I'm from Texas, and it is hot!! Could you fellow Texans compare our heat to Florida's. We're plannin on goin the first week of May, and I wanna know if it's hot hot like TX May or is it burnin hot like TX June or is it scoldin hot like TX July or is it "Dear Lord, Please help me!" hot like TX August? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You'll be fine in May. =)

I may be a prissy Texan, but I won't be back during June-July-August again. Last July I went, and I was so miserable I could not enjoy myself. I promise I went from airconditioned place to airconditioned place.

I think what you have to remember is here in Texas, EVERYTHING is airconditioned. I go from my ac'ed house, to my ac'ed car, to my ac'ed work, to my ac'ed mall, etc etc. I may be out in the heat a whole 5 min a day. If that.

But at WDW, you're out ALOT. Lots of walking, lots of standing in line with other sweaty hot people, etc. The humidity is bad, and doesn't go away when the sun goes down... I'm in central/north Texas, and we dont get that humidity like Orlando does.

But I went towards the end of May this year and was fine =)

Well, the answer depends on what part of Texas you are comparing it to. The weather in Orlando should be very similar to the weather in the Houston area at the same time - very humid! So if you are coming from that area or the gulf area, you should be right at home. However, if you are coming from north or west Texas, you will definitely notice the humidity.

Just use the same heat coping skills you use at home in the summer and you should be fine!

I'm from Ft. Worth, but I have been down to Houston and there is a lot of difference in humidity levels. This August we were down there and my glasses were fogged, the car windows were fogged and every building we passed had fogged windows! I guess no use in straightenin my hair while we're there. I'll just pack plenty of ponytail holders.

You're right about the A/C. The kids asked what the buttons on their car doors were for, cause we never roll down the windows!

It'll be a lot more like Houston than DFW. It'll be humid and not quite as hot.

We went in August this year and it was OK. We ran hard during the mornings and evenings and took it easy during the afternoon. The family swam a lot and I shopped and relaxed mostly. And that was both at Disney and Universal incidently.

I'm also from North Central Texas and visited WDW the first week in June for the past two summers. I had no real problem with the heat or humidity, but then again, I like the heat and can't bear cold! I keep my A/C set on 79 or 80 and that is plenty cool for me, so maybe I'm the odd one.

ANYWAY, we had one day this year at EPCOT where I had to keep reminding my kids to find some shade to walk in because the sun was so very hot. Future World has so much concrete that the sun is not only beating down on you but reflecting back up at you as well.

But never fear! Just when you think you can't take the heat anymore, a nice afternoon thunderstorm will appear! I learned to look forward to those and enjoy the thinning crowds and cooler temps.

As a native Houstonian - I would say it seems to be hotter in Orlando than at the same time in Houston. I would put them a month ahead of Houston on heat. We went at the end of May one year and changed clothes after lunch every day and stayed around the hotel in the afternoon - swimming, napping. The heat was much worse than what we had left in Houston.

Also have friends from Tampa Bay area who indicate Houston weather is much nice than theirs.......we still get some cooler days and stay cooler longer it seems in their experience.

Early May might be ok though.....just take more clothes than you planned so you can change during the day, too!

Have Fun!

I'm very surprised to hear your response, jillhou. We live in Houston and go to WDW several (4-5) times a year, every year. We all agree that it almost always feels cooler in Orlando than here at home, because the humidty is lower and there is almost always a bit of a breeze. We've been every month of the year, and have always felt this way. The exception would be if they're having record highs and we're having useasonably cool weather.

Perhaps you're not used to being outdoors, but inside in the a/c? That could make a big difference. We spend practically every weekend, all weekend oustide at home, whether it be biking, canoeing, camping, or at kids' soccer games. It has never felt as hot at WDW as it does here at home.

I would suspect however, if you're from the Dallas or Austin area that Orlando would feel hotter to you than home.

We find ourselves outside most of the year. My kids play year-round baseball and we do four-wheeling and fishing throughout the year. I would bet if you look at average temps - you would find central Fla to be hotter - just my gut feeling. We don't go in the summer anymore. Plenty of other times of year for us to go. We have always found it warmer there - even in December and January.

Howdy from League City -- right in between Houston and Galveston Island :)

We went Sept 30 - Oct 7 last year. On the 29th we were staying on Pennsecola Beach. Friendly heads up--that beach is COLD at 8 in the morning, and we weren't even in the water.

Our last fling at WDW was on the Illuminations Cruise at 9 -- again FREEZING! Course, the rain helped with that one.

Other than that it was wonderful the first day at AK--overcast and rainy. But the second time there was HOT HOT HOT--something about all that cement and no shade. Trees everywhere, but no real shade....

Didn't really notice humidity--but then, that comes from growing up on the Gulf :)

We live about 30 miles from the Gulf south of Houston. All of our trips other than one Spring Break trip have happened between May and August. We tend to be used to the heat and humidity. In my opinion (and my families) Orlando and Houston seem to be about the same weather wise. I don't know where in Texas your from but if its not from the humid coastal plain then you may have trouble with that time of year.

I like to compare the heat from here to there. It is more humid than it is here. However on a day when it's not humid, feels just like Texas. AK is the worst!! However, we can manage the heat in Texas, you can definately manage the heat in Florida.

Lewisville, TX represent!!!

My wife and I went down last year in August, it was hot, but I don't think it felt as hot as it did in the DFW area. It was humid, thanks to the almost daily rain. I think Texas uses a different sun than the rest of the world, although we might have used the standard sun this year due to cooler temps this summer. Just stick to the standard Texas outdoor rules, look for shade, drink plenty of fluids (unless that involves standing under a cow near the business end for shade), crank the a/c down to 60, visit your local cement pond often, keep your beer consumption down to a six pack every 2 hours, alternate gatorade and beer if you can, take a hose to the kids if no cement pond is available, swim in a lake if you can, hose down other kids for fun, wear light clothing and most important, keep your socks dry.

Some of those may not apply, but you get the idea.

I have no idea about the weather. Just want to say "HI" to my fellow Texans! I'm in Duncanville. Once upon a time I lived in Wichita Falls.:D

Not sure about May but in Sept.-Feb (only months we will go) the weather was very similar to DFW area.
My DB went in August this year and he said he was not uncomfortable with the heat.
I am a wimp as I have heard too many people say they will never go back during the summer months.

Hey all,

Went to WDW in early Septemeber last year and went to the gulf coast on Memorial day this year. Heat and humidity were very similar. It's much more humid than in North or Central Texas but I think the temps are about the same.

It is a lot like the Texas coastal cities, and Orlando is often less humid than Houston or Corpus. We the first 2 weeks of June and either Early December or Early January. Very similar weather to what we are used to in Seguin.

Another Texan here, south of Corpus. Went in May last year with DS #1, from Laredo, and DS #2, from Denton (who, I think, works in Lewisville). We all agreed that WDW felt less hot than any of the places from Texas we're from. Wow, a lot of Texans on these boards!

I live in Pasadena (just outside Houston) and the weather is very similiar. It all depends on the current areas forecast. I have gone and it was hotter in Orlando, and vice versa. Its not like comparing Ohio and Florida. Its like comparing Ohio to Indiana.

This has become the Texans Roll-Call thread!

Navasota is about an hour NW of Houston, and the temps+humidity are pretty similar if you compare the annual averages.

That said, we go to WDW in December because I can't imagine paying the $$$ to melt in the heat. We do that at home for free.;)
