Interesting...you realize building a hedge is only necessary in the summer months, right? In the winter, the wall of snow is a more than sufficient deterrent.

I also just read someone else's PTR discuss stopping by the Sanaa Lounge for the bread service, and I'm wondering if that's possible without an ADR. We will be staying at AKL for two nights, seems a shame to miss the opportunity to try the bread when we are that close.

I think you could totally do Sanaa without an ADR in the lounge. And it's a nice one too. Not Nomad nice, but cozy and themed well. And for sure! If you're right there, can't NOT go!

Mom is having trouble with her knee so we'll be going even slower than I thought. We may not be in the parks much at all.

I is for: Impressions of Imbibing at Citricos!​

I'd read a few good reviews of Citricos leading up to last year's trip (I'm looking at you @chunkymonkey ) and thought I needed to pay a visit. Sometimes a good meal begins with a recommendation. Other times, it happens quite accidentally... like my spur-of-the-moment meal at Terralina. After a week of already eating rich food and too much of it, I made sure to not break stride (or is that waddle?) and ordered enough food for several people. It was wholly satisfying, but I'll get to that.

That morning, I'd been enjoying the company of these guys:

But, it was time to try a new place on my Disney Dine-a-thon.

From the Retro entrance of Hollywoodland I headed out on the longest, most ridiculous hike ever inconvenienced on a park-goer. Heh, it's either that one or the eternally long halls at Animal Kingdom Lodge after you've been at MK for 14 hours and had to stand on your bus ride home because someone thought their stroller needed a seat more than you did. Either way, I hear they've fixed the infernally long trek to the bus stalls now at DHS. A year ago, it was "Lace up yer boots, Ma'am, it's a long walk and there ain't no shade where yer goin'." After about 13 years, an MK bus came and I was happy to share it with only a few others. My carriage driver must've taken a wrong turn. I froze during the ride as per usual. Because -13F is the common default temp they keep the buses at. Ask any bus driver. They know.

It wasn't long before I was let off the torture-mobile and I took yet another long trudge over to the monorail tracks. A word to the wise: Allow more than plenty of time to go from park to park if you're passing through MK and it's a Party Night. (Do I sound hangry? I was.) Since doors are falling off the monorails now, I listened to the spiel and Mantengase'd alejado de las puertas. If I could've been assured of living after falling 20 feet, I'd try it for a lifetime AP though. Probably only after eating at Vic and Al's though, since that's what I'd want for my last meal, should it come to that. I wasn't going there, though. I was on my way to Citricos.

I put on my best snoot, turned my nose up appropriately (if I can't actually afford to stay there, I can pretend like it, right?), and sauntered into the lobby. Since I'd allowed plenty of time to make it to my destination, I acted like I owned the place, sat down on one of the cushy loveseats and put my feet up on the marble coffee table. Don't worry, I moved the vase of flowers over first. Okay, just kidding. I sat down on one of the loveseats put my head on the armrest, closed my eyes and listened to this guy for a bit. Waiting 13 hours for a bus in the sun and then recovering from hypothermia is very taxing on the body.



My view:



After a song or two, I picked up my lazy carcass and toddled off to find the restaurant. Basically, I had no idea where I was going. It's been 6 months now since any of this happened (if any of it actually DID happen. I can't even remember what time I work tomorrow. I hate getting old.), but I'm pretty sure I had to ask at least once how to get to it. I'm not even lying when I say I'm not sure at all I could find it if I walked in there again today. I wasn't in the mood for a Where's Waldo Game with the place, mostly because I had to pee. Then again, well... see the above comment about getting old. I passed by the bathroom and feeling lighter I was instantly in a better mood.

And even moreso when I was seated at my table that was ready when I checked in. Phew! Much improved over the service at The Flying Fish. Side note: Is it okay to still be salty after 2 1/2 years? Someone please, help me channel my inner Elsa. I must say, Citricos is a very lovely venue. Muted and understated with an air of elegance. Not really overly themed, just minimalist with a soft touch. I did not get a window table, but that was okay. It was still a nice enough spot and I chose a seat facing the window which was enough.



Please excuse the heavy verbosity in this update; I took pathetically few photos as it was the end of the trip and I was "photo'd out".

The service was quite good if memory serves. Take that with a grain of salt because my memory often does not. I do know that the server did go over all of the daily specials and I actually AM one to attentively listen. 80% of the time I still end up going back to ordering what I had already picked out 8 months prior by looking at the All ears menus (it's what DISsers do), but every once in a while something will catch my fancy. Tonight I went with... not whatever the special was.

Chunkymonkey sung high praises for the:

So I started with that. I should have stopped with that too. It was HUGE and totally enough for one of my kids and I to split for an entree. So I did the most wasteful thing I could think of and left most of it behind. I can say that it was very, very good. It definitely had a kick to it with the spicy puttansesca. I really liked it a lot. But... too much!

So naturally, I ordered a main dish. Why not? Money is to burn on vacation so I try to burn as much as I can. In all seriousness, I am very frugal when I'm not on vacation and spend only about $150 a month on the food that I cook at home. When I go out, most of what I order lasts 2-3 MORE meals beyond what I eat when I order. Irresponsible justification for over-indulging at Disney? I'm okay with that.

For my main course I orderded something not on the menu anymore- Halilbut.





This was equally amazing. Again I didn't eat it all (who could?!) but what I did eat was very tasty. I love fish and this was very flavorful.

Full to bursting... it made sense to order dessert. I mean if I couldn't finish it, the rest would be taken down to my staff in the kitchen and my steward would kindly share it with my ladysmaid, right? (Excuse me while I adjust my tiara...)

Now, if you know me at all, there is no guessing about my disdain and abhorrence of bananas. Gross. BUT!!! There are caveats. Bananas are not bad as: Disneyland Frozen Bananas with choco and nuts of course, and cooked in a bread or cake. Sparingly. And this sounded good:

Warm Chocolate Banana Torte with vanilla ice cream and handcrafted Belgian couverture chocolate crown $12.00



"couverture" sounded snooty enough and the price was right up there with a $ixbucks snack so I went with it. And if the banana was too overwhelming, heck, I'd have the most expensive scoop of ice cream on property. And, if that wasn't enough it came with a tiara good enough to eat. Yes, I did nibble on the Belgian chocolate. Fun fact: I'm 1/4 Belgian. I'm sure you care. The best part of the entire dessert were the cherries on top. I don't see them on the menu and have a vague recollection of them being a bit of a happy surprise when the dish came. YAY me! Did I eat all of my dessert. No, but I came pretty close. Why? Because repeat after me, Friends, "There is always room for dessert at Disney."

So, my overall thoughts of Citricos? Would I rush to go back? Not really, it was a very good meal, but a very expensive one. I think for a nice date night, celebration, anniversary, or something like that, sure, it's definitely a go-to place. Both the service and food were high quality, but it's a lot of money for what you get. The TIW card I got at the beginning of the trip was certainly paying itself off nicely since I'd done a ton of TS places, and 20% is nothing to sneeze at in a place like this.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to find my way out of the GF (stopping at a restroom before I actually do sneeze), risk life and limb on the highway in the sky, ask the bus driver when the 3:00 parade is for the next day, and bleed all over my white sheets at the French Quarter...

She got that steroid shot a couple days ago, and says it feels better already. But, I have also brought that possibility up and am happy to race her all over. I think she'd especially enjoy the poppa-wheelies as we go down the ramp from The Land Pavilion!

I know I'm way behind but had to comment on Citricos It's our absolute favorite signature with our absolute favorite server Rony! We've never had a bad meal and the service is above and beyond any other Disney restaurant we've been to. I get sad when we finish a trip and haven't been there; yes it's expensive but to us always worth it! I'm glad you enjoyed the food and service!
