Texas

I wish our governor here would mandate masks, we're on the way to being really bad. Nashville reverted back to a modified phase 2 effective tomorrow but the rest of the state outside of a few cities is fully open and everything. We have some cities where the fair is going on! :sad2: And don't get me started on the concerts that were held out east
Knox County mandated masks starting tomorrow, but our county sheriff has stated he won’t enforce it because it’s unconstitutional for the Health Department to mandate...so thats where we are. Meanwhile Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are progressing rapidly to dumpster fire status. All the governor does is say he hopes people do what is right...he needs to grow a freaking spine

More people will die there. No idea what masks have to do with the constitution. I think it’s hard to pursue happiness if you’re dead.

It is very frustrating how selfish people are acting. And the same people who refuse to wear a mask in an effort to decrease numbers are screaming for schools to be open with no safety changes.

I would imagine that police aren't too thrilled to be required to enforce this in today's climate. Another problem among many.

As far as I know Rockwall is continuing with their plans for the 4th starting with a parade which many have backed out of with festivities going on throughout the day ending with a fireworks show. And the Harbor is having a fireworks display tomorrow night.
I went to the grocery store this morning and don't plan to leave the house again unless its work related until sometime next week.

Rockwall posted that he will not be enforcing masks for any of the 4th of July festivities, including a parade. I was out today to snag some items, and there are already too many people out for my taste. All loaded up to not leave the house for another week!

Just had HEB Mesquite BBQ rotisserie chicken tonight. Delicious. My friends from other countries LOVE to shop at HEB when they visit. Their curbside pickup is so efficient and the employees are very friendly and helpful.

I visited a Trader Joe’s on opening day and guess who was there, checking out the competition? The CEO of HEB, who is instantly recognizable from their commercials. He was joking away with the TJ people. Our closest HEB is about 6-7 minutes away, and a new one is being built even closer than that, in the opposite direction. Oh, the joy!

Not yet. The last time we spoke to his infectious disease doctor in May, he said the tests were unreliable. He did say he would test him down the road when a better test is on the market. That time might be now.

Almost all of our friends and family that have been with us through this ordeal believe he had it. His girlfriend at the time is Chinese and had just returned from China a couple of weeks before he got sick.

Is she from the Wuhan province? Was she in Wuhan at all? China is such a huge country - was it spreading outside of Wuhan when she was there?

Just asking because there was another nasty virus going around here (MA) in December, and now everyone who had it thinks they had COVID. From the one family I know who got tested, it wasn't COVID or at least they don't show the antibodies.

Doesn't it suck that you have to shelter in place longer because of the ignorance of others?

My niece will begin as the director of public health in sevier and cooke(?) counties. Coming from Colorado. I’m not sure what she might be getting into.

So thankful for the mask mandate!

On a side note - when my girls were little my husband tried telling them that HEB stood for Howard E. Butt, and they always thought he was teasing them.

That’s awesome! Those are pretty rural counties, Sevier lives through tourism. There is a fair amount of distrust in science or any governing body there.

During the hurricane they did a great job!

So between this and Publix it sort of begs the question of why the logistics subject matter experts from these businesses aren't consulted? They have experience and deep ties in supply chains, harness what is already there.

There is a brilliant show called "Diagnosis" where a Dr uses crowdsourcing to solve dilemmas, why not emulate this?

Because I'm pretty certain our governor believed this virus "would go away when it got hot"/"was like the flu"/(pick your Fox topic of the week). No need to make plans when it's just not that big of a deal. That's the only reason I can think that they felt rapid reopening, without any structured metrics of what was safe, was going to be successful. All that's ever been said was "we have enough hospital beds" like that's the be all end all of pandemic management. I can just imagine there were epidemiologists all over the state with chronic anxiety and depression.

You could extrapolate that to the federal level. This entire pandemic could have been handled vastly differently with a coordinated public health campaign that stressed testing, contact tracing, quarantines, and public health messaging.

We don't really need crowdsourcing. We have plenty of experts in the state and country. It's just that the governing bodies chose not to utilize them.

In Fort Worth, HEB usually refers to Hurst, Euless, Bedford, which as a group of small suburbs that are right next to each other.

Yes, as children we always snickered about the name. And Howard’s son, Charles E. Butt, has given hundreds of millions of dollars in the state of Texas, including over $100 million to bolster the public schools. That’s pretty cool!

Way back in the day, my FIL worked for HEB in San Antonio. He spoke fondly of the employee picnics held at H.E. Butt's ranch and how nice he was.

Talking about this family reminds me of the Hogg family. I can remember going to Jim Hogg park as a girl and learning he had a daughter named Ima Hogg. That really upset me that they named her that!

Here’s to hoping we get our case numbers and hospitalization numbers back down in Texas. I am hopeful everyday that I look at my phone or turn the tv on, the good news spiral will begin - vaccine, great therapeutic, virus is weakening. This too shall pass - we just have to work together to protect each other while the solution is coming.

His school had/has a large group of students from Wuhan. They have a research partnership. She might be from there. Idk.

I think it’s more simple. Incumbents don’t get re-elected during recessions. It just doesn’t happen that often. They figured the economy was more important.

Maybe I'm not too bright, but what is the point of a "you must wear a mask" order when you have exemptions for churches?
