TEMPORARY Refrigerator Removal from WDW Resorts

I can't believe people complaining about this. Would you like to have fire in your room. I would think that is what the problem with them is. If you remember a couple of years ago rooms did not have refrigerators in them.

Just did some fuzzy math

Let's say 10% of the rooms are affected per week
3000 rooms out of 30000 (guessing here)
Each of the rooms is used by guests for the whole week (7 days)
4 weeks per month
4 months to swap
$15 per room per day

$5 million in comp? I think the problem will be smaller than that
5% of the rooms at a time?

Well if you paid for a water view room and got a standard room view at check-in would'nt you be entitled to a refund of the difference? I hope there is a freg vs. the $15 a night credit, but if there is not, the credit will suffice. I will come out better money wise with the freg but I will accept it and go on.:thumbsup2

Rooms were a lot cheaper a couple of years ago

I agree that it isn't a big deal, and I'm not mad or upset about it, but I am annoyed that I sent three emails to the Polynesian yesterday (two to IPO and one to management) just trying to verify if I need to bring a cooler or not (we are flying and taking ME, so no car to drive to a store) and nobody is answering my emails. They could at least write back and tell me they don't know for sure, or that they will get back with me soon, or something???? July trips to WDW are hot and we need cold water!

I have meds that need refrigeration but the way I am looking at it I have survived hurricanes and Nor'Easters that have caused me to be without power for 6+ days so Being in Disney without a fridge should be a lot easier.

For the Breakfast issue pack a few boxes of cereal and buy milk actually for a $15 credit per night that should cover cereal & milk each day

One of my children has to take an over the counter medicine every morning in chocolate milk. So the freg is important for that and the drinks, snacks and other things we will use. I think that they might have them at the Yacht Club in 5 weeks surely? May not though. As long as they make it right, I'm good.

i foresee the fridge swaps starting up again..

I never cared for the fridges in the rooms. They didn't even keep my water at a cold temp..just "cool".

I was at AKL last month for a week and threw a water bottle in there and it barely was cold enough to make condensation on the bottle

It's a perk.. I remember having my "liquid gold" in ice before Deluxes had them years ago

They probably received a lot of emails yesterday. I can see how they wouldn't have gotten back to you yet, and if everyone sent 3 emails, that just makes it take more time to respond.

It is on the Disney Travel Agent, that guests will be credited $15/night to enable them to make cold item purchases, if a refrigerator is requested but not available.

Is there a link to the above info, or a direct quote that we can use to ask for a credit?

My guess is that it will be an onsite request. If you get there and don't have one working in the room they give you, they will issue the credit. They are not going to credit you now when you could arrive and have a perfectly good fridge in the room.

I believe Disney did not do this to mess up your vacation! It is for safety!!! Like the OP said, the news just broke 24 hours ago... give them time to figure it out! Take a deep breath.... if not having a fridge will ruin your vacation then maybe you should not go! I am sure they will give you a refund! A vacation is what YOU make it! you are going to Disney!!! I am sure MY insulin will be fine without a fridge...and do not get me going on the "compensated' crap!! :stir:

Don't mean to be "snarky" ( a word i learned from DIS) :)

But... I really wonder about those freaking out here, complaining etc. Have you ever travelled any where else where hotels/motels dont have refridgerators??? I dont recall a fridge being a standard, unless you are thinking wet bar at better chains.

I understand being annoyed as Disney does list them now as an ammenity; or for medical.

IMO if you need to travel and be able to store your own food to make meals, etc. Maybe a hotel vacation is not for you?? Especially if there is onsite dining options Maybe a condo is a better option??? Hotel rooms are meant for sleeping, showering, not cooking. Especially for those having groceries delivered. The more I think about it, it wouldn't want strangers eating sandwiches on my bed at home, but in a hotel room it's ok?

Of course I have stayed in a hotel that does not have a refrigerator - 15 years ago. We go on vacation frequently and the hotel always has a refrigerator. We have stayed a dozens of different brands of hotel.

When you plan a vacation you look at all the facts and determine if it is feasible for your family. POR Was listed as having a refrigerator so the vacation was doable and we booked the room last September on a bounce back offer. Now if it does not have a refrigerator I don't know if we can go in all honesty. My son has autism and mostly refuses to eat so having his almond milk is essential. Coolers are not refrigerators either.

As well, don't you use the table in your room?

I have heard that POR should be done by July 31.
