My grandparents did as well. I notice that my SIL's mom does the same thing when she is talking about her grandchild. It reminded me of my grandparents when she said it. I think its a generational thing and of course, much ado about nothing.

Yeah, my grandmother used some "generational phrases" during her time. None of which I would ever repeat or care to use myself.

Thank God that Americans have grown and expanded their minds in the last 40 years.

Just because it is a generational thing does not make it correct or acceptable.

I thought is was meant to be disrespectful, but I wasn't surprised. The McCain/Palin campaign has decided this is their only option if they want to win this election.

Politics isn't pretty, and Obama wasn't fazed at all by the comment. He was calm, cool and collected.

I think some supporters may have been looking for verbal fist-a-cuffs to break out during the debate, but it didn't happen.

I heard that last night also. Need to hear more about it, but my first instinct is I do not like the sound of it. How many billions should we throw out there while waiting for someone somewhere to articulate a plan.....

You see now...McCain is affectionately disciplining Obama's for his silliness and lack of judgement on that particular vote. My guess is Obama needed to be knocked into tomorrow for not thinking correctly. Takers, anyone....anyone?

I see this is personal to you...but can you define the military terms
"collateral damage" and "friendly fire"....
in a war people die.... both innocent and not....

and this takes nothing away from the fact that our military is doing the job asked of them and doing it to the best of their ability....

we can support our troops but we can also be honest about what we are asking them to do...

and also want them to be able to come home....

The comment was disrespectful. It was a poor attempt at appealing to the crowd.

Here's the other problem with the comment, it completely undermines his theme and message. If you're so great at reaching across the aisle, why are you treating the man across the aisle with such disdain and contempt? Mr. McCain, if you win, Mr. Obama will still be in the Senate while you are President. Do you think that maybe, perhaps, you shouldn't burn those bridges of bipartisanship that you're touting as one of your biggest assets?

And Transparent, war is hell. Innocent civilians die. Are the troops over there wandering around saying, "hey, I think I'm going to go kill an innocent Afghan"? No. But we have killed innocent people in both Iraq and Afghanistan. To ignore this basic, inevitable fact of war is disingenuous.

WHen McCain made his acceptance speech at the RNC I was actually a little surprised. At that point, I thought- "Ok, this guy isn't so bad." I felt, for the first time, that either way- I wouldn't be GROSSLY disappointed in the outcome of the election. I still prefered Obama, but felt a bit more comfortable with the thought of McCain.

Then he picked Palin. My respect for him plummeted. I can only imagine that there are many more qualified female conservatives out there. I know Condoleeza Rice didn't want the VP bid, but she would have been an honorable and qualified pick! I would have been thrilled to see her (even though I still wouldn't vote for her simply because of differing ideology)- but I respect and admire her.
