TEMPORARY Refrigerator Removal from WDW Resorts

This..so much this. While yes room rates have changed , they did not go up JUST because a refrigerator was added.

As one who worked in a hotel trust me..this is a nightmare..but first and foremost safety comes first.

Yes for medical needs - they will have a limited number to provide reasonable accomodation.
. I know people who travel frequently that have medical needs and not everyplace they stay for work has a refrigerator either so they make plans in case of an emergency.

Blaming Disney for this is pretty ridiculousI'm not saying that it's the travelers at fault either , but having some understanding would go a long way. If your trip is this dependant on that one amenity , it may time to look at alternatives , even off site.

Remember , you do have a choice , even if it's one you don't want.
I know it's not easy when you do book out months or even nearly a year in advance but heres the deal : You can't control it. Yelling at CM's , customer service or any number of people won't do a thing. This may mean some hard choices have to be made but only you can do what's best for you and your family.

It was the lack of communication on Disney's part that is ridiculous. Guests arriving in a mater of days had the right to be informed so they could make that choice. I do not believe for one minute that Disney was incapable of shooting off emails to those guests arriving very soon. I think each of us will handle the situation differently, but to start yelling at a CM over compensation for a refrigerator is also ridiculous. For me, it just took a simple phone call to explain our medical needs. Disney did the right thing by removing the refrigerators for safety reasons, but they should have taken it a step further by notifying guests prior to arrival. I would consider this common courtesy.

No up charge for TVs, sheets, or windows

The fridges were listed as an amenity when I booked
Sheets and windows weren't. Neither were doors. Based on your line of thinking, those don't need to be in any room and guests wouldn't have any recourse.

My call to Disney about our trip in two weeks to CSR. Told him that I seen online that Disney is pulling the refrigerators out of most of the resorts.

He said that is correct. I could put in room request for one so I did. No guarantee. (no problem but the request is there)

I asked how much it would be to change to a DVC and get a non affected refrigerator. He said that would be a 1 BR. I said I thought the studios were not affected. He said that those are the mini fridges too (I wanted to say but they are probably vented but I didn't). He said that his memo did not say that the studios were ok. The difference for a 1 BR at OKW was $600 more.

So not likely to change. Will bring portable cooler bag and hope. Don't really want to keep my drinks/snacks on ice during our trip. I had enough of that when we had no power for a week after Sandy.

So just so it's clear - Bernie gave you all the information the chat CMs have available to offer, but wouldn't put anything in writing that isn't official but might obligate Disney down the road and wouldn't give you the answer you want?

No, I wasn't looking for the answer I want. I was looking for ANY answer.

You actually think he gave me info? Where?????? I wasn't asking for anything in writing. I wasn't asking for an obligation. I was simply asking for information! And it's obvious from all the conflicting stories on this thread that no one has a single clue what's going on. In my opinion, that's unacceptable. Disney took a month after the fire to even begin this process. They should have thought it through and been able to give reasonable explanations as to what the process would entail.

Instead, so far I've heard....

Every refrigerator is being pulled.
Only certain models are being pulled.
They're being pulled from all rooms.
They're being pulled from unoccupied rooms only.
Some rooms will be without refrigerators.
No one will be without; they'll simply switch them.
It will be done within a few weeks.
It will take at least four months.
If you have medical issues, you definitely will have one.
If you have medical issues, you'll be put at the top of the list.
Even if you have medical issues, it's first come, first served.
If you ask and don't get one, you'll get $15 per night.
There will be no compensation at all.
There's no notice until you're in your room.
Some people are getting notified ahead of time.

All makes perfect sense to me....:rolleyes1

Online chats are useless in situations like this. Trust the TA site information. If you request a fridge and don't get one, you will get a $15 per night credit, which is honestly way more than I would ever expect. Disney takes care of their guests. Request a fridge and wait. There is honestly nothing else you can do beyond that.

Oh yes I can see it now....The Great Cooler Swap :rotfl2:
Remember the days of fridge swaps? Only Disney can make a switch out of ALL the resorts at the same time.:rolleyes1

I emailed the YC IPO. I just simply said I heard they were pulling the refrigerators from the rooms. IPO said they were pulling certain models and that they would be replacing CL rooms first and that I should be fine. We will be there in a little under 2 weeks. So who knows. It won't ruin my vacation but it would be nice to have Disney notify people prior to their trip.

Yup. We'd be screwed

Anyhow, we will all survive

Somehow

No, he gave you all the information they have available to share with guests "Bernie: The resorts are working to address the issue but beyond total replacements will take a couple of months we have not received further information"

You were participating in an online chat. You have, and shared, a copy of tge transcript of your conversation with the CM. That's something tangible people would use to support a claim that Disney is doing X/Y/Z (to compensate for the potential lack of a refrigerator).

It's entirely possible - even likely - they were waiting for the Fire Marshall's report to determine the exact cause of the fire and as soon as they realized the refrigerators could be a fire hazard they took immediate action.

I just emailed my TA. Ask her about the refrigerators. She is hoping they will be back by our December trip. But if not 2 out of the 3 rooms we have need refrigerators for medical reasons. She added that our reservations today so we are all set. See how easy that was. I LOVE MY TA!!! SHE IS THE BEST!!!

Obviously Disney, like most people, don't consider the loss of a fridge the same as the loss of AC, since they wouldn't put someone in a room where the AC didn't work.

Yeah, I could go buy a fan, in fact, I had to last year when we rented a condo and the AC went out for a couple of days. Not a big deal, we all survived, just as all of you will survive without a fridge, if none are available.

I'd be shocked to learn that anyone ever died carrying a bucket of ice back to their room, but I guess it's possible.

I think you are missing the point. What I'm trying to figure out is whether you are doing it on purpose or not.

When something that a hotel lists as an amenity in a room is not available or is not working they offer some type of compensation. At least the hotels I have stayed in do. If they do offer the rumoured $15 great, it will help with the collapsible cooler we have to add to our checked luggage.

I can't believe grown ups are acting like this. It a refrigerator. Deal with it. Would you rather have a fire in a room and kill someone. If you can afford to go to DISNEY at any level of the resort you stay at I think you can afford a cooler and walk the couple of feet to get ice. What do you DISNEY owes you anything. You cancel your reservations I'm sure DISNEY they can fill it.

You are missing the point.

No complaining allowed here
If you complain it means you are against fire safety and Limited Time Magic

Your happiness is not important. You are lucky the rooms have running water

Doors on the room are next on the list. Maybe toilet paper. That could catch on fire. They should remove it
