Tell me your thoughts about "The Secret"

I have decided to buy a planner- similar to Jody's idea. But I also need a notebook to go with it... I'll have to look around at the office store tomorrow. But, it is going to be my spiritual guide/weightloss planner. I am going to schedule exercise like I would an appt. I want to put motivating quotes (spiritual and otherwise) in it. Track my progress.

(OT- This Universal halloween banner is scary and awful).

But, I feel like it will give me sort of a touchpoint. I am also going to write down some affirmations so I can go to this place when I need some picking up or some motivation.

I also am going to keep a list of healthy choices from various fast-food places and their calorie counts so that I can always be prepared.

The notebook part will be for gratitude, journaling, etc. Writing down my food/exercise each day.

WTG!! I need to get myself organized as well. I'm using a hard cover book from "the secret" got it at walmart. So, when that runs out I'll get something different:) Anxious to see how you get it all sorted out:)

1) I love my Spirit Guide. I flip thru it often. It is amazing to see the themes and patterns in my life that have popped up. I missed so much before!

2) I'm currently reading Wayne Dyer's Power of Intention. Since so many of us are talking finance/money issues, I had to share.

When you send out messages saying "I need more money" or such, the field of intention responds by sending you more of the "state of needing more money." The Universe doesn't understand scarcity so it gives you more of them same. It is better to say "I have enough money, and I allow what I already have enough of to flow to me." Get rid of the idea of shortages. In the Universe, there is no such thing.

3) Now a wonderful story. Almost every Friday morning, our director brings donuts to the front patio and invites us to bring our coffee and share some of our morning with each other. Well, while we were having our coffee & donuts, one of the young men from Accounting joined us. He is leaving next week. I asked him where he is going. He is going to Madrid for 12 months to teach English. He went to Madrid a few years ago on a college program and had been looking for opportunities to go back for an extended period.

Since I have also been to Spain, we swapped stories. He admitted that he was very nervous. He didn't have an apartment yet and there were still some loose ends. I told him that everything would pan out. I told him, "Everything has fallen into place up to this point. It will continue to do so." I reminded him that he had been to Spain before, that he was familiar with the people, the language, the culture. He agreed and smiled. He knew all that. He just needed to hear it from someone impartial, someone he didn't really know. He and I had only greeted each other in passing. Today, the Universe brought us together so I could share my own experience and reassure him that he was on the right path.

Previously, I would have just dismissed this type of interaction as mere coincidence or chance. Now I know that our paths were meant to cross today. He probably has been having last minute jitters, wondering if he was doing the right thing. Then I showed up and told him what he needed to hear. Not only was I an inspiration to him. He was an inspiration to me. My belief that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear is even stronger from this incident. I appeared for him to reassure him of his right path. He appeared for me as confirmation of my beliefs.

I love this life!!!

:woohoo:

So, I'm heading out to the mail and as I'm heading out I said thank you for the mail that I'm given and for the checks that I receive...
I get to the mail and I get 2 gift certificates from Wilton for surveys that I took last winter. I had totally forgotten about them! Plus when I took the surveys they were supposed to pay $20 for the survey and they increased it to $30!

Another bonus was a coupon I got from cascade for $1.50 off...I ran out today and put it as a mental note to go purchase it later:)

Great mail day!

Here is an excerpt from the beginning of Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way, in which she explains about the Morning Pages and the Artist's Date.

http://www.theartistsway.com/pdfs/basictools.pdf

Everyone, don't get hung up on thinking these tools are just for "artists." Remember cut & piece the tools that work for you. :thumbsup2 For Julia, we are all artists in the sense we are creating & expressing our lives. She calls God/the Universe: The Creator instead. That The Creator is naturally creative. He created us, and naturally we carry the essence & need to create in our souls too. It is self expression. Whether it is a beautifully decorated cake, :cake: a great dinner, an itinerary for a vacation that fits together, an business report or an outfit that expresses our mood. Even problem solving is an act of creation.

The Morning pages are a tool for contacting your self, clarifying issues, putting down nagging doubts, coming up with ideas, venting, writing out dreams...

I've been doing morning pages since 1996. Sometimes I vent, sometimes I make lists, lots of lists, sometimes I write stories, doodle, once I wrote a fairy tale, princess: a few poems, I come up with my ideas for my pottery & jewelry-making. Other times, it's therapy for me, as I come up with my own solutions. I've found I am my biggest cheerleader in my morning pages. :cheer2: That sometimes I always knew the way, but didn't trust myself - yet it showed up on the pages, when I read them much later. I am my biggest nurturer and defender, when I vent an injustice. :hug: My heart knows the way to heal itself.

The Artist's Date, can be called a Date with Self. It's about recharging, or as Julia calls it, "Restocking the pond" after it gets fished out. We need time alone, simply to replenish, find our own rhythm again, and hear our selves.

It doesn't have to be long. Forty minutes is fine. It doesn't have to be expensive But it always has to be alone. Sitting alone, in a coffee shop, watching people, you can come up with anything to recharge yourself. Scribble a story for fun at each visit, on napkins, about a boy who goes to a magical school and learns he's a wizard... :wizard:

You go window shopping and you realize the living room depresses you because the color needs changing. You just saw lovely blue curtains on clearance that remind you of the ones at the Disney resort, and they would make you & the family feel cheerful every time everyone walked into the living room and saw them. :idea:

Imzadi, I finally did it this morning. I was updating my Internet favorites list and stumbled upon the link you posted. I saved it, promising myself to get back to it. And I never did. :sad2:

Well, I found the link yesterday and wrote a note to myself in my Spirit Guide to commit to doing this every morning. I got one of the 5 cent 70 page spiral notebooks that I bought during the Back to School sales out and marked it as my morning pages journal. Today I did it.

I committed to the three pages recommended in the link. It was hard at first. I wrote some gibberish. Then I wrote about one of my DD being sick (again!) and came up with some ideas to help her thru it. She is only 5 years old, but has this "woe is me!" attitude which has to be contributing to her physical health. Her twin has a "can do" attitude and is rarely sick. When she does get sick, it is very brief. My less than positive DD gets sick on a regular basis and not just the sniffles. She gets the full blown head cold, chest cold, aches and pains for weeks at a time. Her attitude has to be contributing to this. It is the only explanation. Anyway...

I also wrote about things I want to get done over the weekend like cleaning out the closets and such.

I'll admit that I did this in the bathroom this morning so I could have privacy. ;) I like the idea of going somewhere like a coffee shop and writing the pages while in the midst of activity going on around you. I'll plan on getting up early a couple days a week and stopping by one of the coffee shops near my work for 30 minutes so I can get different inspirations.

One of the themes I get from Dyer, Chopra, Ban Breathnach, and WTBDWK is creating. Creating your day. Living a life of creativity. This exercize gives me the opportunity to create without being a "artist." We are all artists in some way or another. The act of living positively is an art. I think I am actually getting that now. :cheer2:

Thank you, Imzadi!!!!!

Good Sunday Morning!! :cool1:

ITony Robbins often says that the difference between the people who are Excellent vs. the people who are Outstanding is often by a few inches or milliseconds.

In life, sometimes, that's all it takes, a half-stroke more. :woohoo: party:
Very True! My Mom has always said something very similar of that to us!! :goodvibes

Everyone have a GREAT day!! :wizard:

Yay! :cool1: You got the concept of the Morning pages. :woohoo: The gibberish at first was the "brain drain" part. Other times it may show up as complaints and venting. But when you hang in there and get past it, you hit pay dirt!

On one level, it becomes easier, as it becomes a habit. Yet, some days, it can be really hard for anything to come out. Those are usually the days when there a big problem/situation needing to be handled and you don't want to face it. Those are the days the Morning Pages need to be written the most. :eek: The solutions are usually on the other side of that resistance & inertia.

Yes, life is all about creating. Every moment is a chance to create or to tear down a situation. I do a lot of freelance work. Some projects, some days, the chaos or disorganization is out of control. If I behave badly, being snipey & critical, later on, I'm usually saying to myself, "Oh well, I guess I won't be asked back for another project." :rolleyes: That's because I didn't keep putting in energy to keep creating the situation in a positive way.

I'm working a project the whole next week, long 12 hour days & I come home exhausted & the work situation is horrible. I'm trying everything just to stay steady. If I quit because the work situation is so terrible, I lose out on a lot of money, in which I won't have to work for another week or so. And I will have created a bad situation between me and my agent who usually gets me job offers. That is destroying my future rather than helping to create it.

Imzadi- thanks for the affirmations. I am working really hard on releasing my tension, anxiety, and worry. This thread always has something for me, that makes me feel better, inspired, and grateful.

Jody- I'm still on the hunt for my planner, but I am so glad you had that idea so I could make my own version! I can't wait to put it all together when I find what I'm looking for.

I'm going to start doing the morning pages, too. I just downloaded the "Basic Tools" pdf from the Artist's Way website. Very helpful!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just can't believe what a roller coaster this has been- in such a GOOD way! I really feel like I'm getting my life on track and creating my future, instead of letting it just happen. Instead of freaking out, I am learning to trust that God and the Universe will support me, no matter what my situation.
I am also learning to let go of my thoughts of lack and scarcity. They are really doing nothing for me!! :rotfl:
Imzadi, That is such a neat video. Thanks for posting it. This thread is so uplifting. I look forward to it everyday. I really enjoy reading your posts.
I think we're only going to keep our home listed for another month or so. Might not even keep it listed that long. I know whatever is meant to be will be. I'm grateful for what is now. :goodvibes
Hello, my friends!! I hope you are all having a wonderful Labor Day! I received some wonderful messages from the Universe yesterday and just had to share.
In an earlier post, I stated that I finally followed Imzadi's advice about Morning Pages. Here is an excerpt from that post:
Thank you, Imzadi!!!!!
Well, I went to services that the Columbus Center for Spiritual Learning. Reverend Molly's message was about CREATIVITY!!!! Almost every word of her message was confirming exactly what I was on the verge of understanding. It was so amazed!!
She also said something else in her sermon which spoke directly to me, but that is another subject and one I will share with you all later.
Anyway, this morning when I wrote my pages. Much of it was about creativity. I'd like to share some of the words that came through me in today's morning pages:
I just spoke of creativity yesterday on the Secret board. About how the masters all talk about creativity. Creativity is discussed frequently in WTBDWK?. These morning pages harness and show us our creativity. Every time I put together my thought of the day I am creating. Every time i answer an email or a phone call, I am creating. Every time I have a fantasy in my mind or am envisioning a scenario, I am creating. Every time I put an outfit together for me or my children, I am creating. Every time I put together a menu or make a meal, I am creating. Every time I organize a shelf, a closet, my desk, I am creating. Every time I read a book, I am creating. In every present moment, I am creating that moment and the next moment that follows with my thoughts, actions, or reactions. Every time I am responding to some action going on around me, I am creating. Am I creating a postive action or a negative one? When I receive a bill, do I create a positive reaction by being thankful for the clothes, food, gas, electric, water, home that I have? Do I thank the workers that made the item possible? Am I grateful for my job which gives me the means to pay this bill? do I remind myself that I have plenty of money and will gladly give money to keep the Law of Circulation moving? Or do I cringe at the bill and shove it in the drawer until I have to deal with it? How do I create the next moment?
Imzadi, this is an amazing exercize!! I knew that I was starting to get this message in my mind, but by doing the Morning Pages, I pull these thoughts to the surface where they appear on paper as coherent, meaningful thoughts that are absolutely clear.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Hi! Just posting to say how grateful I am for the wonderful weather we are having in NH right now! My kids had a great first day of school, they really enjoyed it. My salon is very busy and I'm so grateful for it. I have friends in another town that all got together to make a salon and she said they aren't faring too well:( I hope they start doing better soon!
I also need to start working on the cake for the Humane Society!! She decided a sheet cake would work better, so I think I will do a Frozen Buttercream Transfer of a dog & cat on top and around the border put paw prints.
Anyhow that is what is going on with me, I hope you all have a glorious day!
We better see pictures when the cake is done! :cake:
I want to see cake pictures too! Sounds very very cute!!
BTW I'm a hairdresser too! I worked in a Salon for many years but a little over a year ago started a job in the financial field. I still do hair out of our home for friends and family. It's great your salon is busy!! :goodvibes
Very cool! I'm hoping to actually continue my education and go to Esthetic School. Class starts November 4 and the only thing I'm thinking heavily over is the amount of $$ it costs (its twice as much as my cosmetology education and a lot less hours...trying to justify the cost), I really need some help to decide what I should do. The area that I'm in (ski area and very touristy) would bring in a lot of people for facials, pedicures, manicures, body waxing and this is stuff that I don't do:( Class is two days a week, I can handle that..I love the school, I took a makeup class there....I've got about a month before I decide what I'm going to do..
Are there many places to get work to do the facials, pedicures, manicures, body waxing and stuff? Or is the market flooded with people already because of your area?
If, inside, you really have no preference either way, and there is a definite market for it, go for where the bigger money is, probably the facials, pedicures, manicures, body waxing. Ultimately, you can work less hours or days and free up your life for family & other things. :cool1: If you plan to start the Morning Pages, this would be where your musings & indecision about this would show up. The Morning Pages help crystallize your thought & feelings into more concrete & specific form. The very act of writing forces thoughts to become succinct. The act of doing it freehand engages your body and brings your thoughts to the physical realm.
I used the Law of Attraction to work the project I'm on this week. These next few weeks are BIG money making weeks here in NYC. I was offered many different jobs for the same event, but all of them were less hours & money. I just knew, that if I waited & put it out there, that the job I wanted would come along. It got so close to the event, that I thought I screwed myself. But, literally, on the day before the event, I got the phone call for the exact job & hours I wanted! :yay: I'm making more money than all my other fellow colleagues in the same type of job, for the same days & event. I don't have to work for another 2 weeks after, if I don't want to.
Yesterday, when my manager on this project found out I have college degrees, certifications, licensing, etc., he was in shock & asked, "What the hell are you doing here? You can work anywhere?" :eek: :confused3 Then he realised, "Ah, you don't give a **** about slaving away in corporate America. You're just doing this (brainless job) for the money."
YES, and the money and two weeks off I can have the next two weeks allows me to concentrate on my real business. Something I DO very much, want to do. And while this project is very taxing, hour-wise, I do like it. It IS brainless. I used to use my brain for less money at other careers and then come home mentally & emotionally depleted. :sick:
It's all about perception. It is about making a woman feel special, unique, different. She wears jewelry to feel fabulous and will spend a couple hundred dollars on it to have that feeling, but will think over about spending $4O on something more practical - especially in today's economy.
I would think it would the same for facials, pedicures, manicures, body waxing. Everyone needs to get a haircut. But pedicures, manicures, and especially facials, are a luxury service and you can charge big bucks for it if you get a reputation for being good and are in demand. :cool1:
Yes, we have one spa that is located where the local ski area is, but when people want to get away from that area (very congested there) and they come to our little town and love walking up and down the streets. You wouldn't believe how many people ask for pedicures and such....I would love to work less hours (and of course..make more money).
I need more info on the morning pages...can you point me in the right direction?
The jewelry designing is new for me, and i'm just learning, but I realized it would bring in so much more money than pottery. I, and other vendors would be at the same craft fairs as the jewelry booths. we might see minimal to moderate business, while women always flocked around the jewelry booth and plunk down a LOT of big bucks for a small item. Meanwhile, they had to think it over three times whether they wanted to spend $40 on a beautiful, big serving bowl of mine.
This is understandable as well, this is like me and the cakes:)
Just scroll back a page and read a few of the posts posts starting from post #444. It explains the Morning Pages and what happened when JodyLyn started doing them.
This is understandable as well, this is like me and the cakes:)
I'm curious, Brenda, why are you studying cosmetology instead of trying to take your cake decorating full-time? If you live in a high priced, touristy area, you could really advertise your specialty cakes in such a way, make deals with the neighboring town's hotels & resorts to get the special orders, small cakes people want delivered to hotel rooms on guest arrivals or celebratory events where a specially decorated cake is wanted, and really establish yourself as the Collette Peters in your area. Since you'd be specializing in luxury cakes, and targeting the expensive, touristy clientele, you could charge whatever you wanted for them!
Remember, it's all about perception. people pay what they perceive is VALUE. I learned that by watching the jewelry booths. People will pay hundreds of dollars more for findings that are made of sterling silver, and wear it only a few times, now & then, than pay for a cheaper, more affordable catch. They will also spend more for that item, than for something practical they can use everyday.
You don't even have to do the large, 5 tier cakes she does. You can be the queen of small, specialty orders. A local, high priced bakery near me creates the most exquisite petite 4" cakes that are fully decorated miniature versions of large cakes. They sell like hotcakes every day. (Excuse the pun.)
We have three very famous bakeries here in NYC. One is The Cupcake Cafe. They make the most fabulous butter cream flowers cupcakes and their wedding cakes sell for $500 - $2000 & up. The cake inside is actually the most blandest cake I've ever eaten. :p The cupcakes are always stale. Probably because they sit out too long while waiting to be decorated - and they still charge $4 a cupcake and people buy them.
Magnolia Bakery is also famous for their cupcakes. People line the street to get in to buy them.
One of my all time favorite pies is from The Little Pie Company. It is a sour cream, apple, walnut pie that is out of this world. They make a 6" version & a full size pie. They have a reservation list on Thanksgiving & Christmas in which you have to pre-order a pie. The list usually closes down by Sept because the pies are so popular. :cool1:
Oprah listed their key lime pie on one of her Favorite Things episode for Christmas presents and the bakery now has since expanded to three or more outlets in the city. They make maybe a variety of nine items? :scratchin So it's not like they are a do-it-all kind of bakery. But the few things they make are out of this world.
Then there's Junior's Cheesecakes. They only make cheesecakes - famous NY cheesecakes. And this place is famous.
Here is a cupcake thread from a while back:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1721365
You can Google any of these places.
Our own Feralpeg does specialty Disney gift baskets and she is doing quite well, delivering to the hotels. :)
What are your limiting beliefs that is stopping you from investing in your cake dream, and sinking money in cosmology school instead? :scratchin
because I Love doing hair too:) I really enjoy talking to people everyday, meeting new people everyday and making them feel better about themselves...my cake stuff relaxes me when I'm stressed (except of course when my dog eats the cake!). I thoroughly enjoy doing both and don't want to just one or the other...If I gave up hair and such, I'd miss my clients:( Most of the reasoning for doing the esthetic stuff is that I don't like turning people away from things that I don't offer and I do that a lot.
But I'd love to work less hours, make more money and still see my clients, most of whom I consider friends. I'm an avid learner, I love learning new things.
Ok, so I'm heading back a few pages right now!
