Thanks for the replies! Since there are 4 of us, we will not be getting a King room. I was going to request a ground floor room not realizing that the hotel had elevators, so thanks for the info. But, I will probably also request one near the main building though. Fewer obstacles will be nice.

We used the elevators once, and only once. They were so far away from our room, it was easier just to take the steps. Put it this way -- our room (in Building 5) was closer to the food court than to the elevators for our building. The steps are fairly gradual, not a steep climb. But I do think I would be a little hesitant to go up them at night if I had some vision problems. That's why I suggested the first floor. But the other thing to consider is that if you leave your curtains open, then you are on display to everyone who walks by, regardless of what floor you are on. We kept our curtains closed the entire time. The lighting in the room was bright enough for us.

Same here, short walk to food court, long walk to elevators, LOL. We kept our curtains closed to when we were in the room. People walking by can see in otherwise.

I would suggest that the person with vision problems should ask to be put in a room near or as close as possible to the elevators. She just needs to call and have them mark it on her ressie that she has this problem. I know they will probably not guarantee this request but it never hurts to have it on there. I traveled last year with my friend who has difficulty with her feet due to an auto accident, she uses a scooter at the parks, and when I made the reservation I made mention of it. When we got to our building we were very happy to find out they had put us very close to the elevator in bldg 1. Just a fews steps off the sidewalk and we were right there and our room was just another few steps on the 3rd floor. It was a great location for that trip.

My DH and 2 DD's will be returning this December for a mini, before Christmas trip and are hoping for a room that is courtyard facing and in a never smoked in location. My DD 10 has asthma so the smoking part is guaranteed but am keeping my fingers crossed on the courtyard view. We just really want to be closer to all the sights and sounds of this resort. Building 1 was really awesome but too quiet for us. I know that sounds weird but we really love being in the middle of all the action.

If you're weird, I'm weirder, because I like being as close as possible to the laundry room. IMO, there's nothing worse than a long walk hauling laundry back and forth. Besides, we're so busy when we're down there that, when we sleep, it takes a lot to wake us up, so being in the middle of the action is fine. And with my kids, I worry more about disturbing other people than being disturbed myself, KWIM?

Okay so maybe you win on the "weird" thing, LOL. I have NEVER done laundary while at WDW and would really hate to. That's why I OVER pack by a ton and my DH keeps saying as he's loading the car, "are you sure you have everything I do not see the kitchen sink in here?". We are very fortunate that we only live about 2 hours from WDW. The last 2 times we have traveled I have really cut pack on stuff but still have enough clothes to last twice as long as were there. BTW what does KWIM mean? I have seen that many times on here and have never figured out what it meant?

Do you mean you don't know what KWIM means? I mean, you Know
What I Mean, right? :)

Deb
OH...thanks for the info! I feel like a real idiot now. I can not believe that I did not get that, KWIM? LOL, thanks again, Becky

Hi!

Just booked a short 3 night stay for DH and I for next April at POFQ. I booked here because we really want a King bed and this small resort seems like it will be just right. I've stayed at Poly, WL (just last week), and POR. I'm really looking forward to our short stay! I just hope I made a good decision. It seems like most people like POFQ but every now and then you will read a horror story of dirty, broken-down rooms.

We will have a car so I'm not worried about the busses. I'm sure we use the boat ride to DTD!

Looking forward to it! :yay:

Have no worries momtocc, it's a great place to stay. The only thing POFQ lacks is that "OH WOW" feeling you get when you walk into WL, Poly, or AKL. It's pretty and special (and even pretty special) but it doesn't quite give you the same visceral feeling of grandeur.

DH and I have spent most of our WDW vacations at deluxe resorts, but first stayed at POFQ on a trip with a friend. I loved it! On the next trip I took with DH, we spent several nights at BCV and then 2 nights at POFQ (in a king room). We both felt that POFQ has more of a 'Disneyish' feel than BCV. Our room was even more spacious at POFQ! Of course BCV has Stormalong Bay which is far and away the best resort pool on property, but other than that, I really like POFQ better. Go figure!

I love that it only takes 2 or 3 minutes to walk from my room to the pool or main building. At WL and BCV, it seemed to be miles to the pool from our room. POFQ is quiet and beautiful, but the fact that it is so compact makes me love it even more. And it's more centrally located compared to the MK area resorts or AKL.

Since the whole place was refurbished only a few years ago, hopefully the broken down rooms aren't such an ish anymore. Both rooms I stayed in have been well-maintained and clean. I'll let you know if the same holds true on my upcoming trip (leaving in 4 days!).

Oh please let us know how it goes! The small quaint feel of POFQ appealed to me so that is one of the reasons I picked it. Have a great trip!

Whew! I made it though all 102 pages in 2 days (though I've gotten next to nothing done at work! :coffee: ). Thank you, thank you everyone for all the great info and wonderful photos! I booked POFQ for a solo stay in early Feb for my mom's wedding at OKW. Originally I'd planned to book AKL but really need to save some money, and after seeing a friend's room at POR a a couple weeks ago, thought I'd give FQ a try. Love the smaller size and theme--it reminds me of New Orleans Square, my fave part of DL. Now I can't wait!

One question: I read earlier in the thread that the canoe and kayak rentals had closed at POFQ but were still available at POR. Disney currently lists kayaks as still available under watercraft rentals on the FQ site. Anyone stay there lately know what's up? Maybe it's a seasonal thing? :confused3

I was there in October and never saw any canoes or kayaks. The only thing I saw along the water was the boat to Downtown Disney. We never encountered any canoes or kayaks while on the boats, either.

You'll be glad you switched to this resort. Very relaxing.

All watercraft rentals are over at POR now, but it's a short (10-15 minute) walk or boat ride to get over there. Have a terrific time, and welcome to the DIS!

Thanks, Deb and thunderbird! Who knows if I'll even have time to paddle around anyway... I like to find out about these extra activities and then we're always too tired to actually go do them :faint: More likely we'll be collapsed in chairs knocking back a few at Scat Cats or the Adventurers Club ;)

We stayed at the POFQ a month ago, and LOVED it. I've finally uploaded my pics from the resort. I somehow didn't take any pics of the room though!? I don't know how that happened? I guess the first day we were concentrating on getting settled, getting our luggage, walking around the resort for a bit, and then getting off to the parks. And somehow, I just never remembered to take a pic during the week. Next time, I'm going to have to just yell "STOP!" as soon as we walk in the room to take a picture so I won't forget. ;)

POFQ is so pretty. The pics can't show off how nice it is. I love how even the cobblestone ground had pits in it, like it had been worn down over many years.

I also thought I saw a hidden mickey in the wall of the room. I could have been going crazy, though. I took a pic just in case, I still don't know if I'm crazy or not (I have a closeup in the album)

Thank you for your photos! they were gorgeous and brought me right back to POFQ from when we went in September for our wedding! The more I look at the photos and the more I think about it the more I just LOVE POFQ as well. It's so charming and holds lots of gorgeous (wedding) memories for me! I'm sure we will be visiting there again!

thank you! :yay:

Hubby and I were at POFQ in May this year. We had enjoyed Riverside
in 2006 and decided to try FQ in 2007. Soooo many things we loved
about the FQ. For some reason, any staff that we ran into were exceptionally friendly. The smaller resort appealed to us in a fun way. We were at building #7, the furthest away, and it allowed for us to wind down slowly as we walked to our "home" for the day. Yet, how amazing is that to be able to do a 5 minute walk to the bus stop!

Well, so I just booked a trip for May 2008. Can you guess - we are returning to FQ. Such sweet memories, we feel like we need to continue the magic.

For anyone that is staying the first time, relax, enjoy this heavenly spot. The bus situation in May was so easy. First pick up before Riverside and first drop off at night. Altho on some nights, we had our own FQ bus.

Happy Disney Wishes to all....

Becky

We just booked our stay for next Aug 5 to 12th. We are looking forward to seeing a new resort. I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice.

Does anyone know how long the boat ride to DTD takes?
