Even after reading about it and watching a youtube video, I am still not sure about test track. Is it a roller coaster? Do you first sit and design your car and then get in to a car with 5 others and go down a track? I am trying to make a decision on how the kids in our group would handle it. Feeling silly asking, but I want to be prepared. Thanks for replies.

You stand at a computer, design a car and then ride in a car simulator and go down a track and do a few tests with the car, including a high speed test. It's not a roller coaster. It's like riding in a convertible on the Interstate

After you design the car and get in to test drive can be a little boring. I was thinking “what’s so special about this?” but when the doors opened and we took off…..loved it!! We went 64mph and you are speeding around like a racetrack. And with it being a convertible it seems you are even going faster. One of my fav rides. It’s a great rush!

There are three parts to the ride. Designing the car is what keeps you entertained while standing in line but it has nothing to do with the ride. Then you get in the car and go through a series of "tests" that are boring. The the doors open up and you get to drive around the outside of the building on a track that is really cool.

Not exactly like this, lol, it's a lot jerkier and noisier.

there are a few test that you do a break test with out anti lock breaks ( so the car goes kind of fast then stops and swarves some then with much smother you go through 3 different rooms that on the last version did things now they do not. one of the rooms is a fake wind tunnel then you do a hill climb and you go a little fast on each incline then it is the out side part where you do the speed test this is where you go out side and go fast 65 MPH

the part where you design your car is part of the line they will put you with other people in your group I think up to 3 so if you have 5 then 2 and 3 or if you have 4 then it would be 2 and 2 you have about 8 minutes to design the car the design has not thing to do with the ride but after each part of the ride it rates the people in the car against each other

It is sounding like we can handle it. I just want a really good idea of what to expect so I can share that with the kids. That way they can decide yes or no for themselves.

Most kids like it. Mine HATED it. As in were absolutely SOBBING. They were 8 & 5, but they both have sensory issues. It was far darker, noisier, jerkier and "scarier" than we thought it would be at one point. If it had just been the open race track, that would have been one thing. It was the "tests" before you get out onto the open track when there's a semi headed straight at you and brakes slamming on etc.... that got them. But they loved the car design part and then the post-ride stuff.

We have a 14 yr. old who had some anxiety issues when we went on Soarin, but once we talked to him about it he ended up liking the ride ok. He is the one that I am concerned about with this ride. I am so glad to hear these replies so we have lots of info to talk about.

What is the hill climb like?
I don't like drops so just want to make sure since I am thinking about giving this ride a try next trip.

There are no significant hills. Not even one close to the drop in Pirates.

Agree with everything folks have said. The only real "adrenaline rush" is the outdoor drive. It is exhilarating in a different way, but certainly no loops or corkscrews like a roller coaster.

Pretty tame really. I think 7 Dwarf Mine Train and Big Thunder Mountain are much more exhilarating. In fact, we, including DS9, find it a little boring, but we still do it. I actually prefer driving over the speed limit on the highway or on our 80mph toll road in my own convertible. However, with two speeding tickets within 6 months, I will have to settle for Test Track:rotfl2:

Last time I went in 2011 I couldn't get enough of TestTrack and one of my favorite things was it was sprinkling outisde when the car went outside which made it sooo much fun going at 63mph (it had been raining harder before and the ride had been shut down while we were in line for about 20-25 minutes-keep an eye on the weather since it will be shut down with enough rain).

Because I went last pre-design aspect this will be new to me the next time I go but it's weird before 2011 I hadn't really wanted to go on it but boy I got hooked. It's been changed since I last went but there is enough similarities like small inclines, hard stops (really not that bad), the fast part at the end, etc that I know I'll be ok with it when we next go.

I have sensitive ears so there was some parts that i had to close my ears due to the noise...but I'm not sure if they tamed that aspect down when they changed it post-2011 (keep in mind my noise level tolerance is a lot different than others-most rides I have to close my ears at some point due to the noise though I'm so used to that it doesn't interfere with my fun).

This is a youtube video (I know you mentioned youtube but didn't know if you had seen this one) from 3 years ago showing the design aspect and the full ride
..maybe you could show your kids what the ride will be like..I don't know if that would ruin the fun of the ride for them or if it would ease your concern on their reaction of it.
