TEMPORARY Refrigerator Removal from WDW Resorts

I think the information released and the way it was is leaving Disney to scramble to make it better for the guests. They need to have a solution in place to accommodate guests--the Disney way. Don't leave people hanging. Provide a solution. Make it right for guests. We are staying AKL CL end of July. Concierge has been great. They say not all refrigerators affected. Also said will work to accommodate our needs. Good service. Keep the magic alive!

IPO at WL said the same. Certain models of the refrigerators are affected. They are checking them room by room and if the fridge in your room is affected it will be unplugged and a note left. It is basically a recall and all the refrigerators will be replaced. The model numbers not affected will be left plugged in and will be the last to be replaced.

After seeing the notification about the refrigerators on DIS I called Disney. The customer service rep checked with her supervisor and they had not heard of that notification. HOWEVER, before hanging up with me, she noticed a notification about them being removed. I am disappointed about this. We look forward to having our cold water bottles in the fridge in the room when we get back and we had planned on having a small milk and half and half for our coffee in the morning. I hope they make it up to the guests somehow because this IS a bit of an inconvenience. I really did not want to pack a cooler of ANY sort with me on the plane. Was hoping for that freezer for my ice pack for me knee at the end of the day too. Grrr....

Disney has stated that they will be giving guests who request a refrigerator a $15 credit per night if they do not have a working refrigerator for them when they arrive.

When we were there the week of Memorial day, my parents had to call housekeeping because their frig wouldn't stay cold. We made sure that there was no dust on the back of the frig but it was replaced and it worked fine for the week. When we first got to our room, my DH checked out the back of the frig we had and the coils were covered with dust. After cleaning the back of the frig off ours worked fine but we left the door to the cabinet open the whole time so they could get "air circulation" that was needed.

Why they would not think to keep the back of the cabinets open for the frig to be able to "breathe" is beyond me.:confused3

I had just made my final payment yesterday for CBR in September when I saw this thread today. After contacting my AAA travel agent, she called Disney and provided this information to me:

"Some of the rooms in the hotels have a refrigerator model that has been recalled by the company. Disney is currently in the process of tagging the rooms with those models. Over the next few weeks they will be removing and replacing those models with new ones. If you need a refrigerator, have a note made on your reservation just in case they are not finished by then."

I'll be keeping an eye on the situation since we are flying, no rental car, and have placed a large order with Garden Grocer. Worst case, we pack a soft sided cooler and DH makes trips to the ice machine.

Not a deal breaker - I've waited over 10 years to get back to WDW!

My dh just got off the phone with Disney. She said they're removing the fridges from the unoccupied rooms and replacing them and then as current guests check out, they're replacing those as well. We're staying at the Poly and she said they plan to have the Poly completed within a week.

Take that for what it's worth, but it doesn't sound like a mass removal, but rather a bunch at a time as the occupancy arises. I'm sure some rooms may still be fridge-less when you check in, but it may not be as huge a deal as we all think.

All is well

All is well. Fridge-gate will pass

Well if you paid for a water view room and got a standard room view at check-in would'nt you be entitled to a refund of the difference? I hope there is a freg vs. the $15 a night credit, but if there is not, the credit will suffice. I will come out better money wise with the freg but I will accept it and go on.:thumbsup2

What is a "freg", or do you mean fridge?

Just sent the 'request a fridge for me' email to our TA. We've never been in a WDW room that had a fridge and were really excited about getting one this time around. Driving, so bringing extra coolers is not an issue, but it's an enormous pain to have to drain the water out of them every night...

I guess I don't understand why so many people are quick to say, "oh, well, no big deal. Guess we'll have to pack a cooler and get ice every day. No biggie." AND they're putting down people who are upset by the lack of a refrigerator!

I'm sorry, but I find this totally unacceptable on Disney's part! I paid a lot of money for a room with a fridge. They were happy to take my money for it and now they're not giving me what I paid for. That's WRONG!!!! On top of that, they're not even letting people know until they're already checked in? What kind of customer service is that??? This is just beyond ridiculous. Would you accept this kind of treatment from anyone other than Disney?

So the fridge isn't a big deal? I also paid for a room with a TV, running water, two beds, pillows, towels, toiletries, chairs, places to hang my clothes, sinks, etc. Would you be just as happy if they took any of that away. Ooops, our pillows might be a hazard to little ones. Sorry, you can't have them. But we're sure you'll figure out a way to make do. Roll up your dirty clothes and sleep on them! I know you wanted running water in your room, but we're having issues with the plumbing. There's a nice well and pump right across the courtyard with buckets provided for your convenience.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm sorry but I actually expect what I pay for. If they can leave the fridges in the rooms that are occupied, why can't they leave them until the exact day they're switching in the new ones? Why can't they notify everyone ahead of time? Why can't they make some offer to make up for the inconvenience? Anything????/

Okay, done venting now.... Just hoping I have a fridge at the end of August!

I completely agree. I know when I book my resort-I expect certain amenities to be provided because they are included at time of booking. And the cost of those amenities is in the room rate. So, if they remove something or don't provide it, then the room rate should be adjusted. Yes, I want a fridge in my room. I paid for it, I want it. I don't use the shampoo you provide, but i want it-I PAID FOR IT !

Thank you for contacting Disney. Please hold while we route your chat to a Disney Cast Member who will help you with your question.

Welcome to Disney! My name is Chuck. How may I help you today?

Chuck: Welcome to Live Chat! I am here to answer any questions you might have about the resorts, theme park tickets or our dining plans. Although I’m not tied to a reservation system for pricing or availability, I can help you plan your vacation from start to finish!

you: Are there refrigerators in the POFQ rooms? I was told they are removing them. I NEED a refrigerator and I stayed in Feb. and July and there was a fridge.

Chuck: Hi There! I'd be happy to point you in the right direction! There are refrigerators in them right now. Let me look to see if they are removing them in the advisories.

Chuck: There is a certain model that is being replaced for different rooms for each resort. You can still request one if the room is one of the rooms that had one removed.

Chuck: They have not listed the Disney's Port Orleans Resort-French Quarter as one of the resorts as of yet.

so..this sounds like it may be a batch that was ordered and has been recalled. Since AoA is new and none in DVC..I am thinking they got a bad batch and due to some swaps, probably have a good idea where the majority are. Since CSR had them all removed, maybe it was the time of their last room renovation??

I would still rather have a safe room instead of a fridge ...but that is coming from the wife of a :firefight

So here's my live chat:

Me: I've heard a lot about refrigerators being pulled from guest rooms and replaced. I'm staying at Port Orleans French Quarter in August and wondering if I will have a fridge in the room.

Bernie: I'll be happy to point you in the right direction.

Bernie: You may or may not. The refrigerators are being pulled immediately but it will take a couple of months for the replacements to be put in place.

Me: So when do I find out if I will or will not?

Bernie: Further details are not available. This is a developing situation.

Me: So no info at all? Will I know before I arrive? And if one's not available, are there any other arrangements being made? When I booked the room, it did include a refrigerator.

Bernie: The resorts are working to address the issue but beyond total replacements will take a couple of months we have not received further information.

Me: Will there be any compensation if I don't have a fridge in my room as promised?

Bernie: I would hope further information will be available closer to your travel dates.

Yeah, that was helpful......:lmao:
