All guest rooms have been non-smoking since June 1, 2007, and they did so-called "hard cleaning" to cleanse the rooms of any smell. By the time you are there, it will have been 17 months since smoking was allowed.

On a different subject, I notice in your signature that you have "river view" ... just keep in mind that that's simply a request and not a guarantee. The reservation category (upgrade that you pay for) is called "water view" and can just as easily be a view of the pool, especially in Buildings 2 and 5, which are the only two buildings that have rooms with a view of the pool.

I'm just making sure that you don't set yourself up for a big letdown. You must pay for water view, and if you reserve and pay for it it's guaranteed, but there's no way to guarantee that your water view is a river view.

Thanks for the tip. We did upgrade and pay the difference for river view. Is there another building I should ask for? I defiantly don't want to pay more and end up with a pool view!!

There are some river view rooms in buildings 1, 6, and 7. There would be no chance of getting a pool view in one of these buildings, but they are not as close to the main building and bus stops as buildings 1 and 5. Go to allearsnet.com, click on accommodations, then POFQ, then map. Look at it and you'll see what I mean.

aubriee is right. There's simply no way to reserve and guarantee "river" view.

Here's a link to a map: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/portorleans.jpg

The best you can do is place "river view" as a request on your reservation (you already paid for the general category "water view") and hope for the best.

Have you ever stayed at a WDW moderate resort? Your window and door will open onto an exterior corridor, used by everyone to walk between their rooms and the rest of the resort. So if you have your curtains wide open to enjoy the view, then everyone walking by has a great view of YOU!:scared1:

I figured I'd better make sure you knew about the physical set-up, as well. Due to that set-up, I never pay for a "view" at a moderate because I don't keep my curtains open.

Thanks for all the great tips :thumbsup2 ..I think there may have only been a water view available, because when my AAA TA pulled it up, he said they have a water view available' he didn't give me the option of anything else and he has always asked me before :confused3. Anyway...he put 'building 2 or 5 river view' on the request - I may just have him change it to 'river view' and take the building request off, I'm also going to ask him if thats the only rooms AAA has open. Thanks again!!

We were just in building 5. There was no lingering smoke smell, as I am very sensitive. We also had a river view from the balcony in front of our door, not necessarily from the window.

I had no idea that WDW was smoke-free now, with designated areas of course. For me as a non-smoker that's great news! Nothing worse for me than laying my head down on a smoky pillow! :) :)

We stayed in Building 4 Oct. 2005 and it was a great location. We had a first floor room, had a king room with a courtyard view and we were mere steps away from the main building and food court. We were given the king room as an upgrade when we checked in.:thumbsup2

For Dec. 2008 we have booked a king room, now we re spoiled plus we have an extra traveler this time around! But I'm wondering...are there king rooms around the resort with different views? Or do all king rooms have a "preferred" view, courtyard or waterview?

Thanks for the info... I'm ready to write a trip report and we haven't even been back yet! LOL! We are anxious to see The World through our DD's eyes!

King rooms are sprinkled throughout the resort ... no particular view or location. There are 62 of them.

Is that 62 King rooms in French Quarter alone, or including Riverside? Sounds like a good fact to add to my PortOrleans.org website if that's OK with you. Where did you find the number from by the way?

Just wondering if anyone can let me know what is offered for breakfast at POFQ food ccourt. I checked the dining menu and it was limited to lunch and dinner, but the menu for POR was much more extensive. It will be my first time at a moderate , arriving on April 16, so any insight will be much appreciated.

Thanks Candid !!! Dh will now be quite satisfied and ready to go to the parks.
I guess the taste is typical food court fare but I am sure with the variety you just listed we will find something to satisy us.

First, thanks to everyone in the forums for all of the up to date information. It really help us prepare for our trip, (which was a huge success).

I would like to follow-up with my experiences at the POFQ during Easter week to help out any future travelers to the resort.

-Pool is open. Excellent slide, supposedly for kids but a lot of adults took advantage of it.
-Grounds were clean and in fantastic condition.
-Bus service to Kingdom and Epcot very efficient. No additional stops, never crowded, even on Easter. 15 minute ride either way. Can’t beat it.
-Boat taxi to downtown was also a great perk.
-Quiet, quiet, quiet grounds at night. Loved It!
-Staff was fantastic.

-Room....... I have to rate a 6.5 out of 10. Here’s why:

o Room overall clear. We had two issues that had to have service called in:
An old shower curtain with mold markings. Our Coffee maker took 2hrs the first day to make two cups of coffee. Both were immediately corrected.

o Size was adequate but the bed situation is not family friendly, especially if your stuck with two twin or full, or what ever the small size was.

o We also realized they did not clean the coffee pot after one morning when we rinsed it out for use.

o Bed Rails: Major caution here. My 4yr. is PDD and required bed rails because the beds are high off the ground. Three of the seven nights his body was able to push the rail away from the bed while asleep and end up on the floor. No injury but was surprised on how easily it was to push the rails away from the bed. Made a note to management as an f/y/i. :(

o Storage: Major inconvenience. My rental car had more storage. You have six draws and two night stands, that’s it. No enclosed closet space. Everything else will sit on either a bench, shelf, or in your suitcase. They should really address this.

o TV: If you watch TV while on vacation, you may be disappointed. Lot’s of Disney promo channels, no premium channels like HBO and such.

o Dining: 5 out of 10 rating. Since FQ only has one restaurant, (counter service for dining plans), the food options are basically the same day in and day out. Riverside had a few more options but I was unimpressed. CS (Maya Grill), excellent dinner choice.... We took the dining plan to enjoy all of the character meals.

Overall we loved POFQ for it’s peacefulness and convenience of travel. If I could, I would splurge for the deluxe resort but if I can’t, POFQ would be my number one choice.

Good Luck....
Enjoy.....

Can I ask how many were in your group? When DH, DS and I stayed there we didn't find the storage inadequate. Nor did we find the beds too small...and we are both "pooh sized".

Not a problem. We were four: Two "Poohs" one "Tigger" and a "Piglet". May be the better half liked to pack more than necessary. But it was tight with the storage. Especially as the week progressed. You didn't want to mix a full day of clothing at MK in 80+ sunny weather with clean clothing. We were also there for 8 full days coming from NY so we had some xtra winter baggage with us as well.
We had two double beds, only types available. One was given up for “Tigger” and his bed rails so us Two “Poohs” slept together  on the other while “Piglet” had a pack-and-play. Maybe the King size bed we left in NY was still on our minds.... It was snuggly but bearable..

Even if you already know this, just for everyone who might not ...

The beds at all 4 WDW moderate resorts are identical. Rooms without a king-size bed have 2 full-size beds, also known as double beds. It's not like another moderate resort will have bigger beds ... gotta move up to the deluxe resorts for that.

How long is the boat ride to DTD. If we wanted to to go to DTD for lunch how much time does the boat take. How long by bus?

It is between 10-15 minutes. You can get there faster by car but you would be missing out on a really beautiful and relaxing trip. Plus, you get to see the Disney TreeHouses where the International Cast Members stay during their time at WDW.
