Ok, since she asked, I will post my trip report here too. Be aware, they tend to get really long, so if you want to skip them, I wouldn't balme you in the least.
This is the pre trip report.
Friday Jan 12
I have been substitute teaching for the past few months and Julie's teacher has had a very tough year. I have been subbing for her on and off for the past few weeks. This past week, I was asked to sub on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This is a great help, since preschool tuition is a small mortgage or high car payment, but not so great with timing since I have a lot to do in very little amount of time.
I finished teaching around 2pm and went home to start packing. "Mommy will you play with me?" Julie asked.
"No baby, I can't today, I have to pack the car so we can go to Disney."
"After you pack the car can you play with me?"
"No sweet baby, then it will be time for bed so I can wake you up in the middle of the night and we can go to Disney."
I hate telling my kids I don't have time to play with them. So, I sat down and played two games of Chutes and Ladders and then went back to packing. I'm such a push over I know.

While I was putting the game away, Nico got off the bus and came running in with his school bag.
"Mom did you get the email from my teacher?" He asked
"Uh no I didn't.

But I need you to run upstairs right now and tell me what shorts fit and what doesn't so I know if you need anything."
"Mom, I only have one pair of jean shorts and two other shorts that fit, and now I'm hungry."
"Ok, we need to go out and shop since, Julie only has one sweatshirt too. Let's go quick."
We ran to the store and grabbed snacks and summer clothes for the trip. I grabbed McDonalds for dinner for all of them and I came home to finish packing, while they ate.
"Nico, where is your school bag? Did you get your report card today?"
"Uh maybe, I don't know."
Now I should mention that I have never worried about Nico in school. His grades are always decent and I know he one of the more advanced kids in his class. I opened the report card to find that he got the highest markings in all the areas for Kindergarten, but there was a note for me to go over the school rules with him and make sure he is aware of them.
"Nico, have you not been following the class rules?"
No answer
"Nico, I'm asking you. Have you not been listening to your teacher?"
Again, no answer
"There is a note in here that says you have been talking excessively. What is going on?"
No Answer
My eyes got really big and I turned to him, "Nico, you need to answer me or you can stay home with dad and I'll take the girls and go to Disney. Have you not been following the rules?"
"I'm not the bad kid in the class mom. Other people are much worse than me." he stated rather defensively while rolling his eyes at me.
I raised my eyebrows and stared at him, "Does that mean that it's ok for you to not listen and follow the rules?"
He looked up at me with puppy dog eyes and didn't say anything.
"Nico," I sighed, "you need to listen better. Just because other kids are worse, doesn't make it ok for you. All during your life, you are the only person that will be held accountable for your actions. How you act and listen to the rules, that is on you and you alone. No one can make you do anything you don't want to do. No one can make you talk, make you not listen, make you not finish your work. All of those choices are YOUR choices and you will be held accountable for them. So, you need to start making better choices about the way you are going to act in school, ok?"
"Fine, but I am not the worse kid."
Ugh!!

Clearly this was not the last discussion we were going to have on this topic, but I had to finish packing.
I think I finally got to bed around 11:30pm, after checking the boards and reading Nico's teacher's email and talking to my mom. 2am was going to come much too soon for my liking.
