Texas

I haven't even considered the colleges yet. I suppose that SMU and TCU likely plan to open. Ugh.

I'll be cutting my own hair also. I watched a video where you gather it all up in a ponytail on your forehead like a unicorn to do an angled cut. We shall see.
Yeah, I need to do that again. It didn't come out too too bad...No pictures, dont ask :D

Couple of tips: sharp scissors; and once you determine the length you want, gather the end in another elastic, so you (a) cut evenky and (b) don't drop any hairs and have to spend the day vacuuming.

UT came out first saying they'd have in-person classes. After that, I knew the rest of the Texas schools would follow suit. No football unless you have students there, says the powers that be. No football, no money. So students it is. My kids go to A&M. They have an extended class schedule to allow for more time passing between classes, masks are mandatory, event spaces are being set up as classrooms so they can social distance better, all classes will also be online, dorm move in is by appointment only (no mass move-in on the weekend), and they go home for Thanksgiving and don't come back - reading days and finals only after Thanksgiving.

We'll see how that works. I'm not confident.

Horrifying. And STILL a certain group of people in this country (and in my town I'm surrounded by a lot of them) do not believe this is "that serious." We live on a lake. On the 4th, my husband and I took our boat out (and got close to absolutely no one in the process), and took it around our smallish lake (180 acres in size, which is simply not that large as lakes in Minnesota go). We saw AT LEAST a dozen large parties at houses around the lake with not a mask in sight, with tons of people being close together. I get it. People want to celebrate the 4th. But, we cancelled our "regular" event (attending a party at my BIL's house) and refused to attend. It's not safe. And, it's not worth it. I know my experience was replicated many many times over at the literally 10,000+ lakes in Minnesota...I'm gonna be shocked if we don't see a dramatic increase in 2-3 weeks time. Maybe people will "get it" then, but they sure don't understand now.

We usually have at least 40 people at our July 4th party. This year we had originally planned to have it on July 3rd because DS13 and I were going to have to drive to San Antonio on the 4th so I could drop him off at Trinity University for camp on the 5th. We could have easily had more people than usual since we wouldn't be competing with other July 4th events. We canceled the party because it wouldn't be safe.

College towns with 10,000 to 50,000 students....what can go wrong? (As was shown in the link to UW Greek life news).

I am very confident there will be eventual closures in schools that are planning to open as usual

These people who still don’t think it is serious will likely act like the world is falling into hell and wouldn’t wish the virus onto their worst enemies once anyone close to them get seriously sick. Not a problem to them until it becomes a problem.

Thanks for the tips! I still haven't tried cutting it yet.

I have to go to the dentist tomorrow. I. Am. Petrified.

If I bring this virus home to my son I will never forgive myself.

do you have an infection or an issue which must be treated immediately? If not, perhaps you could put your dental appointment off for a little while. Although, I don’t know that things are going to get better in Texas anytime soon.

Tink, My dh has serious neuro disease. I am cautious about decisions these days, as I think you know.
That said, I do what needs to be done. And that is what I see you doing with this visit. Your dis buddies are here for you. 💙
Thank you... I needed to hear that.

DS #2 went to UNT in Denton-this makes me wonder what it's going to be like up there. DS #1 went to Kingsville-way out in a small town. But thanks for the reminder concerning Denton-makes me so grateful that this didn't happen 15 years ago. Or even 10 years ago-that's when the same DS was an entertainer on a cruise ship, they've had their own problems.
We got another emergency alert regarding Covid-19 the other day-hospital ICUs in our county are now over capacity.

Which county?

Thanks for the tips! I still haven't tried cutting it yet.
Another tip: cut your hair over an open plastic bag, or an open wastebasket, or a couple of bulky sheets of newspaper.

How long are you planning? I found it I bring the ponytail forward and cut at eyebrow level, it comes out a nice length. Long enough to put in a ponytail, at least :).

I want to bring it to just past the shoulders. Right now it is almost to bra strap level!
