Thanksgiving Meal

Don't forget to wear a green ribbon.

.. Disneyjunkie- I'll have to tie ribbons on the stroller and maybe on the kids fannypack/backpack. I dont usually carry any thing now that we have the stroller. :bounce:

Hi, all. I'm new to writing, but I've been reading the boards, and I've collected a lot of invaluable information. It's nice that so many people are willing to share what they know. I hope I can be just as helpful to others.

There is a character dinner at 1900 Park Fare for Thanksgiving -- Pooh and friends. The CM told me Park Fare and Chef Mickey's would have characters. We've eaten at Chef Mickey (plus it was completely booked) so we chose Park Fare and got a 8:15pm seating (and I called a couple of weeks ago!)

We had Thanksgiving dinner last year at the Yacht Club Convention Center and loved it! Mickey and Minnie were there and we had a wonderful picture taken with them. I was told by the CM that this dinner was not being offered this year and probably wouldn't be. I would have done it again if it was offered because it was a huge, sumptuous buffet and very nicely presented, plus we got to visit with Mickey and Minnie, which gave my girls a nice start to our trip. That's why I was looking for another character dinner this year. It starts the trip off right!

TXMOMMY --

I noticed you live in Friendswood. I grew up in the area, but now live by Memorial. Nice to see a fellow Texan! We'll also be at WDW at Thanksgiving. Can't wait!

WHoa!!! My reply is on there 4 times in a row!! how did that happen??? SORRY!!!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I better think about off site. I did think I read somewhere last year about a dinner show for Thanksgiving with Holiday music or is that for Christmas?

Restaurants in MK and MGM (supper) haven't started taking PS yet, so there are still plenty of good options. Also, Boma, Artist's Point, California Grill, and 1900 Park Fare still had availability when I called last night. The only place about which I asked that was full was Chef Mickey's, and they did have a 9:15 slot open. From reading the boards I was starting to panic thinking I needed to hold a PS NOW, but after talking to the agent last night, I'm quite comfortable I'll be able to get something in MK or MGM easily at 60 days out. Also, I'd bet that if you want Chef Mickey's and you call that day something might open, because others might be holding that as a 2nd choice.

There are other Epcot restaurants serving Thanksgiving menus besides Garden Grill. Here's where to find info about 2002. http://www.wdwinfo.com/holidays/thanksgiving.htm
We're holding out for LTT. If we can't get that, then we'll try Cinderella's Royal Table. We're spending the day in AK then hopping over for an early dinner. I'm hoping there will be 2 showings of Spectromagic, and we'll head to the late one.

thanks for the link travelitis! When I called for my PS at Epcot, the CM told me that was pretty much the only place having Thanksgiving dinner. We dont get into Orlando until about 4:30 on Thanksgiving evening. So we took the last time for dinner at GG...8:00. Im steering clear of MK :)

Thanks to all for the great information and advice (and HOWDY to all you TEXANS!). I'm with you, travelitis, we're holding out for LTT, w/ CRT as our 2nd choice. If neither of those pans out, well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!! :p

Sept 29 is going to be a crazy day for WDW DINE with the Cindy's Breakfast phone race and Turkey Day callers! Mark those calendars and synchronize those watches!

travelitis,
Do you know what times were available for CG? I called 118 days out and the only times available for Thanksgiving were 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30. We want to eat dinner and 5:30 was too early. Since our DS really wanted to eat there, we decided to call back last week and try for the 5:30 anyway. My DH was told that the only time available then was 1:30. :( My strategy was to wait and call back closer to the date and hope for some last minute cancellations. Wonder if I should call back now....

I called the first day they were taking PS requests. Those are the times the CM told me were available for Thanksgiving too. We took the 5:30 p.m. I wanted something later, but 5:30 was the last seating they had...

When I called they gave me the same 3 times which sounded perfect. The menu other than the turkey, however, wouldn't go over well with my family nor would the pricing. For $45 pp it better be some spectacular turkey.

I'm with you.... My daughter wants to treat us to the CG... I'm not a sushi or veggie person, I'm a meat and potato chick! But it's Thanksgiving and I'm just looking forward to NOT having to cook that turkey...

I agree the price is up there and it better be REAL good turkey, but I'm going for the magic and for the Holiday, because who knows when I'll get back to the Contemporary.

I'd like to go to CG without the kids and have a romantic evening. Since grandparents are meeting us at Disney that just might happen. Even the restaurants that are only $25 pp are steep for my in-laws because they're small people who barely eat. My MIL is 108 lbs wearing 2's and 4's. My 8 and 10 yr. olds eat more than she does, but she has medical difficulties eating. I'm thinking of asking Disney if they'll charge her as a child.

Two years ago my family (14 of us) had a wonderful family style Thanksgiving dinner at O'Hana. All the traditional fare plus some extras. Then we walked down to the beach to work off some of our dinner and view the fireworks. It was great!

I just booked O'hana's for us. It was the only AYCE available with the possibility of real turkey. ( the CM said they offered white and dark meat) Does anyone know what else they serve? The CM didn't mention any other meat, like ham or beef.
