This..so much this. While yes room rates have changed , they did not go up JUST because a refrigerator was added.
As one who worked in a hotel trust me..this is a nightmare..but first and foremost safety comes first.
Yes for medical needs - they will have a limited number to provide reasonable accomodation.
. I know people who travel frequently that have medical needs and not everyplace they stay for work has a refrigerator either so they make plans in case of an emergency.
Blaming Disney for this is pretty ridiculousI'm not saying that it's the travelers at fault either , but having some understanding would go a long way. If your trip is this dependant on that one amenity , it may time to look at alternatives , even off site.
Remember , you do have a choice , even if it's one you don't want.
I know it's not easy when you do book out months or even nearly a year in advance but heres the deal : You can't control it. Yelling at CM's , customer service or any number of people won't do a thing. This may mean some hard choices have to be made but only you can do what's best for you and your family.
Sheets and windows weren't. Neither were doors. Based on your line of thinking, those don't need to be in any room and guests wouldn't have any recourse. No up charge for TVs, sheets, or windows
The fridges were listed as an amenity when I booked
So just so it's clear - Bernie gave you all the information the chat CMs have available to offer, but wouldn't put anything in writing that isn't official but might obligate Disney down the road and wouldn't give you the answer you want?
Is that in writing somewhere? I would like to print and take with me.
No, I wasn't looking for the answer I want. I was looking for ANY answer.
You actually think he gave me info? Where?????? I wasn't asking for anything in writing. I wasn't asking for an obligation. I was simply asking for information! And it's obvious from all the conflicting stories on this thread that no one has a single clue what's going on. In my opinion, that's unacceptable. Disney took a month after the fire to even begin this process. They should have thought it through and been able to give reasonable explanations as to what the process would entail.
Instead, so far I've heard....
Every refrigerator is being pulled.
Only certain models are being pulled.
They're being pulled from all rooms.
They're being pulled from unoccupied rooms only.
Some rooms will be without refrigerators.
No one will be without; they'll simply switch them.
It will be done within a few weeks.
It will take at least four months.
If you have medical issues, you definitely will have one.
If you have medical issues, you'll be put at the top of the list.
Even if you have medical issues, it's first come, first served.
If you ask and don't get one, you'll get $15 per night.
There will be no compensation at all.
There's no notice until you're in your room.
Some people are getting notified ahead of time.
All makes perfect sense to me....![]()

For something that I can easily replace with an $8 cooler and some ice? No, I wouldn't mind at all.
No, he gave you all the information they have available to share with guests "Bernie: The resorts are working to address the issue but beyond total replacements will take a couple of months we have not received further information"Mom2AidenandEli said:You actually think he gave me info? Where??????
You were participating in an online chat. You have, and shared, a copy of tge transcript of your conversation with the CM. That's something tangible people would use to support a claim that Disney is doing X/Y/Z (to compensate for the potential lack of a refrigerator).Mom2AidenandEli said:? I wasn't asking for anything in writing. . I wasn't asking for an obligation.
It's entirely possible - even likely - they were waiting for the Fire Marshall's report to determine the exact cause of the fire and as soon as they realized the refrigerators could be a fire hazard they took immediate action.Mom2AidenandEli said:Disney took a month after the fire to even begin this process.
Obviously Disney, like most people, don't consider the loss of a fridge the same as the loss of AC, since they wouldn't put someone in a room where the AC didn't work.
Yeah, I could go buy a fan, in fact, I had to last year when we rented a condo and the AC went out for a couple of days. Not a big deal, we all survived, just as all of you will survive without a fridge, if none are available.
I'd be shocked to learn that anyone ever died carrying a bucket of ice back to their room, but I guess it's possible.
A fire in your room would be a bit more inconvenient.
It's Disney, I'm sure they will do everything they can to minimize the inconvenience.
You are missing the point.
No complaining allowed here
If you complain it means you are against fire safety and Limited Time Magic
Your happiness is not important. You are lucky the rooms have running water
I can't believe grown ups are acting like this. It a refrigerator. Deal with it. Would you rather have a fire in a room and kill someone. If you can afford to go to DISNEY at any level of the resort you stay at I think you can afford a cooler and walk the couple of feet to get ice. What do you DISNEY owes you anything. You cancel your reservations I'm sure DISNEY they can fill it.
