TGIF: The College Years

Hey everyone!

I love the TGIF idea!! That's so cute!

As for my Friday night, I had dinner and Guitar Hero (my guilty pleasure haha) with my family and some good family friends... Then I watched Paula Deen (one of my faves--saw her at the NC State Fair this year!) and now I'm settling in for a lot of What Not to Wear. Party Animal, yes I know.

Who knows what's in the cards for tomorrow? A mixture of homework, tux shopping for my little brother (even though it hurts me to see him look so grown up!), and maybe a little trippy to Cracker Barrel?

What's everyone up to??

For my psych class you can participate in 4 expiriments for 4%, so I did one today (they are run by Masters students)

Anyways, I was told that I was going to have to give a speech and then be critiqued!!! And then she said first I had to fill out some surveys (which were all about how I was feeling at the moment....some really random questions!! lol "do you feel vengeful" "do you feel inferior to your classmates" etc)
THEN she says "Before you do your speech we're gonna have you do a market research taste test on cookies" so she bring in 3 types of cookies, and tell me I have 10 minutes, I have to try at LEAST one of each cookie and rate them, and I could have as many as I wanted in that 10 minutes. And so I did that, and then she had me fill out about 200 more questions about how I feel about myself and how I feel about eating and dieting and stuff.
Then she tells me that I didn't have to do a speech, and Iwas part of an experiment to see how people react to food under certain moods! (mine being nervousness!! obviously)

Can I just tell oyu how relieved I was!!!!!!!

Have you guys ever participated in any psych experiments on your campus?
I've done 2 others, they are pretty interesting.

Anyways TGIF!!! (although I have to work til 11. BLEH!)

I think with psych experiments, they are almost always testing something different from what they tell you they are testing. Often it's for ethical reasons; making the subject think they are going to be put in an uncomfortable situation is safer than actually putting them in that situation. I took a class on Research Methods last semester, and we learned about how to create experiments. It was actually really cool.

I  Paula Deen! I think she's so cute & she makes the best food. (With tons of butter!) I definately want to try and eat at her restaurant down south this year.

Hmm, last night I had to work really late and then get up super early for a training class. So, I think I'm just staying in tonight, watching movies and RELAXING! :thumbsup2

I love the name change. :)

Did somebody mention Paula Deen? I think she's such a cutie! I love her accent.

So, I was quite confused with the name change, not gonna lie... lol. I was like, where did the thread go? haha :)

My friday night consisted of playing Rockband with a bunch of my friends. I sucked hardcore (it was my first time ever playing it), but it was still awesomely fun.

Tonight was my friend's 21st bday, so there was plenty of festivities... :)

:lmao: Sorry! I should have said something about the name change :goodvibes

So tomorrow's my first day of classes and I only have one class... and the building and room are still listed as TBA. I tried calling every office in the school this weekend and no one feels like answering their phones, plus when my professor e-mailed everyone in the class two weeks ago I asked him what room the class would be in and he never got back to me. I no longer have his e-mail saved and for some reason he isn't even listed anywhere on my college's site (he's not even on rate my professor!) so I have no way of contacting him. What am I supposed to do?!! :headache:

LOL! Took me a minute to figure out where this thread went! :upsidedow

I love the new name though!!!! :goodvibes
OOOOOH TGIF, how I loved it, Boy Meets World, Brotherly Love (double the Matthew Lawrence) hehehe.

This weekend has been bitter-sweet. My boyfriend came home from his school for the weekend to hang out with me (because we haven't been able to see each other in a few weeks) So it was WONDERFUL to hang out with him, but I always hate saying goodbye (he just left about an hour ago, I already miss him----I know, I'm a cheeezball lol)

I had to work alot too, and I was REALLY busy, (with mostly kids aged 12-16 watching 'Meet the Spartans' bleeeh--those are the hardest customers to deal with let me tell you!!! lol)

And now I'm just having a lazy Sunday (with tons of reading to do, mind you. Have to read an entire play for tomorrow....the art of procrastination, gotta love it!!)

How was everyone else's weekend?

Love the new thread name, it definitely suits us! :)

Ahh I love rockband! I find it so much harder than guitar hero though, the guitar seems to be so much more sensitive. I love playing the drums and doing the vocals though! :goodvibes

What a pain! :scared: And it sounds like you've done everything you can to try to find out....I guess just try showing up at the building that houses the department your class is from and hope for the best! Why do colleges always do stupid things like this??? Good luck with that! :flower3:

My weekend was ok......Friday was my last night at home, which I just spent watching movies, doing some laundry, starting some packing, and relaxing. Saturday I spent the morning packing, and then I moved back to my dorm yesterday afternoon. I couldn't get my internet up and running til today though, I was close to having withdrawal lol! :scared1:

Today I worked this morning, went to lunch, and got groceries at target. I'm spending the rest of the day relaxing and getting ready for my first day of classes tomorrow. :thumbsup2

I have to read the beginning of a play for tomorrow and I really keep putting it off! :flower3:

If I were you, I'd get there a little early and go to one of the offices. They should be able to tell you! Good luck! :)

My university employee hat: My guess is that they haven't set the room yet. I work in my university's registrar office and we're changing rooms even after the semester has started. The professor probably didn't want to respond and give you wrong information.

On another note, universities are closed on the weekend. When I come into the office on Monday and find voice mails from students, I get a pretty good chuckle at it! It amazes me that students think I am checking my voice mail from home - unlike a cell phone, I have to be at the physical phone to check my voice mail.

My student hat:
That really stinks - how can they expect you to get to your class on time if no one knows where it is? I would just contact the department again this morning.

Good luck - have a good first day!

I can't wait to hear about it!

Hey! I just got home from my first class and it was "The Oral Interpretation of Children's Literature"... basically how to read to kids without them getting bored :lmao: It was actually petty fun!

Thanks for the advice! That's why I didn't leave a voice mail, I didn't think anyone would get it. I know my college is opened on the weekend, though. Most of my professors teach weekend classes so I have no idea why no one was in this weekend :confused3 But called really early this morning and they said just to come into the office so I did, and they finally had a room. It was completely across campus but at least it all worked out! :goodvibes Thanks again!

Wow that sounds pretty easy! Great way to start a Monday and the week!:thumbsup2

That sounds like fun. I had a children's lit class last semester and I loved it. It is really fun to revisit all of those books you used to like when you were a kid.

babieemelly, that class sounds so fun! Is it as easy as it sounds?

I had my first academic misadventure of the quarter yesterday... of course I procrastinated and didn't finish my history prospectus until about an hour before it was due. We had to turn it in at the professor's office by 4, and I was printing it at about 3:15. My printer has been out of black ink for awhile, but it's a photo printer and I had a photo cartridge that you can use instead of black ink, which I used to print something a few weeks ago and it worked fine. But of course yesterday, it didn't work at all... my printer was taking several minutes to print each page, but the pages all came out completely blank.:headache: So I was trying to fix it for like half an hour, and I finally gave up and tried to use my roommate's printer... and her computer froze as it was opening the file.:headache::headache:

By that time it was almost 4, and it takes me 20 minutes to walk to my professor's office anway, so I frantically emailed him the prospectus and explained what happened, then went to one of the computer labs on campus to print it out and take it to his office... and it turned out he wasn't even there, and everyone had put their papers under the door. So now my email just unnecessarily pointed out that mine was late, since he wouldn't have even known otherwise. I'm sure it will turn out fine, but I was really wondering what I had done to make everything work against me yesterday!:rotfl:

I had a Children's Literature class (probably really similar to if not the same as yours) last year and absolutely LOVED it!

how are your other classes going??

Man, that SO sounds like something that would happen to me! I'm sure the professor won't even care; at least you were honest with him! Plus, you turned it in and he'll get it at the same time he gets all the other papers! :)
