I was at work, as usual. with NO radio, or TV and NO computer Access! I have heard a LOT of versions to this story. One being that they were on thier way to Turkey Point and had enough explosives to do some damage. Also, that they were on thier way to a University to set it off. As far as the "woman" who gave out the info, she was most likely asked whether she wanted to appear on TV or not, and she opted too! Me, NO WAY! Also heard that Ft. Lauderdale Airport was closed--not TRUE!

Random thoughts now that I'm caught up:

As for the route, I'm pretty sure 75 is the round-about way to Miami. Yes, you would travel 75 from Georgia to central Florida. But then it continues down to Tampa (West FL). Miami is on the East coast. The turnpike starts at 75 in central FL and would bring one directly to Miami.

See 75 in red from Gainesville to Tampa/St. Pete and the Turnpike in green jutting off near Eustis (I don't travel it often but am almost positive the green is the turnpike... anyone?)

{edited - sorry, couldn't get pics to work. I just went to mapquest and typed in "75 & Turnpike" and "Orlando." Then zoomed out one notch to see the next pic...

Here you can see how going through Tampa/St. Pete would be out of the way if going to Miami...

However, the turnpike is not cheap, and they wouldn't be the first poor med students to go out of the way to avoid tolls.

I hope they didn't "drop off" any explosives at the Tampa airport. My friend is flying out tonight

Did anyone see the sister of one of the students on TV? She complaining about racism. Hmm I think the woman judged these people on statements like "do we have enough to bring it down?" rather than their race.

No way would I show my face if I were that woman, not only for fear of retaliation by terrorist cells, but also by Americans in case nothing is found on these guys. So many people are going to accuse this woman of fabricating the whole thing.

They said the men are now released and that they've been interrogating them since midnight. {scared face}

Good point, but I believe she provided the make of the cars. You would think they would keep an eye out even if plates didn't match it.

No, it was Thurs. morning. Ms. Stone and her son had breakfast at Shoneys somewhere between 10:30 and 11:50 a.m. So they had about 13 or 14 hours before being pulled over.

That is just speculation based on the fact that they haven't found anything concrete. You don't really think they're going to close the books on this case just because they couldn't hold the men any longer? (we can only hope) Surely they're now under surveillance.

The family had a nerve to say they are Americans. well God damn it, act like our culture. Those white towels on there head are for us AMERICANS when we get out of the shower. Maybe it is a hoax but the way they detained those guys I agree with 100%. Even if they were joking, I would call them idiots with what happened to joke about anything that has a notion of what happened on 9-11. I am Armenian, born in Lawrenence, my parents were born here but my grandparents who are now gone came here from the old country. Wasn't it Pres. Bush that said if anyone so much as joked about this stuff, they would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law? Well, how about it! I'm sure Ms. Stone heard exactly what she heard. If they've been released, then they must have been SICK clowns! Sounds like they should be prosecuted.

How sickening! They should definitely be prosecuted for what they did and flip the bill for the expense. Let's hope this sends out a message to all that Americans WILL contact authorities. I also hope it affects their getting medical degrees. As a former employee of a hospital, they definitely have questionable character! Wouldn't you like to go to a doctor that pulled a prank like this?! I don't think so. Kudos to Ms. Stone for the job she did.

Clinician is only one of the possible careers for an M.D., and really the least worrisome to me. I would be much more worried that they would become researchers involved in public health & possible biologic agents of war. I wonder how many how many aspiring terrorists are working in universitites, the CDC, FDA, NCID, Plum Island, etc.

Bingo Doc, that is what I was thinking. I would HOPE and I am relatively sure that these men will be watched for quite some time and this isn't the end of it. If they were simply joking, they will pay the price with their privacy.

I don't know what they were thinking if they were joking!! No Americans are going to sit back and listen to something like that these days without alerting authorities! We all have that militant "You won't pull this @#$@ again!" attitude. Not very smart on their part for doing that.

I just hope they don't forget about this and they keep a watchful eye over those 3.

Perhaps the woman was taking things out of context and only hearing bits of the conversation here and there. It is only her viewpoint we are hearing. Don't flame me, I'm not saying that what she did wasn't the absolute correct thing to do but I don't think we should be judging these guys quite yet. If the police are releasing them, then they obviously know a lot more than we do.
