The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

Two pies are > one pie. But Two pi R is the circumference of a pie.

Is this like one triangle equals another Triangle, I told my Math Teacher I did't care , she said I would need this knowledge at some point in my life . I hope she is right cuz I haven't needed it yet !! :rotfl2: and what Pi had to do with math I never knew , I like to eat my pie NOT prove it !!!:rotfl2:

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Before things go downhill even more, I'll say good night. Hoping to get some beachy pix tomorrow and just relax a bit. :artist:

PS - I'll take the pie r squared.
I could handle square pie especially Strawberry pie pie

Sounds nice. I hope to sleep tomorrow, but guessing the puppy might say otherwise.

I don't care if it's square, round, or rhomboid. I just want pie.

Night Liesa. I've still got another five and a half hours to go.

You crack me up !!:rotfl2:

Oh Liesa, I'm sure you were keenly aware of the possibilities you could be confronted with when you chose to pursue the Nursing path, but I know facing the harsh realities so soon that nothing could truly prepare you for that! Prayers for strength, and protection, as your commitment to serving others continues.

Yes, I am completely aware of this reality, and while Codes can be hard, it's also very rewarding to know you did your best. I think what was hard was just the replaying of it; all the details that surrounded it. Could we have done more? Could we have foreseen it? Who was involved? The order of events... etc.... That may never be different with any future ones... and I'm sure there will be more.

Thanks! I'm always up for a hug, but especially after something so significant.

Yikes! That's got to difficult. Hang in there!

Thank you, Alison! It was hard, not in that I"m not up for that challenge, but that it takes a bit of time to debrief and think through all the things involved. By the way,

:bday::bday::bday::bday::bday::bday:

I know you're having a wonderful time celebrating!!

As a caring health professional you will never totally get over the loss of any of your patients, but you have to take comfort in the knowledge that you were there to try to fight for them in their time of need. You are not in control of the outcome, you are only in control of trying your best.
Good luck in the interview, and good luck deciding in the future which position you want to accept :)

That was very well stated and very well timed. Thank you for your tender input. We all did our best, and you're right: the outcome isn't in our hands ultimately.

I think my interview went well. I"m refreshing the email on my phone about every 5 minutes though. Super anxious to hear!

Good luck. Both with the interview and moving forward from Saturday. That has definitely got to be difficult, but sadly, one of the potential outcomes you'll experience in your line of work. Keep your head up and know you did what you could do.

Thanks, Andy! I think both turned out well and how they were supposed to. I will know about the job soon, and I"m happy with either yay or nay. There are other places I can apply if this isn't meant for me.

Prayers for Frank and for your first Code Blue.

Thanks, Tanya!! Health care is an interesting line of work. Hard and rewarding all at the same time.

Code Blues are a sight to see. I was there when Dad coded, it went from one nurse yelling "I need help!" to people pouring out from every corner. They brought him back that time, but mom said not to do it again and he just faded away later that night.

There were 12 people involved in ours. Pharmacist, 2 MDs, 5 RNs, the CNA who started compressions, 2 Student Nurses, and an Resp. Therapist. It is amazing how quickly response can come in. And there are WAY more details I can possibly share in person... remind me. It is TRULY a miracle on SO many levels. Like he was accidentally given an EKG so he was on telemetry. If he hadn't have been....

No worries. I love it when people comment... but it totally get that sometimes you can't. Life comes first.

I'm SO trying to get there. You're first when it does happen.

Darn. I'm too late to wish you well. Hope it went well!

I'm thinking it did. They prefer grads from my school, and I have 3 terms of Clinicals under my belt with them. Soooo.... we'll see!

Of which I, now definitely, will not be there.
I may still be able to go in September, but October is definitely out.

I completely understand why, but am still sad. Perhaps sometime in the future. :)

At least a day.

I'm finding it is about a day and a half.

Do you have a CISM peer at your work? (Critical Incident Stress Management) If you do, I would strongly urge you to have a chat with them. I'm one for my work group. We're there to listen!

I"m not even sure. But would love to know. I think it's a great idea to have peers there to... just listen. I'd have had a lot to say. My nursing school friends and I had some time together the other day and Angela and I were able to share.

That was very well said, @DonnaBeeGood

It truly was!

Awww man! Was looking forward to it. ....... I think :rolleyes1 :duck: :rotfl2:

The dynamics would have definitely been...

probably about the same. Same silliness, new friend.

 Oh Liesa. As comments below say, Thoughts and prayers for you as you work through this. The hospital should have someone who can guide you through this, especially your first one. :grouphug:

Thank you so much, Pat! I really don't know, but should ask just to have resources in my back pocket. I'd imagine in your line of work, you've had a few 911 calls as well.

You have my number - I can listen....:listen:

I will remember that! (You do know how much I'm looking forward to seeing you again in October, right?) ;)

Thanks for all your prayers but Frank coded on Monday evening and didn't make it !!! It has been a very sad couple of days Tomorrow is the funeral !!

Aww, Rosie, I'm so saddened to hear that! I know he was a very dear and special person in your life. All of our condolences to you and your work family in this hard time! Health care is a hard place to work, but I know you're richer for having known Frank.

Yeah. No October. I basically had to book or let someone else have the dates.
And since I still don't even know if I can go or not... I couldn't in good conscience keep the other person hanging.

You did the right thing. We'll miss you, but will certainly take a spin or two on the HM in your honor.

Drive by hugging.....

Awww, thanks you so much, Sweet Friend. I need all the hugs I can get.

I have meds, and I know how to use them!!!!! :teeth:

:lmao: EPIPENS for everyone!

Oh.............I see your point! :scared:

It's all relative, ain't it?

Liesa, I am late for it, but still sending a big hug! Having to experience a code blue sounds terrifying for me and must have been for you as well, despite knowing that this would happen in your profession!

I think the first one is a really emotional thing for all healthcare professionals. We're prepared for it in a very sterile environment (the lab) but no one can really prepare one for a living (once) breathing patient to turn blue, foam at the mouth, or for the pace at which these happen. It's really caused me to think through what happened and be much better prepared for next time.

However, I love the good news that the interview went well and I hope you will be successful in getting the job and that the job turns out everything you want it to be!

I do too!! I know I'll get A job, but which job is yet to be seen. I will certainly let everyone know as soon as I hear something!

'm ready for the snow to stop. Thought it was about over but now we are supposed to get 6-9 inches by Saturday morning. :(

I'll bet you ARE!! And I just heard that you had EVEN MORE!!! What the heck. Today was 80 at our Coast; unheard of except for a rare few days out of the year.

Glad to hear it!
And as for the position.
I'd pick one lying down. Or failing that, seated with my feet up.
Those are good positions.

And ones that don't make much money. Although I imagine fatigue and exhaustion aren't job hazards.

Same old, same old.

I know. I really should stop getting all excited like.

Wait. I thought we were talking about you, not you're nearly coded patient.

My threads are notorious for changing subjects pretty quickly. Keep your eyes open. And your heart beating.

Immaculate one might say.

:rotfl2::lmao: Good one.

I hope so!
"Doctor, little Timmy has a bit of a sore tummy."
"I see. Has anyone discussed organ donation with you?"
"What?!?!?!?!"

STAWP!!!! :lmao:

I get that a lot.

I can imagine. :duck:

That is wonderful news! And I always suspected that your experience raising a family in a third world country will be something that is an asset on your CV. At least if the employer has half a brain. But it seems that American employers are far more willing to accept unusual experiences as qualifications as it is the case here, where most employers want a streamlined career path. Things are getting better, but I have seen many people struggle.

They did seem to like that point. And I made sure to highlight it. We'll see where it leads.

I think unique life situations DO make for a more well-rounded candidate. In my case, it's lead me to have a much broader worldview and know how to be creative and resourceful without a lot of resources.

Yes, and that is why you would be such a good fit for going on a program to Africa (like you planned with your aunt/cousin/don't remember the correct relation :goodvibes). I know we talked quite a bit about how kids will have a hard time adjusting back to a more comfortable life, but I can totally see that you are bitten by the bug of being out in the world and seeking out crazy challenges - some even close to home like becoming a nurse! :thumbsup2

That's great news about the parient, especially for his family!

It's terrific news! I'm so happy for how things turned out for him!

Great news on the job! I can see where the Crapistan experience would be helpful to a nursing career. Tech, programming, or Web design, not so much.

Thanks, Alison! Lots to be thankful for for sure! Well, actually, there is a specific branch of nursing that is all about Health information systems and how they interface with the RN role. It's an advanced (or specialty, really) degree and definitely NOT up my alley, but we need them all the same!

Fingers crossed. I'm keeping up with chatter and banter, but big updates may have to wait until the week after next.

Yes, you're rather busy with more fun stuff than most of us right now. ;)

Wow, that's a double dose of good news! I'm glad the patient actually made it and your interview went well!

Thanks, Andy, again! I've been thinking about you and Katie and Baby Bean a lot the last few days. I hope all is well, and things are coming together for the arrival. I will visit your thread to see if I missed anything in the last day or so.

Hm. Our Ace didn't have cabbage starts last year. I did end up getting tomatoes and peppers there.

They said they've have the warm crop starts in a week or so. Tomorrow I hope to put a few more hours out there with the kids so we can make way for them.

Amazing about the guy who coded surviving! And fingers crossed on the interview!

Thanks on both accounts!! It's good news on one, and hopeful feelings on the other.

Oh My!!!! He's not Dead yet!!!!

I really hope he continues to improve. He is nothing short of a miracle.
Certainly not what what you are trained to expect.

And not from one code, but 2!!!! Can you even believe that?! It's unbelievable.

Good news on the job too. Hope they get back with you soon.

Me too!! Meeee tooo. There are several from my school applying, but I am the only one that I know of that wants per diem work.

Math, schmath. I have NEVER used squat of my math either other than the 4 basic functions. Seriously, unless you're an engineering geek or instructor I think the chances are WAY low you'll ever use it. ANY of it.

I could handle square pie especially Strawberry pie

Pumpkin for me. Or bourbon chocolate pecan. But only a few bites.

Now that my Preceptorship is coming close to ending, and I'll have a bit more open time, I do want to contact her and see what can be cooked up. I"m getting a horrible case of wanderlust and need to satiate my traveling bug. Yes, they still struggle. A lot. I came across my little one's diary and it was heartbreaking. She even mentioned having a few very concerning thoughts of suicide. We've had to really dig down deep and counsel her; the scars of coming back may never fully heal. (She's doing better now, and we're making some changes for the coming school year for her.) I am seriously considering taking her with me so she can see the value of helping others and that there is more adventure out there; that life isn't all about wallowing in our sorrow of trying to fit in here.

As for my next adventure: I really REALLY want to look into becoming a fixed wing Life Flight nurse. I need to do more research on how one does that.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that!! I am glad that you were able to be there for her and help her to make changes for the next year that will hopefully make things better! I guess she is currently at an age where life becomes difficult for most kids anyway and having to still deal with re-adjustment must make everything so much more difficult! And while WDW is not about helping others, hopefully a trip there will show her some of the good things that she can have by living in the US. And escaping to a place where everyone can be a kid again might be just what is needed as well!

Ok, I have no idea what this is, but it sounds like a flying ambulance! Very cool! I remember that my sister used to love a TV-series about some flying doctors...

Yes, life in Jr. High is a really tough time for so many kids. I"m not sure when or why kids have chosen to be so mean to one another and snotty and petty. She's WAY more mature than that, and just won't put up with it. She has no trouble walking away, but it's been hard. I think it's also been pretty hard having me gone for the last 2 years too. It'll be so good to be present again in my family.

Ok, I have no idea what this is, but it sounds like a flying ambulance! Very cool! I remember that my sister used to love a TV-series about some flying doctors...

It is. More often our flying ambulances are by means of helicopter. Fixed wing (airplane) is more for transport for longer distances and less critical patients.

A few of my favorite shots from my VERY spur-of-the-moment getaway this weekend. We miraculously got a motel room and watched Cars with a few thousand of our new microscopic friends tucked in with us. Then we went to the beach on Sunday and spent the whole day. My shoulders and neck are about at as red as Mater, but my mind is refreshed. (We won't talk about my back, k?) The weather couldn't have been more amazingly beautiful- a very rare occurrence here in Oregon.

Math, schmath. I have NEVER used squat of my math either other than the 4 basic functions. Seriously, unless you're an engineering

True story. We gave my parents (both computer programmers) a rectangular shaped waffle maker. I commented that I wasn't sure how much batter to use, as we have a round waffle iron about 7 inches.

My Dad said, "well Pi times 3.5 squared...

And my mom proceeded to finish the equation with a nearby calculator. Then they measured the rectangular waffle maker to calculate the area. The conclusion was that the same amount of batter would be sufficient.

Bed bugs? :scared1: :scared1:

Beautiful pictures!

Liesa, those pictures are amazing!! How wonderful that you had such brilliant weather! Here spring has finally arrived with equally beautiful sunshine and is supposed to stay for at least the next week - and the best is that Thursday is a public holiday here!

Well, I am the daughter of an engineer and I have done this myself with cakes when I wanted to use a smaller springform... That's what I learned to do at home though, not necessarily at school...

It reminds me of a joke that a friend of my father once told my father and which he loved telling himself ever since: It is an experiment where you put a mathematician, a phycisist and an engineer into a room each and don't give them anything to eat for three days. Then each of them gets a can of beans, but no can opener. Half an hour later you look into each room. The mathematician sits in front of the still closed can and is smiling and tells you that he has solved the problem. The phycisist just started eating the beans. He calculated at which angle he had to throw the can against the wall for it to break open. Finally the engineer has just finished eating beans. He just threw the can against the wall until it broke open.

Is this like one triangle equals another Triangle, I told my Math Teacher I did't care , she said I would need this knowledge at some point in my life .

I wish they'd tell kids to take just one thing away.
How to make change.
Like if something costs $8.77, not to freak out if you're given $10.02.

I like to eat my pie NOT prove it !!!:rotfl2:

Prove it.

You crack me up !!:rotfl2:

Yes! I love a good apple crumble pie.

I'm SO trying to get there. You're first when it does happen.

Yes! I'm number one! I'm number one! Me! Me! Yaaaayyyyy me!

too much?

I completely understand why, but am still sad. Perhaps sometime in the future. :)

I'd like that.

I'm finding it is about a day and a half.

Pretty normal.
Don't worry. It gets worse.

Oh, sure. You want laziness and money! Sheesh!

My threads are notorious for changing subjects pretty quickly. Keep your eyes open. And your heart beating.

So, blink and you miss it, hunh?

Math, schmath. I have NEVER used squat of my math either other than the 4 basic functions. Seriously, unless you're an engineering geek or instructor I think the chances are WAY low you'll ever use it. ANY of it.

Oh, no. I found this out the hard way.
You do have to use all that fancy math... when your kids get into high school and want you to help them with their homework.

:faint:

You got some great shots there, girl.
I've commented on a few, but they're all pretty nice!

I hope you're not referring to bed bugs!

My shoulders and neck are about at as red as Mater,

Pictures or it never happened!

(We won't talk about my back, k?)

Can we talk behind your back?

(please note I didn't mention talking about your behind.

Dang... just did.)

That is one cool shot.

I presume these are taken of tide pools?

Don't jump! She'll be done with her preceptorship soon!

I wish they'd tell kids to take just one thing away.
How to make change.
Like if something costs $8.77, not to freak out if you're given $10.02.
Don't even get me started on this one............. :headache:

Prove it.
She said pie..........not pudding! o_O

Yes! I'm number one! I'm number one! Me! Me! Yaaaayyyyy me!
At least that's what that person behind you on the freeway was telling you............. :rolleyes1

too much?
::yes::

Pictures or it never happened!
:thumbsup2

Can we talk behind your back?

(please note I didn't mention talking about your behind.

Dang... just did.)
But........But.............But............... :rolleyes2

I was a student nurse when I saw my first patient pass . I then had to prepare him for the morgue, which included emptying his bladder and wrapping him in a morgue sheet . Not to many 18 year olds can say they did that!! ' Maybe that's why I turned to Pole Dancing !!! :confused3:rotfl2:Nursing has come a long way since my student nursing days !! :goodvibesI could tell some tales !! My claim to fame was being the BEST enema giver on the ward !!:rotfl2:

Don't even get me started on this one............. :headache:

My fave was the girl who told me I was wrong and tried to give me the change back. I finally told her to put it in her machine just like I gave it to her. When the change came out correctly, all she said was "Huh! How did you do that?"

Here honey. Let me get you started.
1 + 1 = 2. 2 + 2 = 4. Take it from there.

She said pie..........not pudding! o_O

Now that's clever. :thumbsup

At least that's what that person behind you on the freeway was telling you............. :rolleyes1

All right! I'm having the best day! (Apart from hurting my back... again... and being at work... on my day off.)

But........But.............But............... :rolleyes2

Butt is spelled with two "t"s.

My claim to fame was being the BEST enema giver on the ward !!:rotfl2:

 :faint: :lmao:
