terrible sinus infection and cannot talk anything that you recommend?

A bottle of RUM!

it may not cure you, but half-way through it, you cease to care.

I got an awful sinus infection once and used a Neti-Pot. Because I didn't use sterile water and my sinuses were so plugged up some creepy little microbe lived in my sinuses for a while and gave me a really bad eye infection requiring IV antibiotics. It was a ton of fun.

Whiskey would have taken care of that!

One of the things that works for me is steaming apple cider vinegar and breathing in that steam

Try buckwheat honey. I swear that stuff is a miracle worker. It is the best cough suppressant I have ever used and it is very soothing on a soar throat. I'll admit it doesn't have the best flavor, but I put some in a mason jar with cut up lemons to help with that. Cayenne pepper and apple cider vinegar can help with the mucus and if you use Eucalyptus or peppermint essential oils in a vaporizer or a few drops in hot water and inhale the steam.

DS's nose always swells up so bad he can't breathe. His doctor recommends the generic of Afrin non-drip nasal spray. She says the non-drip is a metered dose & that why she particularly recommends it. I agree with the Mucinex. I have taken medicine that supposedly has the same ingredients as Mucinex but doesn't work nearly as well. Halls fruit breezers seem to help my throat. I've had a doctor tell me that laryngitis was due to a virus that was going around but it was just laryngitis- I didn't have much of a cold.

ETA: Only use the nasal spray a couple of days (as recommended on the box) because you can experience what the doctor calls rebound swelling. It's addictive, too.

I am getting over that too. I hate hot tea, but that was something that seemed to help me. I drank a lot of hot tea with lemon. The whiskey thing, yea I tried that. I tried mixing whiskey and honey in hot tea, and just a whiskey/honey mixture. The taste is absolutely terrible, but I think it actually does help. My face and teeth also hurt really bad. I found that hot showers and or just holding a hot wash cloth on my face helped a little bit.

If you aren't seeing/feeling improvement after 3 days in antibiotics, call your doctor. I had to have a round of steroids added to kick a sinus infection two years ago. No fun.

I get sinus infections a lot unfortunetly and had one at Christmas that inflamed the nerve in my face which killed and I am still dealing with.Besides the antibiotics my doctor always gives me Flonase nasal spray-it was a prescription but just became otc last week.It is a allergy steroid spray and it always helps when I loose my voice. He has me use it 2 times a day for the first few days then I usually go to 1 time a day for a week or 2. It is under 15 dollars at the store. The only bad thing about it is it has a rose like smell when you use it but it goes away after a little while.

Well, seeing as the OP hasn't been back, I can only hope she's doing ok and feeling better somehow.

My question about how advil was being taken was never answered, but I'll offer my $.02 anyway.

IME many people under and mis-use ibuprofen. You don't stop taking it when the pain goes away because you then lose its anti-inflammatory benefit. If you know your sinuses are infected (or you have some other type of inflammation) you continue to take it round the clock, every six or eight hours, at least. You also have to take the correct dosage, which is generally in the 600mg range for significant pain (which is usually caused by inflammation). If you keep it up, chances are pretty good your pain will be fairly well managed. Note, that may not mean completely gone, but it will be significantly lessened. Adding in some hot tea and warmth, etc., can help with the rest. No question, an uncomfortable condition to have (and yes, I've had it, too); just make sure you're taking your Advil correctly so it can do it's job most effectively.

Good luck!
