The 100% Original POFQ FAQ

I didn't wade thru the 140 pages of postings to see how many times this FAQ was updated. Makes me wonder what else in the FAQ is outdated. Wish there was a Wiki...

Well there's now a website with a ton of (hopefully useful!) information, www.portorleans.org. Hope that helps you a bit.

If the FAQ at the start of this thread does get updated sometime, I wonder if it would be acceptable to the DIS Mods/Admin for a link to be added there? I think it probably does need a bit of updating anyway, to take care of other things like:

POFQ will reopen March 21, 2004

Great Website. :cool2:

Do you know how much it is to do laundry and do they have soap and frabric softener?

What's on tap at the poolside bar?

44 more days!:cool1:

Oh I know that one I did it last week - $2 to do laundry, and another $2 to use the dryers. Thers is a machine with detergent in. It only takes quarters.

Have a great trip - we loved it there!

Can I double-check the dryer price with you as it sound like it's gone up since the info I've got. Was that for 30mins? I'll have to update the info on my website if so. Thanks!

I'm not sure what specific drinks the pool bar serves though, much the same as the other WDW bars I suspect. I do know that the cocktail menus (which used to be themed specifically for each resort pool bar) became standardised a few years ago though.

Finish packing tomorrow & leave Sunday - arrive Tuesday morning! WOOT! WOOT!

I know that requests are simply that and nothing is "guaranteed", but does anyone know if you have a better chance of getting that request filled if you are checking in early in the day? I requested a 1st floor room for my mom (yes, I realize there are elevators, but that's just that much further she'd have to walk and she's no spring chicken.... but don't tell her I said that! :rotfl2: ) I won't be complaining by any means if we don't get 1st floor, but it sure would help her out.

Also, we will have the refillable mugs this trip - can someone tell me what hours the drinks are available? Is it the stand in the food court?

Generally speaking, at any hotel anywhere, checking in earlier makes it easier for the front desk staff to grant requests, as more rooms are available earlier as opposed to later.

The food court is open from 6:00 a.m. to midnight. That is the location of the soda fountain.

Hey, I just checked out this site and noticed this campfire on the Bayou....is this still happening? Anyone experienced it? Sad if it does not start until Nov. since I'll be there in Oct???

Campfire on de’ Bayou
Enjoy stories and sing-a-longs while making your own s’mores around the evening campfire (S’mores kits are available for purchase for $7). The campfire location is behind the Muddy Rivers pool bar on Ol’ Man Island, just next to the children’s playground.

This is a relatively new seasonal activity and in 2007/08 it took place from November to February on Sunday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm until 8pm.

All I can say is that it appeared when they reduced the size of the children's playground area on Ol' Man Island and thus created this extra space for a fire with chairs around it. It's only seasonal, presumably as there's not much point operating it when all the parks are open until 9pm and beyond - but Disney could choose to operate it whenever they like. I have no details for this year yet, could someone perhaps ask when they are next at the resort?

Hi, just checked with DH and he thinks it was $2 as well for dryer and washing machine, 30 mins each :)

We stayed at POP July 2006 and everyone decorated their windows. We were one of a few at POFQ.

I know the buses take you straight to the 4 parks.

Do they take you straight to DTD, BW, and the waterparks?

You can get buses for the water parks and DTD, but not the Boardwalk.
(just adding to this correct answer)

... and this is the same for all of the resorts. There is no resort that has a bus to the Boardwalk area as a final destination. The Boardwalk area is a resort area itself. The Disney Transport buses from resorts only go to sites that require (at least in part) an admission ticket, such as the theme parks, water parks and DTD.

And to clarify, you don't need admission to go to DTD, but there are sites within DTD that require admission media to enter, such as DisneyQuest and the clubs at Pleasure Island.

In another thread someone mentioned getting to BW through the back of Epcot.

How does this work and how long does it take?

Getting to BW from Epcot...
At the back of Epcot, between the UK pavillion and the bridge to France pavillion -- there is a "gate" (the International Gateway)...
If you exit out this gateway, you're heading towards the Epcot resorts (Beach Club, Yacht Club, Dolphin, Swan, Boardwalk Inn - counter-clockwise listing) -- if you cross the bridge on your left, after you walk a little ways, the Boardwalk is right there :)
From IG to BW takes us 10 - 15 minutes at a stroll.

There's also a pathway that connects Epcot and Hollywood Studios -- just keep following the boardwalk on around, go between Jellyrolls and Atlantic Dance Club, when you get to the water don't go across the bridge to Swan & Dolphin, follow the paved pathway on your left along the water to Hollywood Studios.
From IG to HS takes us 25 - 30 minutes at a stroll.

How does this work and how long does it take?

If you're in Epcot and want to go to BW the International Gateway is the best option but if you're at POFQ and want to go to BW the best route would be to take a bus to MGM and then boat or walk to BW without having to go through the admission gates or security at MGM.

Is this faster or just less hassle or both?

Is this faster or just less hassle or both?
I would think both.

If you bus to Epcot you have to go through security and through the admission gates, walk all the way through Future World and part of the way around the World Showcase, through the International Gateway and walk or boat to BW. I cannot remember if BC/YC is the first boat stop or if BW is.

If you bus to MGM you can either walk to BW (about 1/2 mile) or boat without going through security or park admission. You could probably walk faster as I am rather certain that the boat goes MGM to Swan/Dolphin to BC/YC to BW to Epcot. At every stop the boat has to dock, folk unboard and then others board.
