Is there such a thing?

Here's what I'm wondering. I've been thru CNN today reading all the news articles and me being the paranoid person that I am, I'm worried about some large-scale event happening that could make us not be able to attend our trip (due to grounded planes, whatever).

Of course, Disneyworld itself would make an excellent target for terrorists, IMHO. That would be the worst thing imaginable -- especially if we were there.

See, we're travelling from November 11th -> 18th - right over the Presidential election.

Do you think I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, or is this actually worthy of discussion? What do you all think?

Is there even a company that covers "domestic terror events" and will credit you the price of your trip and flights, etc?

Tell me I'm worrying too much... :earseek:

I don't think you are worrying too much. If you were cancelling the trip because of the worry, I would think that might be a bit much, but just seeing what your options are makes perfect sense to me.

I 'd think that such a thing would be covered under normal travel insurance wouldn't it? Maybe I am wrong. I'm not sure. It wouldn't hurt to check.

Remember to vote before you go!

We have purchased travel insurance through Travel Guard.
Our policy covers a "Terrorist Incident" as defined as "An act of violence, other than civil disorder or riot, that is not an act of war, declared or undeclared, that results in loss of life or major damage to property, by any person acting on behalf of or in connection with any organization that is generally recognized as having the intent to overthrow or influence control of any government. Coverage will only be provided if the Terrorist Incident occours in a City: (a) listed on the Insured's travel itenerary or (b) in which the Insured is otherwise scheduled to arrive within thirty days of the Terrorist Incident. "City" means an incorporated municipality having defined borders and does not include the high seas, uninhabited areas or airspace."
I hope that helps. Personally, we bought the insurance in the event one of the kids comes down with chicken pox or something.
I try not to worry about the other "what if's" even though that may be hard this day in age.

My DH and I were in the MK when 9/11 happened. They shut down everything and we had to leave the park. Couldn't get home because the airplanes were all grounded. Do I think you are worrying too much? Not at all.

We were on the next cruise leaving after 9/11. DCL was great! When we called they said we could do what we wanted (cancel completely, rebook for different cruise or go on the cruise) without any penalties even if we did not have insurance.

We were in DL on 9-11 and it was an awful feeling to be there and not home and feeling so vulnerable! It is a feeling that I wouldn't want to have again but it wouldn't stop me from going on another vacation at any time. I wonder sometimes if all of this talk of a "suspected" terrosist attack at sometime isn't more on the propaganda side more than the "real" side of it! True it could happen but since 9-11 how many times have we been told that they suspected SOMETHING big might happen again??? I would get the trip insurance (but for us we'd get it for something that would happen to one of our family members more than for terrorists) as it's always a good idea to have. At least that way if they would cover it you'd have it and if they didn't you aren't out much more than you would have been if you hadn't purchased it.

Worrying is not a bad thing. I lived in W. Germany for over three years back when bombing clubs and blowing up planes seemed to the the choice of terrorists. I've always been aware of the potentials and make it a point when travelling to watch my surroundings. But there is always the inevitable and the unforseen. Don't let it ruin your vacation. By cancelling a trip because of fear of a terrorist attack you let these guys win. That's precisely what they want.

Most insurance carriers do have some clause for terrorism.

We are travelling those same dates...

My theory is that they will try to ruin the
election day itsself OR the conventions in
September... they won't do anything
AFTER the election... election day
is held on 11/2 - we'll be out of harms
way by over a week!
However, if something should happen,
I don't know if I'd go! My BF didn't
cancel his trip to Australia right after
9/11 tho! He'll still want to go!
I cannot justify the extra layout of
cash for the insurance... it does pay
IF you need it... but if something
delays our trip worth missing it for,
it will be worth it to me to lose the
money we paid!

I see someone mentioned Travel Guard. I just read an article today about Travel Guard insurance and that is does indeed cover terrorism.

I think the website is www.travelguard.com

Good luck

It is so truly unfortunate that we live in times that dictate that we worry about such things. My BIL was on an airplane on 9/11 headed to NY from FL and was forced to land in DC (I think it was Reagan Airport) when he got off the plane he had NO idea what had transpired literally minutes before, until he reached my sister by telephone. We look at this glimpse of near misses as a way to reaffirm the life that we all take for granted, WE WILL NOT let terrorist, foreign or domestic ruin what little, precious time we have on this earth. I am not saying, don't worry, because I worry every day, I am just saying don't let worry change to fear that can become all-consuming. Enjoy what is at hand. :D
