TFW Meet 2008 The Mission: Wiener Salad & Margaritas - Trip Report Links on Page 1

:wave2:

Yup, that would be me.
I know - I was just looking at the 11am advisory and thinking of you guys - can your new car convert to a pontoon?!

I also thought of you when i walked out the door at 9am today... it felt JUST like the Low Country out there - dank, still and positively dripping with humidity and loud with a symphony of cicadas. the only thing missing was pluff mud. :scared:

Second, that sucker's about to head into Cuba. Do you know what the fabulous thing about Cuba is? It's a very mountainous region. Which in storm lingo for us Miamians means, that's gonna hurt the storm pretty bad, it might pick up a tiny bit after it leaves Cuba before it descends on Florida, but probably not much. (At least here's hoping)
:lmao: Spoken like a true Floridian! Exactly what we've all been saying around here, too: "Turn Fay, turn! Hit those mountains baby!" :cheer2:
Fourth, everyone give V lots of   as it seems like she'll be receiving the brunt of the storm, unless Cuba's mountains hurt it a lot.
Thanks Z :goodvibes My only fear - and it's a big one - is of strengthening. I really don't know why i live here, because going through Hugo scarred me for life. The worst of that was planning on a much smaller storm and a 10 ft. storm surge... only to be nailed with a HUGE storm, at the highest tide of the year, and a storm surge of nearly 30 ft.! :scared1: And, working where I do, I KNOW how ill-prepared we really are as a state. :worried:

But, I'll echo this: WDW should be just fine. Fay would need to be gigantic to do much there, beyond rain and a few spot tornadoes. And that's jsut life as usual down here. :thumbsup2

Well, the good news is, I only bought nonperishables at the store today, in anticipation of power outages around here in the next couple days... so I'm well stocked on snacks for the trip! :rotfl2:

Need to go back out later for the mandatory storm booze. Z, am i right?!

Here's the latest advisory:

I'm in lock-down writing mode, but had to pop in and share...

Just heard from LL - they made it to Vero with no problems and are LOVING the place! :thumbsup2

Who's next - Janet?

Quote from the weather channel. "If you are going to be in the theme park area Tuesday and Wednesday bring your umbrella, but all should be fine:banana:

Not me V. Kat is next (tomorrow) and then me and Lessa on Tuesday!:thumbsup2

Also, mom said to tell you if you need to go inland call me and I will give directions to their place. They have a spare room and an air mattress:thumbsup2

Can I just say how sweet you all are? Between your parents, Angela and LL I'm set if I need to get out. Thanks guys! :grouphug:

Whoa, I had no idea Kat was leaving so soon!
Kat - if I don't see you here before you leave, have a SAFE trip and I'll see you soon! :yay:

I have to agree with V - all of the fockers are great friends. It's amazing how willing and supportive everyone is - I can't wait to meet you all!

It really is amazing, isn't:goodvibes I never would have thought when I joined the DIS that I would find such a wonderful group!

Should we leave Jo a message at the resort, just to make sure she is aware?

Mo, I thought that too....:confused3

Someone should, just in case they're only watching Stacey on the Disney channel thingy and NOT the weather channel....:lmao:

MEL:banana:

How sweet of you to think of me when you stepped out into dank air filled with water and the sound of cicadas.:goodvibes

;)

Speaking of pluff mud, we spent the morning at the beach at Isle of Palms. The marsh was thick with stench.

I'm glad the weather is looking better for the parks. :goodvibes Turns out I misheard my mom - she probably said "surgery in two days at 2:00" and I heard "Tuesday at 2:00". So the surgery is actually tomorrow which should give me a better idea sooner, if you KWIM.

:lmao: Spoken like a true Floridian! Exactly what we've all been saying around here, too: "Turn Fay, turn! Hit those mountains baby!"

::yes::  Then of course I asked my friend Yani (she's Cuban, like fairly recently from Cuba arrival) and I asked her how mountainous Cuba is and she's like, "Uh, it's not that mountainous." D'oh! :headache: Ooops. Well there are some mountains as it exits Cuba.....

Yes, Andrew scarred me. Imagine this: I lived in Colorado all my life (born and raised) only to arrive in Miami and 1 week later this Gigantor storm is heading right towards Florida. This was me @ 12 yrs old to my aunt:

Me: "OMG! There's a huge hurricane coming!!!!":scared: :hyper:
Aunt: "Oh it's not coming." (which was the mindset of all of S. Florida @ the time) :confused3
Me: "What do you mean it's not coming. Look! [pointing @ TV] Here's FL and there's the Hurricane." ---So obviously heading straight for Florida.
This is what was showing on the freaking news:
hurricane_andrew_satellite.jpg

Aunt: "No that's not gonna hit us."
Me:

The next day Andrew hit S. Florida BAD, the worst storm it's seen. So this was me after Andrew to my mom.

Me: "See it's a sign from God that he wants us to move back to Colorado." :rolleyes1

She didn't appreciate my 12 yr old sarcasm. :teeth:

:rotfl: ::yes::

Are you making hurricanes? ;) (too sweet for me, personally, but hey.)

:rotfl2: :lmao: Good Idea CE!!!!! Too bad I can't drink at work.....:sad2:

In other news......4 Days until FF!!!!!

Hopefully it won't be too wet, but yeah it usually rains @ Epcot so everyone remember their Mickey Ponchos!!

I just called and left Jo a voice mail and told her to watch the weather channel.

Can't wait to meet David now;)

:rotfl2: Sorry about that! Does it help that I love all of those things?!

I think I'm the only person on earth who likes pluff mud stench! Well, not likes exactly - more of a reminiscent thing. How was IOP? I really must get back some day...

JANET!!!!!!

It's turning LEFT! :thumbsup2 :cool1: :worship:

DH was temporarily living here, although not here for any of the storms, when Charlie, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne hit, while I was back in Memphis oblivious. I'm not sure if I would have actually moved if I was here then. :confused3

I just called and left Jo a voice mail and told her to watch the weather channel.

I'm sure they are fine but she has my cell if they need anything. :)

Can't wait to meet David now;)
he, he :rolleyes1
