The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

That is terrible that she couldn't get the home care she needed but she is lucky to have you.

Well we sort of breached the contract. We had an important business meeting that took place outside of Las Vegas. Other than having holes in her leg, she felt up to attending and it was good we did (in a way). But with home health you must be home bound so after that they dropped her.

I know many people who would not have the stomach to do that!

When she first started wound care, I couldn't even go to the initial appointment. I went to the second one and almost passed out, but by the end of two years, I was right in there watching them put little foreskins in to aid the healing process!

We use hydrofera blue pretty much every day on the nursing unit I work on and I had somebody debating with me about the proper use of it so I decided to do my own research and it turns out that I was correct.

I have no idea what it did, I just followed the instructions they gave me on wound care.

Sorry to hijack Liesa!

I'll let you all know tomorrow around 9:30 PST how Exam #2 goes. Thanks for any prayers you can send up for me!!

Dang! Missed wishing you good luck, but...

Have a long day yet, but am happy to report I got the same acceptable score of 89%! Read 2 of them wrong and feel like a doofus, but will "get over it" and move on. ;) Happy day!!

I see you managed quite well on your own.
Way to go!
That light is getting brighter!

And until I get to a keyboard and take a few hours off....

Making the best use of kids' appointments.

Well... sure. That's what they're for.

I don't remember where I saw you post it (maybe on my thread) but you mentioned that you might like to do one of the tastings during F&W. I've never done one of the tastings at the Festival Center, the ones that run around $10pp. I'm not sure if that was what you were talking about. But I have done the Tequila Lunch (I know that is no big surprise to you!) and the French Regional Lunch. I thought both were quite a great deal and very well done. Here are some links to those tastings in my Trip Reports from almost three years ago. Oh yeah, and the Grand Marnier Tasting too!

One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila, Floor

Grand Marnier, Part 1
Grand Marnier, Part 2

Pink Champagne

I'm not sure how many of the events described here are still offered. I haven't paid attention to the events for the past two years since I wasn't going, but I know they have a few new ones. I think the French Regional lunch is now a Parisian Breakfast with Champagne. I'll have to catch up on things since we're going again this year!

Sadly, when I clicked on these 4 links, they all came up blank. :( I wonder why...? They highlight as links, but the page is completely blank? Maybe if you just copy and paste a URL it might work. Nevertheless, I will definitely take a peek at the offerings from THIS year and see what prices I can expect.

I can assume kids wouldn't be welcome (older teens) to one of these. They are very used to having upscale meals and are quiet, but what do you think??

This is a very busy PTR! Don't know if I'll remember what to comment on

You did quite well. And yes, it CAN be a busy thread! It seems to come and go in spurts when I have time to be here and give adequate replies in a timely manner. Tonight is definitely one of those nights. I am SO exhausted! So much that for the first time ever since starting I'm not sure if I will physically make it. My heart is palpitating and I've been short of breath for days. The stress and anxiety is definitely catching up to me. Time to take an evening off and DIS to ease the stress and take my mind off of things.

First of all, this sounds good. Haven't had anything Amaretto in years. Can always find rum tasty.
Don't really keep much of anything around the house to make drinks. Might have to find a way to get some small bottles : )

Small bottles for the win!!!! Just enough and not too terribly expensive. Great for the occasional nightcap. :)

WOW! That makes it sound so close. Better get my act together!

Yes!! You need to start getting some thoughts down on paper; it'll be here before we know it!!!

Done that! After work, stop by "our bar" (met hubby there, lots of friends, like our Cheers, sadly closed now) and end up passing out there! Next door was a fire station and the EMTs came to check on me and took me to ER. I had come to, but being wheeled out on a gurney from a BAR was quite embarrassing! Figured out that not eating much that day and taking a "diet" pill (bad idea/never again) made me light headed.

OH boy! Yeah, that'd look a little sketch, but the story is kinda funny now. In hindsight. And yeah, you probably had some electrolyte imbalances going on from the fasting and extra "boost". Glad it all turned out ok, and it turned out to be relatively minor.

:woohoo::banana:First try deserves a few moves

:dancer: Always room for dance moves!

Your hard work is so going to be worth it. :goodvibes Hope the good vibes last the rest of the year with a little pixiedust: added in!

So far, so good! 2 Exams down, 3 (and a Final) to go. The light is getting brighter at the end of that long tunnel!

Hello! I have a big life update and an update - come and visit me! http://disboards.com/threads/blizza...ate-pg-13-epcot-pg-13-1-24-16.3409801/page-13

Thanks for the heads up!! I only have about 1 evening a week to KIND OF be here and even then, I have a hard time reading all I want to.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: for a new grandson! So, SO super exciting for you and the WHOLE family. :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Yeah. Here you find things like venison.. and alligator.. and squirrel!

YUM!! I've eaten some pretty darned weird stuff: rattlesnake, pretty much every organ of a sheep, snails, and some other bizarre Central Asian stuff, but squirrel? No. My grandparents are from the Ozarks and told stories of either making their shot on a squirrel or simply not eating. We are so very blessed.

Yes she found some prices she's happy with. I think she wants to wair till jet blue and Southwest release their schedules to see if they might work better time wise. Right now she's looking at either leaving like stupid latr on a Monday to be there early Tuesday morning or early Tuesday to be there midday Tuesday.

I probably should have waited too, but was too ansty and just wanted stuff paid for. In the end, I do like that we ended up with Red-Eyes so we can have a "bonus day" even if we are napping. Cuz napping on a Disney bed with a pool outside the door is pretty cool.

And it'll keep. We have plenty of time for PTRs haha. 277 on my timer today!

257 today on mine! So exciting!!

That is a loooong time to study.
I remember those days.

I don't think I actually know, or maybe I did and just need to hear it again.... what is your degree in? (Sorry, if I"m just being a forgetful knucklehead.)

I had to read that at 9:50pm... I leave for work in 10 minutes!

Oooh, so sorry! That must've stunk! I may get nights for Preceptorship; I'm no stranger to nights, and they suck. Big time.

That's almost never a problem for me.
And I never forget my locker combo.

I"m so glad!

But the question is: Do you HAVE a work locker?

Where's the fun in THAT???

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Yeah... not a fun nightmare. And 9 hours of studying???? :faint:

Good luck!

Thanks, Andy!

I think I put in approxmately 120 hours in the last 2 weeks on that exam. 60 each week. That does include the lectures, but not Clinical time; just on the content for the theory.

Thanks for providing a time. I will think of you at 6:30pm my time! All the best for your exam!

You're welcome! And thank you for thinking of me! It's always encouraging to know I have people standing beside me!

Wishing you the best of luck!

I was just being nerdy and watched a video on the use of hydrofera blue in pressure ulcer wound care. Have you seen that used in your placements? It is wonderful stuff.

Thanks, Lessa!

I have not heard of that. But will look in into it. At work, we use a lot of Allevyn, Calcium alginate, Opsite for occlusives.... the usual. Silvadene here and there. The Hydrofera looks pretty cool! I'll ask around and see if we can get a rep to come and present on it!

Good luck!

Good luck!

Good luck with the exam. I am sure you will do good on this one.

Thanks Everyone!! I managed to pull of another pretty decent score, and while I absolutely can not coast, it sets my mind at ease that with whatever I"m doing right now, is what works. The hardest part of school sometimes is figuring out WHAT it is they expect.

Congratulations!!!

Thanks, Andy!! Again. :) I knew this'd be stinkin' hard, but WOW. So. Much. Work! (And a bit of added drama into the mix. Can't comment too much, but a bit of legal junk is cropping up.)

I even know what this is! My partner had venous ulcers on her leg and required dressing changes daily. For whatever reason Home Health wouldn't come out so I had to do it on the off days. After cleaning the wound with that water solution I would have to cut the hydfera blue pieces to fit the wound and then dress it with IBD pads and gauze. Fun times!

Wound care is fascinating! NEVER fun for the client/patient, but when bone, tendons and what not are exposed the Wound Care Team is there to see healing results. I've gotten to be part of a LOT of dressing changes and am only just now feeling like I'm starting to scratch the surface in products and techniques. Cool stuff!

 :yay:

You are rockin' this out of the park! You are going to make one heck of a nurse. If I were to ever get sick, I would want you on my care team!

Thanks, Alison!! Every one I can knock off the long (but getting shorter) list, the closer I am to being DONE! (Well, with school anyway; I know that a nurse has to be a lifelong learner because the field changes so quickly!)

Woot Woot! Great job!

Congrats!

Thanks, Friends!!! WOOHOO!

Woohoo! So, 89 is the new 88? I guess you can live with that! How many more exams to go?

I can totally live with 89%!! And yeah, so odd that I seem to be so consistent. There are 3 more exams like today's, and then a Comprehensive Final. Next term there are no exams like this. It is run very differently than all the previous terms we've endured.

Well we sort of breached the contract. We had an important business meeting that took place outside of Las Vegas. Other than having holes in her leg, she felt up to attending and it was good we did (in a way). But with home health you must be home bound so after that they dropped her.

Yes, the rules for HH are pretty stringent and the top thing is being homebound. Glad she healed up! Some stasis wounds are extremely difficult to get healed up no matter WHAT is done.

I have no idea what it did, I just followed the instructions they gave me on wound care.

Sorry to hijack Liesa!

You are always welcome to hijack, add to the discussion and make yourself at home here! THat's what makes the DIS a great place to be! :):grouphug: Always new topics and even some Disney (at least on this thread... LOL! Yes, I MIGHT get an update up tonight or tomorrow. ;) ) make it interesting to read.

Woohoo! Great job!!! :flower1:

Thank you so much, Dayna!

Dang! Missed wishing you good luck, but...

It's ok, I know you were sleeping off a work shift.

I see you managed quite well on your own.
Way to go!
That light is getting brighter!

Inch by inch. Each one feels like an eternity though. If you didn't read my response to Andy back there, this whole thing really is starting to take a bit of a toll physically. For a couple of days I've had quite a bit of shortness of breath and some heart palpitations. The stress is very real, my friend. I know it's only anxiety, and should probably get a Beta Blocker, but I don't have time to go in, and I keep telling myself it'll all be over in a few weeks. Meantime, adding to the stress is some legal junk that's come up (not personal) that I'm doing my best to avoid, but may have to become involved in in the end.

Well... sure. That's what they're for.

That's a tiny fraction. My tiny brain can't hold much more.

I have a BSc, but that wasn't what I was referring to. That was relatively easy.
I studied very similar hours to what you described when I was studying for my job.
But mine was only about a year of it.

Oooh, so sorry! That must've stunk! I may get nights for Preceptorship; I'm no stranger to nights, and they suck. Big time.

Yes. Yes they do.
And preceptorship. No idea what that is... hang on. Going to visit Google for a sec... okay, got it.

I thought it was something that Harry Potter would do.
"All right, Harry." Said in an English accent. "You've mastered potions and defence against the dark arts, but now you must master preceptorship. It is the defining skill of a true wizard."

But the question is: Do you HAVE a work locker?

As a matter of fact, I do.

It's ok, I know you were sleeping off a work shift.

::yes::

Plus desperately trying to get that last update posted took quite a bit of time.
Which means I'm behind... well, everywhere.

this whole thing really is starting to take a bit of a toll physically. For a couple of days I've had quite a bit of shortness of breath and some heart palpitations. The stress is very real, my friend.

Oh, I believe you.

Deep breaths. You can do it. Deep breaths.

I know it's only anxiety, and should probably get a Beta Blocker, but I don't have time to go in, and I keep telling myself it'll all be over in a few weeks.

You're probably already doing it, but lean on your family for support.
And if you're not. Tell them you need it!

Meantime, adding to the stress is some legal junk that's come up (not personal) that I'm doing my best to avoid, but may have to become involved in in the end.

Uh, huh. Because you need more on your plate.

That's a tiny fraction. My tiny brain can't hold much more.

If you hear a "pop" sound... that's your brain, exploding.

I've never actually had squirrel....they I know of but the others are tasty. Squirrel is on our those you have to be starving or love it thing. There's barely any meat and a pain to clean or so says my father in law.

Yes napping by the Disney pool is always better. My days may be shifting a bit as well. So maybe one less regular day till I get to Disney haha! Count shows 274 today, but I woneed change it until I have a for sure on the move up.

But mine was only about a year of it.

I guess specializing is a tough road. My first BS was easy-peasy- never studied even close to the extent I am now. I really don't even know HOW the young moms or single moms who are still in the program do it. Most were gone a long time ago.

Yes. Yes they do.
And preceptorship. No idea what that is... hang on. Going to visit Google for a sec... okay, got it.

"All right, Harry." Said in an English accent. "You've mastered potions and defence against the dark arts, but now you must master preceptorship. It is the defining skill of a true wizard."

And now I should probably get a wand to get me through next term.

As a matter of fact, I do.

I do too. Been empty since last summer. Use yours?

Plus desperately trying to get that last update posted took quite a bit of time.
Which means I'm behind... well, everywhere.

Updates tend to do that. And we all get behind most of the time. Oddly, we all tend to catch back up to some degree as well.

Oh, I believe you.

Deep breaths. You can do it. Deep breaths.

I"m going in tomorrow at 11:00. Hopefully, I can get a short-term fix for what I hope to God is a short-term problem. Between the caffeine, anxiety, lack of sleep, sitting on my butt for 14 hours a day most days, stress, hit and miss eating.... yeah. Ihope Nursing School didn't end up killing me slowly.

You're probably already doing it, but lean on your family for support.
And if you're not. Tell them you need it!

They are REALLY supportive and put up with a lot. They are no strangers to ridiculously random and inappropriate emotional outbursts, lack of food choices, and a harsh lack of presence. They usually give me a pass, a hug, or a wide berth.

Uh, huh. Because you need more on your plate.

I need more pie.

If you hear a "pop" sound... that's your brain, exploding.

You make it sound like a pimple.

Great news on the exam!!!!

Now hopefully those health problems you are having are being taken care of.

I don't know how a single parent could possibly do it.
I was like... "Ruby? Going to lock the door here. See you next week."

And now I should probably get a wand to get me through next term.

That sucks, because I know where you can get one... but you're going there after you graduate.

I do too. Been empty since last summer. Use yours?

Not much.
I keep my cup and my hot chocolate in there. Which I don't drink much of. Or a six pack of coke.
I use it... oh, maybe a couple of times a week. Maybe less some times.
It's just sort of... there.

Just take care of yourself, okay? Please?

They are REALLY supportive and put up with a lot.

Good!!

They are no strangers to ridiculously random and inappropriate emotional outbursts, lack of food choices, and a harsh lack of presence. They usually give me a pass, a hug, or a wide berth.

Sounds like they're doing it right.

I need more pie.

 Did you say.... PIE??????? :faint:

You make it sound like a pimple.

:lmao:

I've never actually had squirrel....they I know of but the others are tasty. Squirrel is on our those you have to be starving or love it thing. There's barely any meat and a pain to clean or so says my father in law.

I'd believe it. My hubby had guinnea pig when we lived in Ecuador and thought it disgusting, like greasy fish. And there wasn't much there. I was glad I didn't go to the coast with him that week.

Yes napping by the Disney pool is always better. My days may be shifting a bit as well. So maybe one less regular day till I get to Disney haha! Count shows 274 today, but I woneed change it until I have a for sure on the move up.

I'll be watching and waiting for any changes. It's all so exciting!!

Just here for a quick drive by to say you're awesome!!:flower::daisy::flower1:

Awww, so much thank you going on! Very sweet of you. I don't know about awesome; I just wanna pass so badly, so I study my little old buns off. Because failing out is NOT an option. Nor is being an unsafe nurse. Being awesome is the ONLY option. LOL!
