"That One"

Come on people!

Dance with me if you're a liberal socialist lefty!!!

:cool1:  :dance3:  :cool1:

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Hehe... but how does Pennypacker explain me, a pro-business moderate, focusing on the same thing? I'm sure there is no legitimate answer forthcoming.

Generally, many of the right-wing squads out and around these days evidently see everyone who doesn't agree with them as "that one".

The comment was disrespectful. It was a poor attempt at appealing to the crowd.

Here's the other problem with the comment, it completely undermines his theme and message. If you're so great at reaching across the aisle, why are you treating the man across the aisle with such disdain and contempt? Mr. McCain, if you win, Mr. Obama will still be in the Senate while you are President. Do you think that maybe, perhaps, you shouldn't burn those bridges of bipartisanship that you're touting as one of your biggest assets?

And Transparent, war is hell. Innocent civilians die. Are the troops over there wandering around saying, "hey, I think I'm going to go kill an innocent Afghan"? No. But we have killed innocent people in both Iraq and Afghanistan. To ignore this basic, inevitable fact of war is disingenuous.

There are no bridges of bipartisanship to burn with Obama, for there to be, he would have had to have done something bipartisan in the past.

Politics isn't pretty, and Obama wasn't fazed at all by the comment. He was calm, cool and collected.
On the outside, perhaps. Inside, I'm sure he was saying, "Yes! McCain showed his true colors!" I bet Obama was tickled pink that McCain made such an obvious error.

:rotfl: This argument again?!

Here are the facts:

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/686/

In a major speech to the Republican National Convention, Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut praised his friend John McCain and attacked the Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

...

Here we'll look at the statement that Obama has not reached across party lines to get anything significant done.

But we've found several instances of legislation that Obama passed in concert with Republican lawmakers.

• Obama collaborated with Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., in 2006 to pass a law (PL 109-282) creating a Google-like database of federal contracts and grants allowing users to type in key words that would bring up exactly how much money any particular recipient received.

• With then-Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Richard G. Lugar, R-Ind., Obama won enactment of a 2006 law (PL 109-401) that allowed the United States to export nuclear fuel, technology and reactors to India for the first time in three decades. The law accepted India as a nuclear-armed power and was enacted despite concerns about India’s ties to Iran and past sanctions for transferring sensitive equipment to Iran.

• He also worked with Lugar on a Senate bill that authorized the president to carry out a program to provide assistance to foreign countries to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Another part of the measure was intended to stop the spread of conventional weapons, notably shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles that the legislation refers to as man-portable air defense systems, or MANPADS. The bill's provisions were incorporated into a House bill that passed later that year and was signed into law in January 2007 (PL 109-472).

These bills arguably meet the threshhold of significance, particularly the two measures with Lugar on important foreign policy issues. Since Obama is a Democrat, and Lugar and Coburn are Republicans, that seems to qualify as reaching across party lines. We find Lieberman's claim False.

Yeah. Obama's never reached across the aisle.

I understood what he meant - when he said "that one" - he should have said "Not this one" (pointing to himself) and then said "that one".

Honestly, though, I don't think he was any less respectful than Obama was in the first debate when he referred to McCain as John while McCain referred to Obama as "Senator Obama".

Yeah, those bills that he cosponsored with Lugar, Bunning, Coleman, and Coburn don't count.

ETA: Thank you Brianne. I was called away while typing my response and didn't see your post above.

My grandparents always said "that one" and "this one" so I don't understand how this is disrespectful. Example: "Somebody put the cookies away before this one eats all of them". I actually found it affectionate.

Anyway, I can't believe everyone is saying that McCain was condescending by what he said, yet no one found picking on him about his age condescending. :confused3

People of the PC world are always looking for something.

No problem. :) I've come to the point of leaving those fact check sites up on my browser because I seem to have to access them quite frequently. :rotfl:

McCain's pretty old, maybe he just forgot Senator Obama's name for a moment? I mean...I've heard older people do that quite a bit, using "this one" or "that one" to cover for the senior moment.

Just a thought...

But, did the punishment knock the silver spoon out of your mouth?

Ouch. Ok, cheap shot.....I apologize. Let's try that again.

Did you wipe your tears on the seat cushions in the family limo or just sit and ponder the existential meaning of pain as reflected in the Monet painting in the Grand Foyer of Chez LOG? :)

chuckling......

Nah, "that one" is no big deal. Look how demeaning I can be without hollering out any names.....at all.....

BTW, above is satire. Everyone knows LOG is as blue collar everyman as Sen Biden is........ ;)

Funny stuff, old bean...

I'm almost glad you're back. ;)

Really?

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:S.3709:

He's not listed as a co sponsor in the senate portion of the House bill that resulted in PL 109-401.

As for the other, show me something he has done by partisan that the Dem Leadership hadn't also signed onto, I mean something with 47 out of 100 senators co sponsoring it isn't exactly wading into the deep end of by partisianship.

Where in God's name are you getting anything PC from this? It's called being respectful during a presidential debate.

Some thought BO was disrespectful in the first debate. JM referred to BO as Senator Obama and BO referred to JM as ....John. I think people get bent over things that are nothing.

So...let me just make sure I'm hearing you correctly??? You believe that my hero, and my godson is killing innocents? Keep your damn support. If that is the what you believe him to be doing - He honestly doesn't need or want any "support" like that.

Good grief! I think you are blowing what I said out of the water! I did not say your godson is killing innocents. I know nothing about your godson. If he is in Iraq doing his duty to this nation, he has my support (whether you like or not) and my respect. I also am not naive enough to think that innocents do not get killed. It is a war! Innocents always get killed. Sometimes, it is hard to distinguish the enemy when you are in a combat situation like Iraq. I know that if I were there, I'd be afraid of everyone. The enemy isn't wearing a big sign around their neck to identify them.

Please don't put words in my mouth. I don't believe in the war in Iraq. I think it was unnecessary and many, many brave Americans and innocent Iraqis have died. Even though I don't agree with the war, I will always support our troops no matter where they are. Again, I only blame those who sent our troops there. My heart goes out to you, that someone you love is in danger. I don't have anyone over there, thank God. I did have many close friends and relatives in Vietnam, so I have some idea what it is like. I am sorry if I upset you. That was not my intention, but I do not agree with the war or with McCain. Sorry.

The world was much better off with Saddam Hussein in charge of Iraq?
