The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

OK, are the links again without the fancy DIS coding. I will be back to comment on the V update, but it might be later. I'm tired and might not have the most "enlightened" comments.

This is the link to the Tequila lunch

And then the French Regional Lunch. I'm not sure they offer this anymore.
http://www.disboards.com/threads/re...k-to-new-ptr-tr.3104038/page-71#post-50309853

Hopefully these links will work for you. These events were between $45 & $99 I think (the French Lunch was $99 and I think the GM was $45. Don't remember what the tequila lunch was, but we thought they were all a decent value considering Disney and all. We got a fair amount of alcohol at all of them)

However, this will be the last full day at this fantastical lodge, for today is the day, 244 days from now to be exact, that we'll be spending our last day in Walt's Kingdom.

Well, technically Walt's Kingdom is back in Anaheim, this is more Roy's Kingdom, but I know what you mean.

Close your eyes, imagine standing on a veranda with soft African drums rhythmically drawing you away from the cares of everyday life, inviting you to another world filled with zebras, giraffes, and long-horned antelope on the savannahs of East Africa.

Don't have to, I've done it before, it's awesome! :thumbsup2

Today's agenda is simple with few things on it that we must accomplish. See... it takes 10 days to finally feel like we're actually vacationing

I think by 10 days, we are even starting to get homesick and missing our kitties. For me it starts to hit vacation time around day 3 or 4, but sometimes, I still can't lose the "need to do everything" as you will see on this last trip.

So we'll start at EPCOT and take one last stroll around one of my favorite places on earth- World Showcase. Yes, I have my 1 adult beverage chosen, but that's for another post, as well as my snack choice of the day- again, a whole post of those coming up... (stay tuned).

Cool. Staying tuned, I'm looking forward to hearing about your choices.

Because it also seems appropriate to end our stay with a view of the castle, some happy dancing and cheesy grinning to the MSEP music/parade, and a few night time spins on the mountains.

Makes sense!

Honestly, if I were to be forced to make that choice today, I'd go with Ray's because I think we'd all like the no pressure to be somewhere vibe.

Funny when I think Ray's I think Burgers and toppings bar.

On a ridiculously happy note, I called Chase today to have a Happy Card sent to me today loaded with $200 of Disney Bucks.

Remember, I asked you to guess what that was a couple of weeks ago? A few of you did guess correctly- a dinner at Vic and Al's!!!

I think I was one them! :yay:

So, now, the call goes out... is there anyone who'd like to join me for a night of extravagant indulgence?

Well I would love to, if you weren't leaving the day before we arrive. :rolleyes1 On March 16, I need to be in Los Angeles, playing a concert which is why my trip starts on the 18th. :sad2:

Find one of your OWN 'V' pictures to post. I dare you. I mean a Disney picture. ;)

How's this?

Letter V finds our intrepid group of travelers waking up once more in a Lodge- a very, Very big, beautiful, African-themed lodge belonging to a Kingdom of Animals. No, no, I don't mean my family; I mean the ones that live outside.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: It's ok, you can admit it. Sometimes it's the family too.

One does not pay over $250 a night and just not enjoy it, right?

::yes::::yes::

Regardless, I want to end my vacation with my last memory being of the scent of chocolate chip cookies and popcorn on Main Street, of bunches of balloons bobbing along the sidewalk, and the Happy Announcer Guy saying goodnight to me.

You could do much, much worse. Can I end every day that way?

On a ridiculously happy note, I called Chase today to have a Happy Card sent to me today loaded with $200 of Disney Bucks. People! Do you realize that will MORE than take care of an entire day's food?

Wonderful, isn't it! Julie and I kept saying that we gave ourselves Free Dining.

So, now, the call goes out... is there anyone who'd like to join me for a night of extravagant indulgence?

Somehow, I don't think I'd be the best company for this meal. "You want me to eat WHAT??":rotfl:

Mike would absolutely not think this was remotely fun, and cite it as a gigantic waste of money. Oh well, his loss.

I wish I was going, so I could keep Mike company at the BBQ. :thumbsup2

CHALLENGE: Find one of your OWN 'V' pictures to post. I dare you. I mean a Disney picture. ;)

Well, let me see...

This has a V in it.

IMG_1392.JPG

Or I could go with a Victory...

IMG_1958.JPG

Or a Victorian hotel...

IMG_2006.JPG

But I think Voices of Liberty makes the most sense, don't you?

IMG_1490.JPG

You're right... V pictures are hard. The only thing I can think of that I have would be stealing Alison's Vader or Mark's Victory.

I like your laid back approach for your last day. I think I'd definitely want to just do quick service on that last evening so that you don't have to worry about being at any set place at a certain time.

Victoria and Albert's should be a nice evening. Maybe you should see if you can get chef's table if you have enough takers on your offer!

There is more to a Disney vacation than the Parks, no?

There totally is...but sadly..you spend so much on those dang park tickets you usually feel like you do have to be in the parks all the time...

See... it takes 10 days to finally feel like we're actually vacationing with no pressing itinerary, no pressure to blitz through or get uptight about.

This is what I'm talking about...I would so love a 10 day vacay there...enough for resort time and park time and down time and DS time and lots of different restaurants time....sigh...ONE DAY!!

Looking forward to hearing about your drink and snack choices :)

Saturdays are usually Mama meltdown day since the DDs tend to make it "I'm not doing my chores all day" day.

I get that too. "But, Moooooooo-ooom, it's our only day off..." Pffffft. There are no such things. At least entirely.

What's wrong with a tent, girl? Hmm? Why not start off with a nice tent? You don't have to go leaping straight for the Super 8 like a bull at a gate.

Tents, specifically yurts, are NASTY! I've been in plenty of those flea-ridden, dirt-floored, hot, sweaty gross tents. So, you know, better I guess than a Super 8.

Oh, no. I'd say our/my park time was only around... oh... 100%.

That was my 2 trips ago. Last trip I discovered the light. Long trips are bliss. Oh, don't get me wrong, there'll still be PLENTY of park time. I just wondered why you cut yourself short at only 100%?

I did.
It rattled along the top of the table until it finally fell off.

Yeah, that'd be an ambiance killer for sure.

Now you tell me!

Timing is everything.

I'm all you need.

Ah, a TR for two. Sorry, I like you a lot Ponzi, but well, you know as well as I do, in TR-land, the more the merrier.

Paper. Stained. But sure!

But I could get it framed!

Ya mean it?

Venice. Yes, it was ahhhh. for the first day... then it changed to aaaggghhh!!

Sounds like that's been written about... link me.

I'm here to serve...

.... veal.

You know just what makes a girl's heart happy.

Only a few and for me they all have Disney in the name. :rolleyes1

A Soul Sister!

Yup it takes that long to get into a groove to BE on vacation and then bam its over. :sad2: But longer then re-entry is really bumpy.

I think the time in the Keys will help us transition, and if that doesn't, my son's wedding and dealing with her parents will.

Cosmic Ray's is a good choice. Lots of food and entertainment

Anxious to check it out! I like a good thumb's up.

Nice. My VISA Disney Bucks paid for La Nouba last trip..:cool1:

If I wasn't so selfish I'd treat my kids to that. Then again, I don't know many people who will pony up for a stay at AKL either.

Yes I may not responded but I knew that.

You is smart...!

Hmmmm Interesting.I am sure they can deal with my long list of exceptions. Will have to think about that and discuss.

Let's talk!

Well we still have W,X,Y and Z in this round. Hope your weekend was happy although it sounds not so much. :scratchin

Not so much; I'm approaching mid-term and it's INSANELY busy and STREEEEEESSSSSFUL!! I had Clinical yesterday, spent 10 hours writing a paper today, have lecture tomorrow and Thursday, SIM Lab with the talking mannikin patients where they throw all kinds of scary crap at you, a LOOOOOONG weekend of study for my Wednesday exam. I'm so freaking exhausted.

Now of course I need to go look. Until I get distracted....

HAHA, my life.

Thanks, Alison!! I read them all as I went to sleep last night! Thank you SO much! I'm not sure I'll end up splurging, but they do look fun. If I were to choose a favorite, I'd have to go with the Mexican/Tequila one. I love some GOOD, aged Anejo! And the pairings looked awesome!

Done. 50% of the profits. Oh, yeah...

Even splitting we'll be rich, rich, RICH! LOL!

Well, technically Walt's Kingdom is back in Anaheim, this is more Roy's Kingdom, but I know what you mean.

I thought EPCOT was Walt's Dream Resort concept? I know Roy had a big hand in it all; time for more research. After school.

Don't have to, I've done it before, it's awesome! :thumbsup2

I can't wait to join the ranks of those who "get it".

I think by 10 days, we are even starting to get homesick and missing our kitties. For me it starts to hit vacation time around day 3 or 4, but sometimes, I still can't lose the "need to do everything" as you will see on this last trip.

I think after the last few years of busting my butt and having really no REAL breaks (only camping, except for my Kentucky trip) I'll need that LONG vacation to wind down. But yeah, hopefully with a new job that pays decently I can afford short trips down to DLR- long weekends and such.

Cool. Staying tuned, I'm looking forward to hearing about your choices.

Yay! Another diehard!

Funny when I think Ray's I think Burgers and toppings bar.

And when I think of Burgers and toppings bar I think of Pecos Bills. May that ever rest in peace. SMH

I think I was one them! :yay:

Yes. Yes you were!!! Good job! (I think you know I"m a foodie of sorts from replies on your yummy threads!)

Well I would love to, if you weren't leaving the day before we arrive. :rolleyes1 On March 16, I need to be in Los Angeles, playing a concert which is why my trip starts on the 18th. :sad2:

I think I'd read that over on your thread at some point. I'm looking forward to at least saying hello and getting whatever time we can swing in.... Plenty of planning time ahead.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: It's ok, you can admit it. Sometimes it's the family too.

From one large, crazy family to another: Ok, fine. It's usually us.

You could do much, much worse. Can I end every day that way?

Well, no. You can't. Even if you wanted to, Disney won't let you live there. Although, I've often contemplated where I'd hide if I ever wanted to go "homeless" there.

Wonderful, isn't it! Julie and I kept saying that we gave ourselves Free Dining.

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: Yeah, I suppose we gotta eat, and since all the groceries, gas, and pretty much EVERYTHING else (except what Mike buys on his REI card) we will "eat for free". Well, I will anyway. :lmao:

Somehow, I don't think I'd be the best company for this meal. "You want me to eat WHAT??":rotfl:
I hope it's more and better than deconstructed normal stuff put on a fancy plate with a sauce smear.
Fine-dining-in-McDonalds-restaurant.jpg

I wish I was going, so I could keep Mike company at the BBQ. :thumbsup2

You'd be in good company. Loves him BBQ. Afterwards you can manbond by flossing together.

You're right... V pictures are hard. The only thing I can think of that I have would be stealing Alison's Vader or Mark's Victory.

I was rather stumped too, but am sad I didn't think of some of those. I have most, but not Vader. Voices was a DUH!

I like your laid back approach for your last day. I think I'd definitely want to just do quick service on that last evening so that you don't have to worry about being at any set place at a certain time.

Since we'll have had so many sit-downs, I think it'll really hit the spot.

Victoria and Albert's should be a nice evening. Maybe you should see if you can get chef's table if you have enough takers on your offer!

I'll wait to see who takes the bait. I know Chef's is REALLY hard to get, but it might be worth a try! I won't be doing the wine pairing for sure. OUCH!

There totally is...but sadly..you spend so much on those dang park tickets you usually feel like you do have to be in the parks all the time...

That is very true. And it only gets worse every darn year.

This is what I'm talking about...I would so love a 10 day vacay there...enough for resort time and park time and down time and DS time and lots of different restaurants time....sigh...ONE DAY!!

You'll get there someday. One way to make it a LOT more affordable is to go on a Ladies' trip and split the resort room 4 ways. Then you can stay a little longer and just relax.

Looking forward to hearing about your drink and snack choices :)

YUS!!! Another hanger-on-er for this long, drawn out, PTR! Thanks for being here, Kathy!

My amazing DIS-sies! It's that point in the Term where things are ridiculously busy and insanely stressful! I will try to make it to all of your threads, but it may take a few days- maybe not until next week after the Exam. I've had pretty much ZERO time to study for that exam, and won't get any until Friday evening. Meantime, the single most icky day is Friday when I have SIM Lab. I'd take a 100 exams over that. I DON'T like being "on stage" and my usually quick thinking brain goes on OFF mode due to "stage fright".

I'll check in here and there, but meantime, just taking each day at time.

Steppe

I get that too. "But, Moooooooo-ooom, it's our only day off..." Pffffft. There are no such things. At least entirely.

You want a day off??? Get a job!!

Except now DD18 has a job, so it's You don't want to pay rent???

Tents, specifically yurts, are NASTY! I've been in plenty of those flea-ridden, dirt-floored, hot, sweaty gross tents. So, you know, better I guess than a Super 8.

Nope. Modern floor included tent.
(Still would take the Super 8 too)

That was my 2 trips ago. Last trip I discovered the light. Long trips are bliss. Oh, don't get me wrong, there'll still be PLENTY of park time. I just wondered why you cut yourself short at only 100%?

Stupid parks close at night.
What's with that?!?!?

Ah, a TR for two. Sorry, I like you a lot Ponzi, but well, you know as well as I do, in TR-land, the more the merrier.

I concur 100%.

But I could get it framed!

Oh, well. In that case. By all means, go ahead.

Ya mean it?

Even though I'm not a citizen of your country.... I'll take the 5th.

Sounds like that's been written about... link me.

In my siggie. But here ya go:
Canadian Buffoon European Vacation
Links are broken, though. (Must fix those one of these days.)

You know just what makes a girl's heart happy.

But of course I do.

Good luck with the SIM Lab. Take a deep breath. Imagine them all as Mickey... in nothing but underwear.

I thought EPCOT was Walt's Dream Resort concept? I know Roy had a big hand in it all; time for more research. After school.

Actually his "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" was supposed to be an actual working city. I'll try to find a link to a TR I did on a D23 event where they talked about it in great detail. When Walt died no one had any idea what Epcot was supposed to be about, but it wasn't supposed to be a theme park.

I think after the last few years of busting my butt and having really no REAL breaks (only camping, except for my Kentucky trip) I'll need that LONG vacation to wind down. But yeah, hopefully with a new job that pays decently I can afford short trips down to DLR- long weekends and such.

OK. That makes sense. Now I remember when I didn't have vacations for six years. We had stressful times and that was my first 10 day trip in 2007. I'm pretty sure I could have stayed longer under those circumstances.

I think I'd read that over on your thread at some point. I'm looking forward to at least saying hello and getting whatever time we can s

I realized after reading my quoted post I said March 16 when I meant October 16. The March Concert is on the 6th, Fall concert falls right at the tail end of your trip. We pretty much plan our trips so that we don't miss the concerts.

I was wondering if you were thinking V&A for your treat! Or one of the really pricey food and wine things.

You talk about your last day in Disney like I talk about my first! It's just not disney to me till I walk down main street USA and see the balloons and the castle and smell the candy bring made and the popcorn popping.

The nostalgia. The plan for our adult night has been to do Cali Grill and watch wishes.. but since I think Sunday the 6th will be a Christmas party my last shot to watch wishes for the trip will be Saturday the 5th at our dinner.. so I've made the decision that we are going to eat early and go have some adult MK time. Then watch wishes arm in arm in front of the castle where it should be watched :))))

You'll get there someday. One way to make it a LOT more affordable is to go on a Ladies' trip and split the resort room 4 ways. Then you can stay a little longer and just relax.

Funny how I never think of that. My next fantasy Dis trip is solo, mainly so I can concentrate on doing what *I* want to do, and not trying to make sure everyone else is entertained and happy. So, the room would be the most expensive part of that. I still think my ideal WDW trip would be solo, but with DISmeets for a couple TS meals. I have about 5-6 days worth of stuff on my wish list...

You'll do great! SIM lab pixie dust! :tinker:

Also, I was going through Chemo in 1987-1988. I believe the Hickman was the only thing developed at that time. They have made some great advancements on how these are done now. Having those tubes hanging out and not being able to submerse in water for 1 1/2 years or longer. Nope. Not happening.
I know this is a ways back in the report but that's because I'm a little behind in my report reading (sorry)...this conversation (and your subsequent story) is so interesting to me partly because of the differences a couple years makes in medical care which all seems so old school to what's available today. In 91, I was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 13. I did have the internal portacath then. A lot of similar and parallel type experiences I'm sure -- remission, re-diagnosis, BMT and the subsequent life long effects of that darn radiation (fibrous lungs, kidney failure, wimpy immune system, more cancer). But as you've shown, attitude and faith is everything so still chugging along at 37, being thankful for each day.

Rooting for you Steppesister as you work towards your goal--nurses are great!
