. I went with Spencer's dad and he has a convertible - it was a fun ride.

After the "tasty" bun with melted cheese, the pastries must have looked like a slice of heaven!! :cloud9:

Oh no - I hope you aren't all going to fall ill one by one!!!

YEs, I meant Niagara Falls. Someday, I'd love to go back. I was there as a young child, and remember that helicopter ride over them. It was so totally wicked amazing!!

Ha, I hadn't realized that enormous compare and contrast exercise- bun vs. pastry. Kinda like Jekyll and Hyde!! :lmao: (sorry Dan!)

Nearly.

Oh Oh! another adventure? I hope the day didn't go as bad as it looks right now. I can't believe you left us hanging about the pastry! How will I get to sleep tonight?

Oh, and I'm excited that the planning of the West Coast meet is almost ready to commence!!!

Seemed like it never stopped on this trip. WE've had others like this- so it was nothing new. Just more of us, and in a place we had really looked forward to seeing.

We are almost ready to plan- just need to get dates worked on a bit, and the final ok from the Grand Pumbah.

:grouphug:

And I'll try to be here to read about west coast meet drama....but no promises :rotfl:

Not enough hours in the day sometimes. Pillow...you need a new pillow....and a mattress!

I almost added the "no promises" clause as well. THese days, internet time is just plain dicey.

I got a mem. foam one, but it did NOTHING. ZERO help at all. We need to bite the bullet and get a good mattress, but until we know where we're going to be, and if we end up with Mom and Dad's bed (size??) or not, we have to hold out. They are not cheap. (mattresses that is)

Oh no...I don't want a meet to be a source of contention for you in your home! :scared:
I'll be waiting on pins to find out if there is peace.

No, just need to tread carefully. IYKWIM...

How are you feeling about your move coming up in 2 weeks?? Do you feel ready-ish?

Your poor family. Once the stomach bug starts there's no stopping it. People drop like flies.

On a better note, I'll take one of each of the pastries. They look soooo gooood.

In this case, it was crumpled human beings. Weakness was the name of the game.

Good Morning Liesa !!Hope the Drama and the bed situation get better soon!!

They always do. Thanks!

I imagine they speak more of the after-effects of the greasy food more than the greasy food itself- which strikes a chord as that comes up now and again here too.

Hi Liesa, great to see your green light on, but I must leave the DIS now if I want to get a decent amount of sleep.... :guilty:

I'll bet it is beautiful!! They have a long-standing tradition in Kazakhstan of Saban Toi, or Harvest holiday, as well. Nowadays it is mostly practiced in churches, but traditionally is a time for families and neighbors to get together and share a big meal.

I love that it is used as another opportunity to bless others and practice charity! What better way to say thanks, than to share!!

Yes, that's what we call it as well: Erntedank which means harvest thanks. I loved the decorated church as a kid as well! For some time our family went on a church retreat every year for thanksgiving and I have very fond memories of that! :goodvibes

Church retreats are the bomb!! My kids have some amazing and wonderful memories from our many retreats with good friends. Late night campfires, songs, games, practical jokes, etc...

Look on the bright side. With all the kids you've had, at least it isn't a hiney-wiping day anymore! (well, except for the occasional personal one that is....) :lmao:

THANK GOD we are done with that!! And there wasnt' any of that with our last round of sickness either. No more noses either!!

Maroo, I can't remember if I commented on your costume, but I LOVE IT!!!!

And Liesa, I am dying to know which pastry. As nowadays, I am lucky to scarf down a bowl of cereal, never mind something so decadent as pastry. :lmao:

(ies) you mean. :lmao: Mmmm... I had a big bowl of Lucky CHarms the other day, and MAN, were they GOOD!!! Love me some marshmallow yummies! "They're magically delicious!"

Hey Liesa, did I miss it? Is there a letter D we have to guess?

You can call me D for DOOFUS!! I completely forgot about the letter of the day, so now I have another thing to work on- so watch closely. ;)

Hi Liesa, great to see your green light on, but I must leave the DIS now if I want to get a decent amount of sleep.... :guilty:

After a long day of catching up on house cleaning, I was finally able to catch a bit of online time. I am also trying to get a fall/autumn apron cut out an sewn today. I'm one of those geeky ones who still wears one...

I wear aprons as well for cooking! :yay: But don't have any ones themed to the seasons... :goodvibes

The house we moved into, which is stocked and maintained by our church for missionaries coming home for a spell, didn't have one. Fall is my favorite time of year as far as decorating and cooking go- so gotta enjoy it to the hilt with a themed apron. I'll post a picture when I'm done butchering the sewing of it.

Good to hear! I'm convinced it's God's way of reeling us in so we'll have more.

:rotfl2: That is so true. He's suckering us!

How long have you been stateside and already the pop culture references abound!

You Too?!? I have a Valentine one, but that's about as far as it goes for theme's, which is out of character for me, and then again it's not! :scratchin :rotfl: I'm all about decorating for the holidays, but then I'm also very practical.....incase you were wondering why I seemed like such a waffler. ;)

Can't wait to see it! It's my favorite time of the year for decorating and cooking also, I hate to admit it...but even more so than Christmas. :guilty:

:rotfl2: That is so true. He's suckering us!

Watch it! He really is. Jehovah sneaky I tell ya!

I should wear one, but I don't. :rolleyes1 I have seen some really cute ones though.

Hmmmm, we might have to take care of that!

nothin...that I know of!

IIIIII knooow what you'll be doiiiiing. :goodvibes :yay:

This is mostly for the guys out there....

Have any of y'all heard of the t.v. brand NEC?
The control freak in me....or maybe it's the research freak in me is a little unsettled with the fact my DH bought a t.v. that he knew nothing about from a close friend (for a good deal I might add) and I didn't have a chance to look anything up about it.
My DH is a brilliant man, but sometimes I like to do things before jumping into them, is anyone seeing the DISer coming out in me as you read this.
Since I don't seem to find much about this brand I'd thought I'd ask around.
Thank you. :)

Got mine cut out today. Now to find a working sewing machine.

I'm not a guy... and what's an NEC?? New Electric Crayons?? :confused3

OMGAWRSH!! You are NOT going to believe what I just did!!! Well, a little earlier...

I get this phone call at 6:00...

I had invited my DH's Aunt her BF, her son, and her 2 grandsons over for dinner, and somehow spaced it out. I completely, 100% thought (and even had it on my calendar written) that they were coming on Saturday night. :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

So 5 people show up at the door. The meat, by some amazing miracle, was purchased on Monday, but was frozen SOLID!!!!! I had already made sloppy joes for us, so that went back into the fridge, I whipped up a couscous salad, sent Bek to the store for bread (thank Heavens it is within walking distance), steamed a bunch of chard greens I had, and whipped up a huge batch of scalloped potatoes.

It was a good thing they brought 2 bottles of wine, because it was a lengthy happy hour we had while the potatoes cooked, the meat was zapped to thaw, and then grilled outside. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

See? D for DOOFUS!!!

Sounds like something I would do Liesa! :rotfl2: You did a great job of pulling it all together. Your brain is just going too many directions with all the new/old things you are dealing with!

I have calendar issues. REally, I do. At least right now. I'm not normally THIS doofed out, but this one really took me by surprise. Luckily we have a lot of Kazakh hospitality mind-set steeped inside of us. I put on a smile, and basically told them they have 2 choices... Drink wine for an hour and a half while dinner cooked OR go out. So glad they took choice A.
