Thanks for honking - I _know_ I can...

I would turn on red unless I can't see past other cars to see if there's anyone coming, a sign that says I can't turn on red or anything else that makes me think it's not safe to do so. So in those cases I'll just sit there if you're gonna be a donkey and honk the horn.

Worse is those jerks who honk the second the light changes from red to green.

As I approached "the" intersection, and slowed because the light was red, I could see that the oncoming traffic's light was turning yellow. At that same speed (safe for cornering), by the time I got to the turn, 'my' light was green and I was able to proceed without aggravating anybody. As far as I know. When I say 'slowed', I mean I'd taken my foot off the gas; I hadn't yet needed to brake.

One more post before tonight's right-on-red report :rotfl2: On my previous commute, I frequently used a four-lane road that opened into a four-way intersection: left lane marked "left lane must turn left", the two lanes to its right were, by marking or understanding, the 'straight-ahead' lanes. No problem. It was that pesky right lane :umbrella: that made me find a different route home.

Two signs: "right lane must turn right" :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Sure. Except all those drivers who were too important to wait in the through-traffic lanes... and the other sign was one of those rare "right turn on red after stop" :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: (note twice as much laughter due to drivers being twice as funny about this ;) Stop? What do they mean, stop? Don't they know who I am????? But the 'funniest' drivers - read: biggest jerks - were the ones who ignored BOTH signs, driving straight through the intersection without stopping, despite not having any form of right of way.

OK, stop it, I have to draw a diogram.:rotfl2:

My favorite is when some idiot honks at you for actually, I don't know..STOPPING at a red light or stop sign before taking action.

Sorry, I don't do California stops and it is not impeding traffic to actually obey the traffic signal/sign that is red prior to making that legal right on red.

Okay, well, I don't know how to post pictures (but if somebody can write VERY simple instructions, I'll do it), but see if this works http://maps.google.com/

I don't know why there are yellow lines drawn on the map, but see the one labeled "Commercial Ave"? With four lanes of traffic? One of the middle lanes is covered by the yellow line, but it's there. The left lane is the left turn only one, the two 'middle' lanes are for straight through the intersection, the right lane is the "fun" one. As you approach, there are two or three signs stating "right lane must turn right", including one at that corner. Across the street, where that silver car is ideally making a right turn (permitted, and I say ideally because traffic in that direction is stopped at the light otherwise) is the rare "right turn on red after stop" (emphasis mine) sign.

Oh, and I forgot - sometimes that lane, where the dark car is waiting IN the crosswalk, don't get me started, gets a green arrow. Depends on the time of day. Makes the "I'm too important to wait with the common people driving straight through" drivers the object of MUCH ire ;)

Map did not work but I can picture it better in the morning then night, I just needed one of this :coffee:
I know what you mean. Basically It is just logical to stop before you turn, period. However not every intersection require it simply because it is not always needed. There is intersection I always use, there are 3 lane road and it becomes 2 lane road after intersection. 2 left lanes go straight and 3rd right one used to be "must turn right on red", it leads to highway entrance. There is no traffic goes from left so basically there is nothing to check for. I will not speculate if there was a sign to stop before turn or not, I do not remember, they put a street light there now. Anyway I always stoped just to see if nobody crossing street, I guess this is why they put street light, for once in a blue moon pedestrians. It never hurts to use your head on a road anyway. We have another "turn right on red" sign which is not clear at all. It is valid except 7AM-4PM school days. OK, what about summer school, snow days, some schools have off days different from other schools. You see my problem, so I turn there only during weekends, aftet 4PM and on national holidays. Other questionable days I wait for green, people honk and probably I do the wrong thing but I do not want to get ticket.:)

Oh! I forgot about pedestrians (at the 'old' intersection, not the one I use now). Don't get me started on pedestrians ignoring walk lights. And bicycle riders using the road when it conveniences them, or the sidewalk when THAT works better for them. And the skateboarders. Joggers with headphones. People too important to USE the crosswalk/walk light... dang - there's SO much I DON'T miss about working in Boston!

:rotfl2: I know what you mean. I do not shop for fruit and vegetables in a supermarket. There is a street with 2 blocks of vegitable markets where I shop, I HATE it. People cross in the middle of the block and do not even turn heads to look for a car. Are they immortals? And bycycles, well I think they ALIENS :scared1:, seriously they pop out of nowhere...

You seem to have a bunch of issues with random traffic-related stuff.

Yeah, I seem to spend a lot of time driving. This equates to a lot of time encountering traffic (and when commuting to "the big city", pedestrians et al) and so, yes, a bunch of issues with random traffic-related stuff.

Misuse of words also annoys me, as you can see if you do a search. I have issues with shopping; I like Top Chef, Project Runway, and (although I've never started a thread about it) Amazing Race. I miss Robert B. Parker. I miss the tv show "Monk".

I have a few other random 'issues'. Thank you for keeping track of them for me.

Mine wasn't the first car in line at the intersection tonight. Our light was red. There was no traffic coming from the left. The driver in the first car stopped, and stayed stopped, until the green arrow appeared.

Nobody honked :teeth: Apparently, all drivers in line understood the dynamics of this traffic signal.

If it was a one time thing, based on the perceptions of safety, then no big deal.

But your original post came across that you have been doing this 5 days a week for the past 6 months.

Yeah, your original post makes it sound like you NEVER turn on red no matter the circumstances. It really reads as 5 days a week, for 6 months straight you've been sitting at the red light instead of turning onto a perfectly clear road just because you choose not to turn.

8 pages of rants because OP was assumed to encounter a light that was red 180 times in a row?

If she's that powerful I don't dare honk at her

Ah, but how can it be the FLOW of traffic if we're all STOPPED because of a red light?

And whoever mentioned "like a stop sign" - don't get me started on the apparent complete invisibility of those in Massachusetts! :rotfl2:

Apparently, stop signs are just "suggestions" to a lot of people in my neighborhood. :scared1:

Aw, thanks! If I were that powerful, I wouldn't need to complain on an online forum! :rotfl2:

In the state of Mass, if you are at a traffic light that is red, and you are allowed to turn right on red, you must stop for 3 seconds before turning. How do I know this??? As I sat in the back seat of the car, as my dd took her drivers license test, she scooted through and turned right. The tester, a state cop at that time, asked her what she had done wrong. She had no idea. She told him that she was able to turn right on red, right? Yes, he said..but only after stopping for at least 3 seconds. And that each car had to make that same 3 sec stop.

I'm not sure a sidewalk is safer.

In Florida, bikers can use the road--WITH the flow of traffic.

What bugs me is the idiots who ride AGAINST traffic--hello moron! and the dorks who disobey the law, ride in the dark and have absolutely no lights on their bike, the bike is a dark color and they are wearing dark clothing.:confused3

Many people bike for exercise and it would be dangerous to pedestrians on the sidewalk. I'm glad they have the option even though I'm too chicken to do it myself. But my beach cruiser goes at a snail's pace.

I took a peek and couldn't find a single word misused in my post. :sad2:

I guess what I don't understand is how someone can allow themselves to be affected so much by one of these minor occurrences that they need to complain about it online for days (or at all.)

Someone cut me off this morning. It bugged me for about three seconds, then I got over it.

Because some people are more sensitive about those things (myself included).

You can't expect everyone to react exactly like you. And if they don't, it doesn't mean they're wrong, they're just different.
